Engineering concern based in the Somerset West area has a vacancy for a Welder / Fabricator to join their team, who will be reporting to the Maintenance Manager.

Duties will include (but not limited to):

• Welding / Fabrication
• Repair site equipment
• Assist the maintenance team with general maintenance work
• Assist the maintenance team with site infrastructure work

• N3 Technical Certificate (or equivalent)
• At least 3 years experience in welding / fabrication
• Maintenance workshop experience

• Own transport + valid driver’s licence
• Forklift licence will be an advantage
• Live in the Helderberg area (or willing to relocate)
• Be willing to work overtime and weekends (when required)

• Grade 12
• Perform Mig welding (CO2 welding) on structural steel according to technical standards
• 3 years experience in CO2 welding
• Good communication skills
• Conduct routine maintenance and setup of welding equipment to ensure optimal performance
• Clean criminal record
• Inspect weld joints visual and with tools if needed to ensure compliance with company and industry quality standard
• Read and interpret blueprints schematics and detailed fabrication drawings

– inspection, diagnosing problems and carry out appropriate checking/testing

– clean and maintain all equipment and tools and maintain a clean working area

– organize all supplies (materials, tools and equipment's) required, liaising with appropriate parties

– carry out tasks to meet applicable safety standards, targets, criteria and deadlines and to maximize productivity and profitability

– carry out tasks within prescribed time limits

– help minimize downtime and wastage

– assist team members on projects to ensure efficient operations and to ensure targets are met

We are seeking a skilled and certified Coded Welder to join our team. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in performing high-quality welding operations in accordance with international welding codes and procedures. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards across a range of structural and pipe welding tasks.

• Perform welding operations using processes such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, or FCAW based on job requirements.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, isometric sketches, and welding symbols.
• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy pipes or structural components according to WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications).
• Conduct visual inspections of welded joints and ensure compliance with quality standards (ASME, AWS, or ISO standards).
• Use measuring tools to check tolerances and ensure weld accuracy.
• Prepare, align, and secure materials before welding.
• Perform tack welding, root passes, and final welds under pressure conditions.
• Operate grinders, cutting torches, and other fabrication tools when necessary.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and workstations in a safe and clean condition.
• Ensure strict compliance with occupational health and safety regulations (OHS Act).
• Collaborate with quality control inspectors and welding supervisors on defect rectifications.
• Complete daily welding reports and timesheets accurately.
• Assist in pressure testing and commissioning when required.

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Certified Coded Welder with a valid Welder Qualification Record (WQR).
• Minimum 35 years experience in a similar role within fabrication, construction, petrochemical, or mining environments.
• Proficient in 6G, 3G, and/or 4G positions as required.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
• Strong understanding of material types, heat control, and welding procedures.
• Ability to pass X-ray and ultrasonic tests.
• Physically fit and able to work long hours in demanding environments.
• Valid drivers license (advantageous).
• Trade Test (advantageous but not always mandatory).
