SA Quality Testing Unit Lead

Job Purpose:

  • Provides leadership and direction to South African Testing units for all laboratory activities associated with the processing, testing and analysis of row crop seeds, over Physiology and genetic testing platforms, for the purpose of generating data used in product advancement, process or sale decisions, targeting customer service and compliance.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Head seed physiological and genetic quality squads for Bayer Crop Science at Thobontle, South Africa.
  • As a Visionary : Guide and develop a QT team, inspiring radical focus on outcome and mission delivery :
  • Providing relevant, high quality, timely, cost-effective test results and interpretation that support effective supply of products and serve our customers.
  • As an Architect : Design an organization, though skills and resources, aligned with actual and future needs.
  • Ensure the customer is in the center of team work, prioritizing accuracy and timely delivery of results and Turn around Time.
  • Have in place relevant tools to visualize performance and processes to secure accuracy, repeatability and defensibility of data. Have in place communication processes optimizing lab planning and customers listening and answering.
  • As a Catalyst : Made his team accountable for their reputation.
  • Foster collaboration and learning across teams, having in place trustable teams accountable for technical and financial lab performance and compliance with officials and Bayer requirements in term of HSE, sustainability as well as ISO, ISTA and country certification authorities, covering documentation, sampling and test requirements.
  • Guide a team capable to define needs for innovation to deliver more value.
  • As a Coach : assist the team operate in 90 days cycles, and apply new approach to work, Inspire and promote continuous improvement mindset, sustaining OnePSS philosophy and tools.
  • Prioritize business continuity and management of change.
  • Help team learn and evolve continuously, leveraging expertise and fostering inclusion

Qualification Required:

  • Masters or Ph.D in Life Sciences with 5-7 years experience in a biological, agricultural or related field along with demonstrated success in supervisory abilities.
  • Possess managerial, leadership, coaching and inclusive skills as well as business acumen to effectively lead the activities and development of direct reports in a multicultural environment, and successfully interact with a broad range of internal and external functional-groups at all levels of BCS organization.
  • Flexible to frequent travels.
  • Consistently demonstrate the ability to develop a high level of trust within your team, business partners, leadership and stakeholder groups.
  • Experience managing budgets in business/team with high financial impact.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge in Seed Analysis Process (ISTA rules).
  • Knowledge in Seed Legislation, ISO9001 - ISO17025, SAP_Quality module

What is required of you?

As a financial services professional, you will be accountable for maintaining superior service delivery to your customers, through effective personal time and task management. Importantly, the financial adviser profession requires continuous personal development through the attendance and completion of accredited courses and programmes.

Providing relevant and appropriate financial advice, hinges on a complete understanding of the customer’s personal and financial circumstances – and their goals or dreams for the future. As such, interpersonal and communications skills in order to build solid relationships are fundamentally important.

What do we need from you?

  • A Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • FAIS compliance
  • RE5 an advantage
  • A valid Driver’s licence and your own car
  • A clear criminal and credit check
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience (preferably in sales)
  • Proven computer literacy (MS Office suite)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Field Supervisor

Job Purpose:

  • Plan and coordinates seed production activities with seed growers in order to meet the seed availability-, and quality standards required.
  • Ensures the efficient use of human resources, equipment and materials.

Quality and risk

  • Ensure commercial seed production fields are cultivated to the ultimate quality standards. Take responsibility for assigned Hectares every season.
  • Identify risks continuously and implement preventive and pro-active strategies driving potential company loss to a minimum. Take ownership of Seed certification process for own fields.

Architect:

  • Actively look for opportunities in resource and talent flow to squad for specific outcomes in 90-day cycles.
  • Cost management: Deliver cost reduction directly in field production squad.
  • Prevent financial loss to Bayer by limiting grower guarantee payments, controllable risk and other variable compensation components.
  • Quality Safety and OnePSS Systems:
  • Ensure compliance with ISO9001:2015 and ISO45001.
  • Actively record safety observation and near misses, Adhere to all applicable legislation, Bayer safety policies and procedures, Actively promote the Bayer safety culture and best practices Lead HSE efforts according ISO45001 standards focusing on legal compliance and identifying safety risks applying the HIRA methodology.
  • Lead the implementation of and compliance with quality assurance standards in field mission.
  • Identify and deploy operational improvement, tracking and best practices and processes to continually seek improvements in reliability and cost efficiencies.
  • Manage Velocity/Scout data, to ensure correctness for contracting and field processes.
  • Utilize onePSS as a platform to implement best practices (Visual Management, track KPI`s on Tier 2 and 3 meetings.
  • Increase operational efficiency and advance customer experience through continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications Required:

  • Agricultural or technical Diploma or 3 years practical experience in farming activities, planting and harvesting.
  • 3 Years seed production experience
  • SACAA RPAS Drone Pilot License advantageous

Field Equipment Specialist X2 Job Purpose:
  • Coordinate operational processes involving field equipment to support planting, detasseling, and harvesting operations across 5,400 hectares in South Africa.
  • Implement and manage maintenance programs.
  • Oversee contractors in planning and executing maintenance activities.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Support the Field Mission team, Equipment Team Lead, and related squads in achieving Bayer’s vision, mission, and objectives in South Africa.
  • Develop operating procedures for all field equipment in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Train and evaluate all equipment operators.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance programs for field equipment, managing assets valued at approximately €20 million.
  • Ensure fleet assets are clean and well-maintained.
  • Set quality parameters affecting product quality and customer costs.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead ESH initiatives, promote safety, and ensure compliance with Bayer standards and OHS regulations.
  • Create and manage annual operating budgets, seeking continuous improvements in reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Use visual management tools to monitor costs and maintenance progress.
  • Control inventory and spare parts stock levels.
  • Plan and coordinate in-house detasseling, harvesting, inbound freight, and dry harvesting activities in collaboration with the production team.
  • Manage pollen blowing operations on selected fields.
  • Collaborate on harvest scheduling and support projects like VSR & ISR planting, pollen blowing, dry/direct harvesting, and technology deployment strategies.
  • Coordinate with internal teams including Africa Field Equipment Lead, South Africa RC Supply Site Lead, and others supporting South African operations.
  • Support quality testing in laboratories and field quality assurance.
Qualifications Required:
