POSITION INFO:

The key functional responsibilities of the Transport Supervisor include but are not limited to:

  1. Checking the presentation of the driver on arrival at the DC.
  2. Ensuring the driver thoroughly completes the pre-trip truck inspection.
  3. Recording fridge temperatures on the trip log.
  4. Conducting alcohol tests on drivers and recording details.
  5. Collecting the vehicle check sheet from the driver and signing off after inspection.
  6. Issuing driver tags, probes, and bags with necessary equipment and documentation.
  7. Ensuring drivers have the correct and clean delivery equipment and uniforms.
  8. Checking that pallet labels match trolley diagrams and inspecting trucks before departure.
  9. Reporting fleet repairs needed and ensuring timely maintenance.
  10. Briefing drivers on product security, route info, safety, and performance.
  11. Implementing driver training and onboarding processes.
  12. Ensuring compliance with food safety, health, and safety policies.
  13. Managing repairs, incident reports, and vehicle cleanliness.
  14. Achieving 100% on-time dispatch and compliance with procedures.
  15. Communicating with CSR regarding late deliveries.
  16. Recording transport hours, fuel, oil, and toll expenses accurately.

The main purpose of this role is to oversee the daily operations of the logistics department, including managing transportation, dispatch activities, inventory control, and distribution. Managing workload, planning and ensuring cost-effective logistics operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end trucking operations, which include, the loading and offloading of raw materials, finished products (bagged or bulk), packaging and pallets.
  • Manage Dispatch Clerks
  • Training all new staff.
  • Ensure correct stock and quantities are loaded in accordance with picking slips.
  • Ensure stock is loaded using FIFO principles.
  • Manage Pallet return book and reporting.
  • Manage Vehicle inspections and service history.
  • Ensure all trucks are strapped and tarped.
  • Regular stock counts and reporting as required.
  • Assist with investigating damages and report accordingly to minimise/eliminate damages.
  • Ensure weekly weighbridge tests are conducted and reported on accordingly.
  • Flag Overweight loads immediately and report
  • Handle internal and external queries and resolve any discrepancies timeously.
  • Bag and Bulk TAT Reports.
  • Ensure stock is being packed, labelled stored/packed in the correct manner for batch identification and stock counts.
  • Ensure logbook is completed and checked.
  • Scheduling loads and collection of pallets in advance.
  • Issues Forklift Drivers with work scope for the shift, ensuring they are well informed and have set tasks.
  • Ensuring checklists are completed and checked, so that issues are reported immediately.
  • Housekeeping

Minimum Requirements

  • Senior Certificate
  • Diploma in Logistics and Supply Management / Relevant Diploma in Commerce.
  • Min of 2 years in a management or similar role.
  • Min of 1 - 2 years working experience in Cement or similar Manufacturing environment.
