The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting decision-making through financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting.
- Ensure adherence to tax laws, accounting standards (GAAP / IFRS), and other financial regulations.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation.
- Prepare and review tax returns, VAT reports, and other tax-related filings.
- Analyze costs and financial data to provide insights for business improvement.
- Oversee invoicing, payments, and collections.
- Identify areas for financial efficiency and implement improvements.
- Liaise with management, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, ACCA, or CIMA preferred).
- 3 – 5 years of experience in the field
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks, Xero) and MS Excel.
- Strong understanding of IFRS, GAAP, tax regulations, and financial compliance.
- Strong problem-solving and data interpretation skills.
- Accuracy in financial reporting and compliance.
- Ability to present financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.

Senior Lecturer (Grade SL) – Department of Accounting
The Department of Accounting invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team.
DepartmentThe Department of Accounting’s focus is professional Accountancy education for prospective Chartered Accountants and Tax Professionals. The Department’s BCom Accounting and the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, as well as Honours in Financial Accounting programmes, are endorsed by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). The Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation (PDipTax) is associated with the South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT). On the research front, the Department also offers post-graduate programmes to PhD level. The master’s degree in taxation is done by coursework and thesis on a part-time basis.
Main ObjectivesAll academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.
RequirementsCA(SA) in good standing at the date of application, with an intent to pursue a relevant Master’s degree, and relevant experience in the following:
- Professional experience in the application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS); or
- Teaching experience in Financial Accounting at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required on a SAICA CA-endorsed programme.
- Growing national profile in the discipline.
- Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles.
- A relevant Master’s degree would be an advantage.

My client, (multinational) is seeking an experienced accountant to build and lead a high-performing accounting team in support of the Marketing Finance function. This is a hands-on role where you will be instrumental in preparing financial statements and internal management accounts for entities operating in various commodities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and develop a team responsible for trade accounting and financial accounting tasks.
Understand, perform, and continuously improve existing processes including:
Broker reconciliations
Intercompany reconciliations
Inventory reconciliations
P&L reconciliations and investigation of erroneous trading entries
Month-end journal postings
Liaise with auditors for management and statutory audits.
Contribute to management reporting and analysis.
Build strong working relationships with internal accounting teams across global locations.
Identify opportunities for process automation and improvements.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent
Fully qualified CA(SA) with 3-5 years post-qualification experience
Leadership/management experience preferred (minimum 3 years)
Strong technical IFRS knowledge (IFRS 9, 15, 13, 16)
Keen interest in commodity markets
Excellent IT skills, particularly Excel, and interest in process automation
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage cross-functional relationships
High attention to detail, ownership, and initiative in a fast-paced environment
Advanced written and spoken English
