Job Description

Main purpose of the role:

To maintain the integrity of the tax accounting function for the group in accordance with sound tax accounting principles, company policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, BCom (advantageous with hdip/honours in the field of taxation) or BAcc taxation preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant tax experience.
  • SAP ECC/ SAP 4 Hana, e-filing, easy file, advanced excel experience required.
  • Working in a corporate environment experience advantageous.
  • Mandatory in office work 5 days a week (8am -5pm) in the Cape Town office.

Key responsibilities:

(The primary tasks, functions, and deliverables of the role)

  • Oversee tax accounting administration through maintaining e-filing database, tax database, SARS correspondence register, and valid tax clearance certificates; Ensure all returns (VAT201, EMP201, ITR14, IRP6, DTR, STT and EM501) filed timeously and payments are made on time;
  • Ensure tax compliance for all entities and resolving non-compliance within 24 hours;
  • Assist with the maintenance and reporting on the Media24 Tax Group Policy and the Tax control framework;
  • Compile third party appointment compliance review and reporting;
  • Prepare monthly VAT for review including vat reconciliations.
  • Assist with preparation of income tax returns and related schedules;
  • Reconciliation of all returns on an annual/monthly basis.
  • Assist with maintenance and monitoring of freelancer compliance;
  • Assist with yearend and CbC annual reporting;
  • Provide training and support on tax updates and transactions to relevant stakeholders;
  • Liaise with and assist internal and external auditors as and when needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of SARS related communications;
  • Assist with ad-hoc tasks as required by tax manager;

The EMEA / UK&I Tax Accountant will be a key member of Numerator International finance team, reporting to the Numerator International EMEA / UK&I Regional Controller in the Control & Accounting function, but with key collaborators in the Tax team - particularly the Numerator International Global Tax Director.

You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local and regional tax regulations, handling relationships with local tax advisors, and collaborating closely with external auditors and regulatory bodies.

What You Will Be Doing In This Role

  • Coordinate and handle the work of the outsourced tax compliance provider, including preparation of documentation for tax returns, statutory accounts, sales and use tax compliance, and other tax compliance matters.
  • Be responsible for inputs into the tax compliance process from the remote controlling teams.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of tax liability and expense accounts, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Review billings, expenses and assets to guarantee detailed tax assessment.
  • Maintain and update tax calendars to meticulously track all filing requirements.
  • Be responsible for the completion of tax registrations, business licenses, and miscellaneous tax filings.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on tax issues and stay updated on law changes, providing guidance to the team.
  • Support internal and external audits, including ensuring timely clearance of auditor findings and management recommendations.
  • Serve as a liaison between the tax department and other corporate accounting functions. Drive input to special projects as the need arises.

The Capabilities Needed In This Role

  • Member of a professional accounting body, or equivalent professional qualification
  • Proven experience in accounting and tax, with significant exposure to tax compliance and management.
  • Good knowledge of local GAAP
  • Understanding of US GAAP would be desirable
  • Previous experience with Netsuite and OneStream would be desirable
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience of practical application of regulatory requirements and tax principles
  • Experience of working with an offshore transaction processing team
  • Ability to collaborate and establish relationships across the business (at all levels)
  • Attention to detail and an inquisitive nature
  • Comfortable handling key relationships with external finance parties and service providers
  • An ability to work simultaneously and effectively to progress several different tasks whilst to working to tight deadlines, including an ability to effectively prioritise
