Educational:

Experience/Technical:

5+ years' experience working in yacht building environment.

Recognised yachting qualifications will be an advantage.

Super yacht working experience of onboard systems is a plus (electrical and electronic PLC system, hydraulics, water makers, air conditioning, refrigeration etc.).

Experience of High Voltage DC system (650VDC) and Diesel electric propulsion is a plus.

The Pandemic Fund South Africa Project supports the strengthening of national systems for pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. Through investments in surveillance and human resources for health, the project aims to enhance early warning systems, improve disease detection and reporting, and build capacity for coordinated emergency response. Implemented in collaboration with the National Department of Health, Jhpiego, and other key stakeholders, the project contributes to building a resilient health system aligned with South Africa's National Action Plan for Health Security.

*Role Overview *
The PPPR Technical Coordinator will lead and coordinate the implementation of activities related to Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPPR) under the WHO-funded Pandemic Fund project. Seconded to the National Department of Health (NDoH), the Coordinator will work closely with relevant government counterparts and partners to strengthen capacities for public health emergency management, surge workforce planning, and operational readiness.

This position is supported through a donor-funded project with an anticipated implementation period of three years. The successful candidate will be appointed on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, which may be renewed or extended subject to funding availability, operational requirements of the organisation, and/or satisfactory performance.
Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and coordination for implementation of PPPR-related activities in collaboration with NDoH.
  • Support the development and operationalization of the national PPPR framework, including simulations and stakeholder workshops.
  • Coordinate surge workforce planning and training in line with the Human Resources for Health Strategy 2030.
  • Assist in the establishment and functioning of PPPR technical working groups and steering committees.
  • Support integration of PPPR activities with IDSR and Event-Based Surveillance frameworks.
  • Ensure documentation of activities, reporting, and knowledge sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to development of PPPR policies, guidance documents, and operational protocols.
  • Facilitate alignment of PPPR implementation with national and WHO frameworks.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in emergency preparedness and response, PPPR, or health systems strengthening.
  • Strong knowledge of WHO PPPR frameworks, the IHR, and national public health strategies.
  • Experience working in coordination with government ministries and multilateral partners.
  • Excellent leadership, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines under pressure.

Terms of Secondment:
This position is seconded to the National Department of Health. The PPPR Technical Coordinator will report to the relevant Director or Senior Manager responsible for emergency preparedness, while receiving technical support and oversight from the Pandemic Fund Project Lead and Jhpiego's Senior Technical Advisor.
