CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
To facilitate students acquisition of knowledge and skills in the discipline of Architectural Technology, by integrating theoretical and pragmatic knowledge that is locally and globally relevant and in alignment with the vision of the department and the university. To participate in and contribute to research and innovation, postgraduate student supervision, contribute to community, discipline and professional engagement as well as being involved in the core functions of the University.
KEYPERFORMANCEAREAS
- To lead and manage studio-based education in architectural design, advanced building construction and CAD
- To conduct, participate in and publish research output.
- To perform administrative work.
- Participate in postgraduate student supervision.
- Perform academic, community and discipline engagements.
- Contribute to quality of the programmes, programme and accreditation reviews.
CORECOMPETENCIES
- In-depth knowledge of design process and design studio management at undergraduate and advanced diploma levels.
- In-depth knowledge in advanced building construction concepts, techniques and systems and building regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of Architectural software such as AUTOCAD, SKETCH-UP, COREL SUIT, REVIT and/or 3Dsmax.
- In-depth knowledge of the application of sustainable environmental control systems in the design of buildings.
- Have the potential to contribute to knowledge creation by virtue of publications and/or the potential to contribute by virtue of the introduction of new learning material.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
REQUIREMENTS
Lecturer - In order to be considered for appointment, the candidate must have a relevant M +5 (Masters) qualification in Architectural Technology; Architecture or equivalent degree, with at least 2 years of relevant work/practice experience.

- The applicant must submit their academic results and a A3 portfolio of his/her selected work undertaken in private practice (Technological Architectural experience will be given preferences).

To create, design, develop facilitate and administer the learning and teaching process for students in modules presented by Nelson Mandela University at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. To participate in and contribute towards research and innovation; to

To lecture subjects at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in the Department of Architectural Technology and Interior Design in the School of Architecture Department of Software Engineering and potentially across departments in the school, faculty or institution (depending on the operational needs).

REQUIREMENTS
- A doctorate degree in Architecture or related discipline with at least 3 years of relevant academic experience in which competency has been gained.
OR
- A masters degree with professional registration and extensive relevant experience (Five years post-registration).
- Evidence of a research portfolio which must include accredited research output (papers published in accredited journals and subject-specific conference proceedings).
- Track record of successfully completed postgraduate student supervision.
- Sound knowledge in architectural technology and BIM will be an advantage

POSITION OVERVIEW:This is a full-time position for a Middle School Design Technology/Computer Science teacher at the Johannesburg Campus. The ideal candidate is a curious, mindful, and resilient educator who will create and implement a dynamic curriculum that fosters a design-thinking approach and mindset in our students. The teacher should empower students to be thinkers by encouraging creativity, risk-taking, and divergent thinking in an inquiry-based classroom setting.
We are seeking a globally connected and skilled practitioner who can provide rich experiences and provocations that enable students to acquire foundational knowledge and skills in various technologies, including robotics (Lego Mindstorms / VEX), electronics (Arduino), woodworking, CAD, and laser cutting using a project-based learning approach. Through these experiences, students will be challenged to make meaning of "big ideas" and demonstrate their understanding by transferring their learning to new and authentic situations.
This role is integral to our Middle School experience. The teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive, concept-driven curriculum that promotes critical thinking and prepares students to become contributors who can solve future technological challenges. The role also involves leading an Eagle Forum cohort, participating in our FLEX and Club programme, and leading a Middle School Robotics Team to compete in various competitions throughout the school year.
This position requires commitment to the AISJ Portrait of a Learner, modeling the same dispositions we are developing in our students in your own practice. You will collaborate with colleagues in Impact Teams and Professional Learning Networks during our dedicated Professional Growth and Collaboration Time (PGCT) on Wednesdays from 2:00-4:00 PM to ensure consistent and high-quality learning experience for all students.
This position is a full-time assignment teaching Middle School Design Technology. The AISJ Middle School Design Technology program uses the Educational Technology Standards.
The Middle School operates on an 8-period rotating block schedule, and teachers are assigned to teach 6 of 8 blocks. Each Middle School Teacher is also responsible for an Eagle Forum cohort, which is integral to the Middle School experience as well as participating in our FLEX and Club programme.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Secondary license or certification for teaching Design Technology and Robotics/Electronics code / programming
