Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a tertiary qualification in a technical or water-related field, or relevant trade certification
  • Minimum two years work experience, ideally in the water treatment or related industries will be required
  • Knowledge of and experience in water treatment technologies, systems and principles would be a distinct advantage
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders of all levels, are important

Job Description

Responsible for performing a variety of skilled technical duties and semi-skilled labor in the operation, maintenance, repair, and construction of water systems & wastewater collection systems, including water production and distribution systems, metering, pressure regulators, and customer service response.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides lead direction, training, and work review to staff; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows up to ensure completion of assigned work.
  • Reads blueprints at an intermediate level, analyzes project plans to determine construction requirements, and assigns duties accordingly.
  • Operates water systems and performs maintenance tasks; cleans, maintains, and repairs main line sewers, manholes, and laterals; locates, repairs, and maintains water and sewer line breaks and leaks; repairs and installs various water and wastewater appurtenances.

  • Responds as a Shift Operator, depending on certifications achieved and duties assigned.
  • Maintains and services a variety of test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Installs, adjusts, and troubleshoots pressure regulating valves, meters, and chemical pumps (if applicable).
  • Responds to questions and complaints from the public; carries out assignments in a non-disruptive manner in areas with heavy public use.
  • Responds to emergency call-outs and performs standby duties as required.
  • Prepares and maintains records of work performed and materials used.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the company’s service by offering suggestions and participating as an active team member.
Requirements
  • Relevant technical tertiary qualification.
