Sanlam Life and Savings consists of the following business units Retail Mass, Corporate, Risk and Savings, Glacier and various business enabling functions. The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the four clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defense functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives.
What will you do?
Core Tasks
To provide expert legal advice and support on information technology, data protection, cyber security and digital transformation initiatives within the financial services environment. The legal advisor will manage risk, enable innovation across insurance, investment, retirement funds and other financial products.
- Draft, review and negotiate IT-related contracts including Master Services, software licensing, SaaS, cloud services, outsourcing and vendor agreements
- Advise on intellectual property rights, licensing structures and technology procurement
- Advise on data governance, cross-border data transfers, and privacy impact assessments
- Provide legal input on cybersecurity policies, incident response plans and regulatory reporting obligations
- Support risk mitigation strategies for digital platforms and fintech solutions
- Advise on legal aspects of digital products, platforms, and services including robo-advisory, mobile apps, and AI-driven tools
- Support legal enablement of fintech business transactions.
- Analyse disputes; consider, negotiate, implement and manage appropriate solutions.
- Consider practical and cost-effective alternatives, risks and trends.
- Consider short- and long-term implications of impending regulatory amendments, as well as implications for the business.
- Negotiate, draft and vet all required legal agreements including but not limited to binders, outsourcing, intermediary agreements, SLA's, re-insurance agreements, data sharing agreements, NDA's, joint venture agreements, cross-border transactional agreements.
- Research, prepare and draft legal opinions required as required.
- Assist with risk and savings and retirement fund product matters.
- Represent Sanlam at required internal and external stakeholder engagements.
- Drafting AI usage policies, monitoring usage and keeping abreast of relevant legal developments
- Providing legal advice in meetings.
- Identifying problems and providing solutions in respect of tech-related matters.
- Draft, review and vet complex legal documents, including contracts.
- Interpreting legislation and advise on the impact of legislation on the business.
- Assisting with reviewing contracts and responding to internal queries.
- Mentor junior legal advisors.
What will make you successful in this role?
Qualifications
Role Requirements:
- LLB or higher Law degree
- Admitted Attorney or Advocate
Experience
- At least 5 to 7 years' experience (3 – 5 years post admission)
- At least 3 years' relevant experience within the financial services, fintech or technology industry
- Strong background in IT contracting, data protection and regulatory advisory
- Experience in an in-house team or advising clients on technology related matters
Knowledge And Skills
- Good knowledge of legislation impacting Sanlam Life including the FSRA, Insurance Act and Prudential Standards, Retirement funds legislation, FAIS Act and Code of Conduct.
- Sound knowledge of legal research and writing of legal opinions.
- Good knowledge of litigation and ADR processes.
- Computer skills (MS Office)

- To deliver on all monthly technology governance reporting requirements for the Vodacom Group Technology Strategy and Governance department in alignment with Technology Strategy Governance Reporting processes, quality standards and the annual Technology Governance planning calendar.
- To effectively and efficiently monitor, report and highlight deviations in the execution of the Technology Strategy across the Vodacom Sub-Sahara Africa region through continuous engagement with local markets and key Vodacom Group Technology stakeholders (Group Networks, Group IT and Group Cyber Security).

- Consolidate the information into standardised reporting frameworks / templates such as the monthly Vodacom Group Exco Report and monthly TLT Dashboard which is used to monitor the execution of the Technology Strategy (includes alignment to Tech2025) across the Sub-Saharan Africa region)
- Responsible to effectively and efficiently monitor, report and highlight deviations in the execution of the Technology Strategy across the Vodacom Sub-Sahara Africa region through continuous engagement with local markets and key Vodacom Group Technology stakeholders (Group Networks, Group IT and Group Cyber Security).
- Responsible for the monthly TLT dashboard which shows progress of key initiatives (aligned to the Technology Guidance and Group Technology initiatives) with metrics / targets for each local market in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.
- Maintain the reporting governance processes and reporting calendar for the Technology Strategy and Governance team.
- Ensure timely review, approval and submission of all reporting according reporting governance processes and calendars.
- Provide Vodacom Group CTO support with presentations, reporting, and communications (internal and external stakeholders) as required from time to time by the Group CTO. Audience includes stakeholders such as Vodafone and Vodacom Exco / Boards, investors, business partners and the media.
- To communicate effectively and maintain sound relationships at the relevant levels within the Company and all other Commercial teams within Vodacom in accordance with agreed strategies with Line Management. To communicate at all levels within the organization through documented outputs tailored to the specific project/initiative, engagement, audience and desired outcome. This could include written documents, presentations, memos, reports etc.
- Minimum of B.Sc Electrical/Electronic Engineering degree/diploma or similar
5 years of experience with technical depth across both Network and IT
2 years report writing for senior management and CxO level

Automation, Internet of Things and so forth.
General knowledge of key technology concepts that impact Telecommunications and the broader ICT industry in order to provide thought leadership
- General knowledge of the Telecommunications industry environment / landscape (e.g. Regulatory, Government etc.) in order to provide thought leadership on strategic topics

Support the Africa Consulting Leader and the leadership team in the implementation of the Global and Africa Consulting strategy, providing multi-level assistance in the execution of all aspects of our "All in" Strategy.
The Strategic Projects Manager will gain exposure to all levels of the business, acting as a shadow to the Africa Consulting Leader in many cases, and dealing with senior leaders in order to execute multiple projects. He/she will be privy to strategic elements of the African Consulting business and will experience leadership decision making processes first hand. Your key responsibilities
- Responsible for all Consulting engagement on behalf of the Africa Consulting leader, including: communications, meetings, dinners, etc. This includes preparation of all materials, events and engagement activities.
- Responsible for working closely with the Internal Communications function to ensure all messaging aligns with strategic and leadership objectives and monitor quality of messages from the Africa Consulting leader to the Consulting business.
- Draft all confidential communications on behalf of the Africa Consulting Leader.
- Ensure all outputs from projects managed are of an excellent quality and consider change management implications of projects implemented.
- Develop a strong network across all levels of staff within the Consulting business.
- Work closely with the Africa Consulting Leader and leadership team to develop and implement the Global, Africa Consulting strategy.
- Identify and implement initiatives and projects relating to all parts of the Consulting strategy in a way that supports our key strategic objective of Shaping the future with Confidence.
- Project manage and offer operational and strategic support to the Africa Consulting Leader and leadership team on all Africa Consulting key priorities and initiatives on a project-by-project basis.
- Ensure management information is accessible and ensure its timely availability for reports/presentations.
- Arrange and coordinate Consulting leadership meetings and strategy sessions, including setting agendas, production of inputs, producing minutes and follow up actions from all meetings.
- Assist with the coordination of all meetings taking place in Africa by visiting Global / Super region Consulting delegates.
- Will work daily with and be counselled by the Africa Consulting Leader. Will also be of support to the Africa Consulting COO and Africa Consulting Clients and Industries Leader as required.
General
- Become involved in adhoc additional projects as required by the Africa Consulting Leader.
- Write presentations and reports for the Africa Consulting leader and leadership when required.
