The Kumo Organization will provide you the opportunity to contribute to the complete vertical stack of a service-oriented architecture based system, which is horizontally connected to most systems in the larger Amazon ecosystem. We code mostly in Java, JavaScript and Python, and build on technologies powering the web such as Angular, Node and ElasticSearch as well as a broad range of in-house Amazon Cloud technologies and native AWS technologies, such as Lambda and DynamoDB.

In this role you will:

1. Write high-quality, efficient, testable code in Java and other object-oriented languages.
2. Build highly available, secure, distributed systems in microservices, container, and distributed cluster-compute architectures.
3. Collaborate with some of the best engineers in the industry to work on some of the most complex challenges in large-scale computing.
4. Own and operate the systems that you build based on real-time customer data and demanding service-level agreements.
5. Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement as a member of a Scrum team.
6. Play an instrumental role in defining the system architecture, own and implement specific components, and help shape the overall user experience.

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

• Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent, or 5+ years of computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis) experience

Overview

Amazon's International Seller Services (ISS) org is seeking a Software Development Engineer to be part of an engineering team working on innovative products and tools to help Account Managers (AMs). AMs help onboard sellers into Amazon and help them grow their business. We are developing innovative products that leverage generative and agentic AI to transform workflows for AMs. Our aim is to help AMs in every aspect of their daily activities as they help sellers improve selection, grow and expand their business worldwide.

You will be a critical part of a team of software engineers, building AM tools and transformative solutions powered by cloud computing and generative AI. This role offers an opportunity to work at the forefront of agentic AI and distributed systems, building new products and services from the ground up and enhancing existing tools.

In a typical day, you will be working with a team of engineers working on a variety of products ranging from AI Assistant that automates workflows for AMs, creating billing solutions, managing various tasks and automation. You will be working with Products Managers and AMs worldwide to create and execute a roadmap of compelling user experiences. A closer partnership with other engineering teams and applied science team will be very critical. You will be extremely curious about learning and incorporating the latest developments in generative AI to develop products that deliver agentic AI solutions.

The team sits in Amazon's International Service Org that creates tools, products and agentic AI solutions for Account Managers worldwide. The products will include a mix of solutions that are common across Sellers in multiple countries and solutions customized for Sellers in each country.

Our platform handles a significant load of Internet traffic generated by internal and external customers that build their solutions on EC2. On any given day we use Java, Kotlin, Typescript, Python, Ruby and Go as well as various Native AWS services and Amazon-internal tools. We don't expect you to be an expert in, or know all these technologies, but we do expect you to have strong programming fundamentals and be excited to learn about these technologies.

Our team invents, designs and builds software that is stable, scalable and performant. We write and support code that is easy to understand with solutions that are pragmatic. We keep a high bar in code reviews to ensure high quality code.

Engineers in our teams have great ownership, a drive to innovate and aim to have resounding impact in whatever we build.

As a member of this team, you will own and contribute to the development of quality designs & solutions, solving complex problems. You are able to operate with limited guidance and take a long term view of your team’s services and how they fit into the broader architecture. The services that your team own are used by many teams and you will have opportunities to work and influence engineers and teams outside of your own team to build out EC2 architecture that supports Amazon scale business needs.
