Interwaste, a leading Waste Management company is seeking the services of a Senior Landfill Supervisor for its site in the Klinkerstene, Delmas area.
POSITION INFO:
Role Overview
The purpose of the Supervisor function is to effectively manage and supervise the daily operations by optimizing vehicle, staff and waste management. To supervise and oversee strategic, operational and administrative tasks and requirements in order to ensure the smooth running of project operations. Responsible for planning, controlling, directing, and managing the operations & all resources of a contract.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental, Health and Safety
- Ensure compliance with legal and moral obligations in relation to the position, understanding and implemening the relevant sections of the Health Safety and Environmental requirements.
- Adhere and implement all AARTO/National Road traffic act minimum requirements
- Responsible for ensuring that all transport and transported products / waste are compliant with all legislation and regulations and companies waste acceptance procedures.
- To adhere to all of Interwaste policies, procedures and SHE requirements.
- Recommend and administer policies and procedures to enhance operations.
- Understand, implement and adhere to the BBS policy
- Avoid instructions and management behaviours that conflict with BBS principles.
- Ensure compliance with all ISO requirements and ensure continued compliance to ensure ISO accreditation is achieved.
- Conduct work according to customer-specific requirements and adhere to customer rules (where applicable).
- Ensure that all risk assessments / permits / policies and procedures are adhered to
- Identify Hazards/Aspects and Risks/Impacts of HSE in your respective areas of operation.
- Participate and contribute to the recording of Hazards and aspects in your area of responsibility.
- Make sure that all personnel under your authority report stop cards as needed.

- Plant Hours Report
- Ash Cost Report
- Lechate Report
- Quarantine Report
- Keep monthly, daily electronic records of all plant hours, fuel consumption, oil utilisation, daily fuel records, daily waste volumes (tonnages), cover material utilisation, weather reports.
- Records (wind directions, rainfall, temperatures) and all other specific site reports (recycling, water levels, pumping etc).
- Prepare and submit weekly reports and plant hours to management.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports to Management not later than three (3) working days after month end.
- Plan and organise efficient utilization of plan compliment on site.
- Report all breakdowns and preventative maintenance to plant manager, telephonically or on the maintenance request (EFD-88).
- Liaise with plant manager on duration of downtime before report to client on action plant.
- Plan and liaise with plant division on services.
- Ensure operators inspect equipment for proper operating condition and loose or worn parts and that they observe equipment instruments while equipment is in use and report any issues in accordance while established policies.
- Assist landfill users by giving directions and providing information.
- Ability to monitor the leachate control systems, logic controllers, lift-stations and pumps.
- Ensure grounds maintenance is performed as needed on the landfill (Litter pick-up, grass cutting, and seeding).
- Supervise and complete minor facility maintenance as needed. Oversees regular inspections of equipment, facilities and all landfill operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements governing the disposal of solid waste.
- Engage assigned employees in active participation to instil a culture of safety by demonstration of a personal commitment to safe operations and active personal outreach to operational employees.
- Assist in the effective management of the functional areas to maximize financial performance while upholding quality standards.
- Managing and controlling the expenditure of the Depot and operations according to financial procedures to minimise expenditure.
- Responsible for daily vehicles business management, ensure vehicles operation; support efficiently daily business, be responsible for the consequence.
- Management of Time and Attendance for allocated staff.
- Ensure compliance to relevant legislation: including BCEA, LRA, EE Act.
- Matric
- BSC / National Diploma in Civil Engineering preferred
- 5-10 years experience in landfill and waste management
- Valid drivers license
- Strong financial acumen
