As a Project Engineer: Wind Energy, you would be responsible for the following:
- Responsible for the general day-to-day technical project management of the relevant projects.
- Drafting Employers Requirements/Specifications (and other contractual schedules) which are well integrated with the turbine supply, installation, and service contracts.
- Negotiation and finalization of supply, installation & service contracts (commercial, technical, and legal aspects, latter in conjunction with legal teams).
- Leading the technical interface between the various work packages (finance, legal, technical, permitting, grid connection, etc.) necessary to fully develop the projects.
- Lead the consideration of technical options of the projects, identifying optimal solutions from a technical, commercial, and execution perspective at an early stage including civil, mechanical, and electrical aspects of wind plants, interconnection, high-voltage design, and yield assessments.
- Realization of technical and commercial analysis of proposals, recommendation for the selection of the supplier and model.
- Ensuring technical compliance with project documents.
- Coordinating the procurement process of contractors to perform services under the relevant EPC and O&M agreements.
- Coordinating and managing the procurement of technical advisors (owner’s engineer, etc.).
- Interfacing with owner’s engineer (OE), sponsors legal advisors, and lenders legal and technical advisors (LLA & LTA), contractors, lenders, etc. during financial close process and construction.
- Optimization of design and pricing parameters.
- Manage the Contractor design review process during concept and detailed design (in consultation with the OE).
- Provide technical input for financial close of successfully awarded projects.
- Maintaining the project time schedule.
- Meeting tight deadlines and keeping within budget.
- Technical, contractual, and operational management of wind turbine supply, installation, and service contracts.
- Prepare management presentations and generate periodic reports with the progress status of the company's projects.
- Technological & commercial horizon scanning of wind OEMs/products.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives via market intelligence and LCOE reduction initiatives.
- Monitor the installation of the wind farms in collaboration with the construction teams, verification of the proper application of the supply and installation contracts in the field and follow-up of inspection and test procedures.
- Monitor on-site commissioning of wind turbines and SCADA.
- Technical coordination with asset management teams.
- Participation in the improvement of procedures.
- Such other duties that may be required from time to time within the general scope of the position.

Responsibilities
- Closely adhere to all safety standards and procedures. Act as a safety role model, encourage and recognize others completing safe acts, and intervene when unsafe acts are being practiced
- Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the operational environment, implement effective risk mitigation, and provide recommendations to higher-level technical staff and management
- Demonstrate and promote integrity, strong initiative, a no-compromise focus on safety, and quality of work on a continuous basis and may assist with or perform basic quality audits of less experienced staff
- Perform intermediate level wind turbine maintenance and/or installation tasks as assigned, such as proficient operation and use of tools (including but not limited to specialized calibration, hydraulic, power tools) and basic turbine equipment
- Document tasks where required and enters data into company system (e.g. SAP).
- Effectively gather information regarding turbine performance / issues
- May diagnose, recommend, and implement solutions up to intermediate routine issues

- Trade tested - Mechanical or electrical
- Demonstrated use and understanding of intermediate level power tools such as hydraulic, power torque and diagnostic tools (e.g. fluke meter functions and hydraulic pressure gauge)
- Ability to demonstrate an intermediate working knowledge of industrial safety practices / protocols (e.g. Confined Space, energy isolation)

Become part of our specialist wind team delivering NZ’s next generation of renewable energy.
We’re looking for experienced Rigger/Dogmen to support crane lifts, transport, and installation on large wind farms. These roles will be based at various wind farm locations around New Zealand, including KAIWERA DOWNS - Gore , KAIWAIKAWE - Dargaville , and other sites.

Smith Crane and Construction is a family-owned business with over 30 years of experience, offering crane hire, civil construction (including marine civil and pre-cast manufacturing), transportation, and wind energy installation and maintenance. We pride ourselves on our strong team culture, safety commitment, and customer focus.
What you'll be doing:
- Safely operate tools and equipment (EWP, Forklift, telehandler)
- Rigging & slinging loads safely, following lift & rigging plans
- Communicate clearly with crane operators & site teams
- Inspect, maintain & report on lifting gear and rigging equipment
- Work outdoors in variable weather & flexible hours
- Install and unload wind turbine components up to 100 tons
- Move cranes and equipment on site
What we're after:
- NZQA Rigging Qualifications (or international equivalent)
- Qualified to operate EWP, Telehandler, Forklift, or willing to learn
- 2+ years’ rigging experience, preferably on wind farms or cranes
- Clear communicator & strong safety mindset
- Physically fit and reliable
What we offer:
- Pay rate: $28-$40 per hour
- 1-year fixed-term contract
- Minimum 40 hours per week
- Locations include Southland, Northland, and others
- Supportive, safety-focused team
- On-the-job training
