Responsibilities:
- Recruitment:
- Manage and coordinate the end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, screening, interviewing and providing feedback to the candidates
- Collaborate with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and identify suitable candidates
- Assist with creating relevant job description for vacant roles
- Prepare employment contracts
- Onboarding and Offboarding:
- Ensure a seamless onboarding experience for new hires, including orientation and documentation
- Oversee offboarding processes and process the relevant documentation
- Employee Engagement and Relations:
- Act as the first point of contact for HR related queries
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
- Employee Relations and Compliance:
- Provide guidance to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and South African labour laws (BCEA, LRA, EEA).
- Assist in resolving employee queries, grievances, and disciplinary matters fairly and consistently.
- HR Operations and Administration:
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and ensure compliance with POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act).
- Prepare HR reports, letters, and documentation as required
- Maintain and update employee records on Workday
- Follow up with outstanding trainings
- Prepare and manage HR-related documentation

- Payroll and Benefits:
- Support the payroll process by verifying and providing accurate employee data
- Assist in benefits enrolment, changes and inquiries
- Coordinate benefit related paperwork and assist employees with benefit questions
- Leave administration:
- Assist in processing leave requests and maintaining accurate records
- Handling of leave queries from employees and reconciling leave balances as required
- Policy Development and Compliance:
- Assist in implementing and updating HR policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with labour laws and regulations
- Employment Equity:
- Administer all EE functions
- Assist with the preparation of the EE plan and annual submissions
- Assist with the submission of the annual submissions
- Analytical Support:
- Analyze HR data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvements
- Create reports and presentations for management as needed
- Ad Hoc Duties:
- Perform any other reasonable duties as and when required to support the HR function and broader business objectives
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an HR Officer or similar role
- Strong recruitment skills with experience in managing full-cycle recruitment processes
- Strong knowledge of LRA, BCEA, EEA
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and propose actionable solutions
- Knowledge of our HRIS, Workday will be an added advantage
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Basic knowledge of payroll processing with SAGE experience being advantageous
- The ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English, is a must. Other languages could prove useful.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Administrative Human Resources Services and working as an integral part of the Human Resources team, the HR Advisor provides a range of human resources services to client departments. These services include recruitment, job evaluation, salary administration, interpretation and application of human resource and payroll policies and practices, the interpretation and application of staff policies and collective agreements, organizational change, and performance management.
The HR Advisor is responsible for full-cycle recruitment, job evaluation of unionized and non-unionized positions; and for providing HR support, advice and guidance to portfolio of assigned client groups. In consultation with the Assistant Director and/or other senior HR staff, the HR Advisor supports organizational change and restructuring processes; participates in grievance processes, contributes to attendance and disability management as a member of a cross-functional team; and participates in special projects as part of the Faculty of Arts & Science Administrative HR Team.
Essential Qualifications:
I. Education:
- University degree or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of (or working towards) Certificate of Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
II. Experience:
- Minimum two to three (2-3) years’ relevant human resources experience, including experience in a combination of the following - recruitment, job evaluation, labour relations, organizational change, attendance management, performance management and salary administration.
- HR experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
III. Skills:
- Excellent client service orientation, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Strong organizational skills along with ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines, demonstrated ability to adjust to changing operational and client needs
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of and apply collective agreements and a wide range of policies, procedures, processes and legislation, and to learn new systems
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated tact, discretion, judgement and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team environment.
- Sound knowledge of human resources best practices and employment-related legislation.
- Prior experience applying USW Staff-Appointed, Casual, Don bargaining units collective agreements is an asset

Main purpose / objective of the position :

- Proactively formulate and manage complex HR aspects of the Departmental / Operational Plan, which includes all facets of Talent Management.
- Act as a strategic Business Partner and Advisor to all IIE Rosebank College campuses and the National Office in support of all HR-related matters and HR strategy.
- Develop and implement the HR plan to enable business objectives and identify gaps, propose and implement changes necessary to cover people-related risks and change management.
- Provide proactive support, advice, and solutions to business leaders and deliver input to business strategy.
Talent Management & Development
- Implement, oversee, and enhance talent management strategies, including succession planning, skills development, and career progression programs.

Performance Management
- Driving a high-performance culture by taking accountability for an effective and well-articulated performance management process

- Lead the department by managing appointments, promotions, and industrial relations issues conjunction with the Human Resources Support Service Unit
Employee Relations

Minimum Educational Requirement :

Minimum Qualifications & Experience :
- Degree or National Diploma in Human Resources Management or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar HR Manager role.
- Previous experience within a legal or professional services environment will be advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- High attention to detail and exceptional organisational ability
