Overview:
Oversees a freight terminal responsible arranging transportation for all issue transactions. Fully knowledgeable in all Government and Commercial Traffic Management functions and processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Direct employees engaged in planning outbound shipping loads, scheduling movement of outbound shipments to include air, surface, small parcel, and sea IAW all applicable contracts, DFTS, SDDC Global Freight Management System (GFMS) applications, and completing required documentation and data entry functions to include Bills of Lading (BOLs), manifests and all other forms of transportation documentation.
- Plan the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials based on projected workload on a weekly or monthly basis.
- Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences IAW general work schedules, methods, and policies established by the Site Manager and/or Alternate Site Manager.
- Redirect workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work and to accommodate daily workload fluctuations. Conducts planning of current and future work schedules, providing workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations as to the scheduling of projected work.
- Ensure work is done properly and efficiently IAW the terms and condition of the contract.
- Use DSS and other Government Data Systems to perform the requirements in the PWS.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Transportation Manager manages a team of Transportation Specialists.
- Ensures area of responsibility is operating in agreement with all referenced DLA Distribution SOPs, addendums, FRAGOS, and Process Manuals as required for day to day operational processing and preparation for any audit event.
- Responsible for compliance with the Audit Assertion Program reporting and documentation requirements, to include monthly assertion reporting that assigned areas of responsibility are ready for audit and or corrective action plans are documented and being corrected if an assertion cannot be made.
- Responsible for the Audit Assertion Program functional areas of Quality Control and Customer Service.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience shall include a minimum three (3) years of experience in transportation using DSS or equivalent automated WMS within the past five (5) years.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- DLA experience is a plus
- Must have experience drafting business correspondence and written communication.
- Excellent writing and interpersonal skills are required.
- Must have experience in following policies and procedures
- Must be accurate and have good analytical skills.
- Must have the ability to organize and coordinate workload to meet deadlines.

Job Description
We are looking for a Logistics and Supply Chain Manager.
This is relative high-level job and carries quite some serious responsibility here at PABT.
Job Description
- Reporting to Head of Operations and Head of Engineering.
Responsible for following departments, each department has a hierarchy with different levels of employees, eg manager, supervisors and staff.
Stores and warehousing department - Two large warehouses with a stockholding of R200 mil + with active part numbers.
- Logistics department - a fleet of 10 trucks with drivers, forklifts and other material handling equipment.
Procurement department – Divided in local procurement and international procurement. We spend a significant amount of international procurement; this person must be up to speed with regulations and processes and be able to manage large in international shipping companies.
Managing the complete supply chain – from Sales order, to procurement, stores, delivery and then invoicing.
- Forecasting and maintaining stock levels in a complex supply and demand environment.
KPA's
- Stock level accuracy
Delivery time (From Sales Order to Invoicing). This pertains to the following steps:
Procurement evaluating Sales order for Shortages and the sourcing shortages
- Stores picking parts to build product and supply as spares.
- Communication between stores, procurement and production on ETA for shortages (note – we source local and international)
- Delivery and invoicing of product
- Procurement spend and maintaining gross profit margins
Requirements:
- Expert knowledge of Syspro
- Expert in Excell
- High level knowledge of imports and exports processes and regulations
- Expert knowledge in supply chain for a manufacturing company
- Proven track record of managing large teams
- Must be a self starter, able to take on challenges with minimal intervention of top management
Additional Requirement:
- This candidate must have a proven track record in which he/she has successfully implemented solutions in complex problematic supply chains.
- This candidate to have proven track record of creating and implementing solutions to problematic and defective processes in warehouses which resulted in stock issues.
