WSP has a new opportunity for aJunior Traffic and Transportation Engineerto be part of ourTransport & Infrastructureteam on afull-timebasis, based inCape Town or Midrand.The typical role and responsibilities of this role is to provideTraffic and Transport Planning Engineering servicesin the highways, land development, mining, infrastructure, environmental and property and buildings sectors. Priorities will change according to business requirements; however, it is an expectation of that the candidate will also have the following:
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Undertake and deliver high quality transportation impact assessments for any land-use development type for project in South Africa, and in Africa to relevant local or lender standards.
- Assist with transport planning projects for road authorities, government and developers under principal review.
- Proven experience, including but not limited to:
- Transportation Impact Assessments for any type of land-use development
- Assessment and conceptual design of non-motorised transport infrastructure
- Assessment and conceptual design of public transport infrastructure
- Working knowledge of Transportation planning for small to medium scale land-use or transport upgrade projects
- Experience in the design of traffic signal layouts and traffic signal timing plans
- Plan and organize traffic and transport field investigations for analysis, including providing interpretation of traffic data in a collaborative team environment.
- Prepare practical technically competent reports, documents and proposals under principal review.
- Contribute in the implementation of corporate HSSE programs across our office teams.
- Communicate with potential clients undertaking business development in the property, energy, logistics, transport and mining sectors

Skills:
- Significant traffic and transport planning consultancy experience in South Africa and in countries abroad
- Ability to manage client relationships, time management, and ability to manage small projects.
- Ability to write high quality technical reports (in English), strong English communication skills and critical thinking skills are essential.
Qualifications
- A completedBEng/BSc/BTech in Civil Engineering
- 5 to 10 years relevant experience
- Must be registered as Candidate Engineer with ECSA, and nearing professional registration.
- Proven track record in utilizing traffic and transport planning software:
- Proficient in SIDRA intersection and network analysis.
- Working knowledge of interpreting and assisting with EMME and VISSIM modelling.
- Driver’s licence

Our client is an engineering consulting company specializing in Transportation, Water and Sanitation, Structures, Project Management, Infrastructure Advisory and Management Services.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesYou will:
- Provide support and involved with all marketing, business development and management of this specific area of Bridges and Transportation Structures for the business unit.
- Manage Engineers, Technologists, Technicians and site staff throughout the Planning, Design, Tender, Implementation and Close Out stages of various Bridges and Transportation Structures projects.
- Responsible for all technical aspects, for Bridges and Transportation Structures, including investigation and design, field assessments, preparation of tender documentation and cost estimates.
- Preparation of technical reports and design reports.
- Keeping abreast with technology development and research in the field of Bridges and Transportation Structures.
- Construction monitoring and implementation of site construction work as and when required, on a part-time or full-time basis.
- Mentor graduate engineers, technologists and technicians.
- Maintain regular and continued professional development through on the job training, in-house courses, seminars or outsourced specialist training as required and as agreed.
Achievement of objectives will be measured and reviewed during the annual staff appraisal.
Desired Experience & QualificationQualifications
- BSc / BTech Civil engineering
- Master's degree in civil engineering would be advantageous.
- Professional registration as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech
- COTO Certified Bridge inspector or willingness to obtain certification.
Skills
- At least 10 years’ experience in the field.
- Post graduate experience of at least 5-10 years in the design of large Bridges, Freeway interchanges and related transportation structures.
- Has independently designed bridges and independently assumed a bridge engineer’s role.
- Familiar with Bridge Design Standards of SANRAL and Local Government Departments.
- Sound knowledge of both Structural Steel and Reinforced Concrete Bridge Design.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, MS Projects, AutoCAD, CADS RC, Revit, Prokon, Midas and other relevant design software.
- Extensive experience in the use of NEC, FIDIC, JBCC and GCC contracts advantageous.

Position Outline:
Kantey & Templer is in the process of reviewing candidates to fill a Position: Geometric Design Engineer / Technologist Section: Roads & Transportation based in Cape Town .
Skills:
- Highly competent in roads and highways geometric design for national and provincial authorities.
- Extensive experience in complex road projects involving freeway interchange design, major provincial roads, urban arterial roads, dual carriageways, major intersections, roundabouts, road marking, drainage etc.
- Ability to create 3D models (LOD>300) advantageous.
- Preparation of road infrastructure design reports.
- Preparation of tender documentation, including specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.
- Experience with COLTO, COTO & general conditions of contract would be advantageous.
- Site experience would be advantageous.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, requiring co-ordination between discipline interfaces, such as, geotechnical, structures, materials, transportation, environmental etc.
- Compliance with ISO standards of the company.
- Assisting in projects as required.
Qualifications:
- BEng or BTech in Civil Engineering as a minimum.
- A minimum of 8 years’ roads-specific design experience is a pre-requisite.
- Registration with ECSA as a Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech Eng is preferable.
Computer Literacy:
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil3D software packages. Experience with ACC (BIM360) and Navisworks advantageous.
- Microsoft Packages.
Personality Profile:
- Good communication skills (graphic, written and verbal).
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Dedicated to delivering correct and accurate work.
