The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for maintaining equipment in basic condition and extending its lifetime through adequate and cost-effective (preventive/condition-based) maintenance in the plant. - A Mechanical Fitter will oversee daily shift operations, ensuring the smooth running of manufacturing utilities, waste reduction initiatives, and plant maintenance activities.
- Supports the execution of reliability maintenance (Breakdown Elimination, Unplanned/Planned Losses) and loss elimination journey for the plant, in close collaboration with Operations. He/she owns the execution of Mechanical Maintenance plan for plant, ensures this is continuously updated and timely/efficiently executed (this includes planning, preparation, staging, installing/assembling and testing).
- He/she leverages the full KWS toolbox in the journey to eliminate losses in the plant. The KWS tools help him/her in diagnosing malfunctioning systems, identifying root cause and executing relevant short- and long term improvements.
- Throughout the Reliability Maintenance journey, the Mechanical Fitter actively works to reduce Unplanned Downtime, initially through replacing with Planned Downtime so adequate (preventive/condition-based) maintenance can be executed, afterwards reducing the Planned Downtime whilst further improving OEE and reducing maintenance costs/spare parts inventory.

Job Overview:
The senior artisan is responsible for ensuring that the full mechanical/electrical maintenance of the utilities Plant/equipment and repair agenda is executed within Pepsico engineering standards. That new artisans are fully integrated into the Engineering structure/team and ways of working. Ensure seamless interaction between critical stakeholders in the manufacturing environment (New). Ensure proper guidance, training, competency assessments and sign offs are done for new apprentices. Continuous improvement, initiatives requiring mechanical skills and competence are delivered.
Equipment Maintenance
- Responsible for monitoring, diagnostics repair and maintenance of all Factory utility systems in accordance with manufacturer and company standards, including but not limited to:
- Steam Generation equipment - boilers, pumps, condensate system and pressure reducing valves
- Compressed Air equipment - Air compressors, Evaporative condensers
- Effluent handling system - sump pumps, rotary screens, centrifuges
- HVAC and Electrical reticulation - standby generators
- Plant feed water supply, storage and distribution system
- Execute daily logging (meter reading), inspections and preventive maintenance tasks (e.g. filter replacements, oil changes, lubrication, gasket replacement)
- Assists in the development of maintenance procedures, preventive, routine and predictive work instructions, training and troubleshooting manuals, protocols and corrective/preventive actions

- Reviews and updates equipment maintenance schedule requests and specification changes through Reliability engineer

Continuous Improvement
- Completes equipment modifications requests including Specifications and drawing proposals.
- Complete continuous improvement initiatives to support equipment reliability, IPS and food safety agenda with support from the Site Engineer.
- Tracks and documents CI improvement initiatives executed and process improvement challenges when they arise
- Ensures that scheduled maintenance in terms of Engineering plans is conducted as prescribed following defined protocols and compliance to GMPs
- Ensures that machined spares are available as and when required and shall schedule time to execute this one
- Completes job cards and parts requisition documents timeously to improve on meantime to repair thus ensuring high plant availability
Qualifications
- Qualified/Trade Tested Electrician
- N6 Mechanical Engineering Qualification
- Minimum 5 years' maintenance experience in the FMCG environment
- Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office and maintenance software (CMMS Systems -SAP/On Key/JD Edwards etc.)

Purpose of the role
The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for maintaining equipment in basic condition and extending its lifetime through adequate and cost-effective (preventive/condition-based) maintenance in the plant. He/she is responsible for identifying and eliminating losses/waste, reducing Equipment Breakdowns, executing unplanned and planned downtime, eventually reducing maintenance cost and improving OEE across Operations through leveraging the KWS methodologies, while maintaining the highest standards in Safety and Quality & Food Safety. He/she ensures that the Maintenance Plan for the plant is continuously updated and executed.
The incumbent is expected to carry-out any lawful duties assigned. Limited travel could be required. He/she performs standby duties and work overtime across the factory, which may mean coming in during odd hours.
Working Relationships

- Closely works together with the PM Coordinator, the Maintenance Technicians for Process/Packing, the Stores Controller, Packing Engineer and Process Engineer 'Process'.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Environmental, Health and Safety
- Role Models, promotes and encourages a Health and Safety culture within the Plant, leveraging GEMBA, Safety 7 Tours and Leader-led observation programs as key coaching opportunities.
- Ensures that all Environmental, Health & Safety rules, policies & procedures (incl legislated requirements) are being followed and acts pro-actively by addressing any concerns.
- Assists in root cause analysis of incidents/audit findings in plant and identifies/implements actions to mitigate risk/structurally eliminate the hazard.
Quality and Food Safety
- Role Models, promotes and encourages a Food Safety & Quality culture within the Plant, leveraging GEMBA & Golden 6 Tours as key coaching opportunities.
- Ensures that all Food Safety & Quality rules, policies & procedures (incl legislated requirements) are being followed and acts pro-actively by addressing any concerns.
- Assists in root cause analysis of incidents/audit findings in plant and identifies/implements actions to mitigate risk/structurally eliminate the hazard (including but not limited to Adverse Events, Non-conformances, Food Safety/Quality Incidents & Alerts, …).
People
- Fosters proactive, clear, consistent and transparent communication across the Maintenance Department, Operations and the rest of the plant Daily Direction Setting meetings, Toolbox talks, Shift team meetings and Shift Take Overs.
- Actively drives capability building for the Mechanical Maintenance area (esp. apprentices) and Operations, linked to loss elimination and Management of Change.
Kellanova Work Systems (KWS)
- Support the critical Daily Management Systems (DMS).
- Ensures execution of critical Maintenance DMSs and actively drives implementation of Reliability Maintenance in the plant.
- Actively enforces SAP as the single source of truth (including but not limited to spares, work orders, purchase requisitions, …).
Manufacturing and Operational Efficiency
- A Mechanical Fitter will oversee daily shift operations, ensuring the smooth running of manufacturing utilities, waste reduction initiatives, and plant maintenance activities.
- Supports the execution of reliability maintenance (Breakdown Elimination, Unplanned/Planned Losses) and loss elimination journey for the plant, in close collaboration with Operations. He/she owns the execution of Mechanical Maintenance plan for plant, ensures this is continuously updated and timely/efficiently executed (this includes planning, preparation, staging, installing/assembling and testing).
- He/she leverages the full KWS toolbox in the journey to eliminate losses in the plant. The KWS tools help him/her in diagnosing malfunctioning systems, identifying root cause and executing relevant short- and long term improvements.
- Throughout the Reliability Maintenance journey, the Mechanical Fitter actively works to reduce Unplanned Downtime, initially through replacing with Planned Downtime so adequate (preventive/condition-based) maintenance can be executed, afterwards reducing the Planned Downtime whilst further improving OEE and reducing maintenance costs/spare parts inventory.

EDUCATION & RELEVANT YEARS OF JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 with relevant trade Test (5 years' experience) coupled with FMCG working experience.
