We are looking for a Field Service Engineer for our Service Hub in Cape Town .
Damen Services' mission is to support Damen's sales organization in selling ships by providing additional value in the form of services. The department implements the concept of high quality and the generally higher purchase costs. By providing high-quality services even after the sale of a vessel, the chances of a customer choosing Damen again when replacing a vessel or expanding a fleet are increased. At the operational level, the Services department liaises with customers and acts as the eyes and ears of the sales organization. Services offers a broad portfolio of services for the entire lifecycle of a Damen-built vessel, including handling warranty claims, providing training, providing spare parts, maintenance, and performing modifications and repairs.
This is reflected in the behavior of its employees; they are always available, proactive, keep their promises, and always go above and beyond what is asked of them. Within the Services department, the question is always: How can we make this happen?
RoleAs a Field Service Engineer , you will carry out maintenance and repair work. You will supervise during construction and perform operational commissioning tasks. You will provide training for ships and ship systems at locations around the world, taking into account local conditions, cultures and customs, and ensure that the ships are kept in optimal operational condition.
Responsibilities- Troubleshooting and carrying out maintenance, overhaul and installation work related to mechanical, electrical engineering and process engineering on all relevant installations on both Damen vessels and other vessels;
- Supporting local shipyards in the operational commissioning of ships;
- Instructing/providing training to third parties regarding the operation, use and maintenance of ships;
- Performing administrative tasks and preparing project reports.
- Diploma Course in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (minimum of NTC3);
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the marine industry, specifically in a technical field;
- Workshop and tools skills and experience are compulsory;
- Trade Test qualification is advantageous;
- Commercial endorsements or naval watchkeeping qualifications will be beneficial;
- Codes/Licenses: Code 08 (or “B”) driving license;
- Strong fault-finding skill across all disciplines of vessel systems;
- Good verbal and written command of English;
- Independent personality with problem-solving skills and a high degree of customer focus.
