Senior Structural Engineering Duties & Responsibilities (Structural Only)
- Structural Design & Analysis
- Lead the design of complex reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber, and masonry structures .
- Carry out advanced analysis (static, dynamic, seismic, wind loading, stability checks).
- Ensure designs comply with South African National Standards (SANS), Eurocodes, and client specifications.
- Project Leadership (Structural Scope)
- Manage structural components of multi-disciplinary projects.
- Oversee preparation of design reports, structural drawings, and technical specifications.
- Control budgets, timelines, and resources related to the structural discipline only.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Review and sign off all structural calculations, designs, and drawings.
- Enforce quality control processes in the structural team.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, ECSA code of conduct, and OH&S standards.
- Site Supervision (Structural Works)
- Conduct structural site inspections (reinforcement, concrete pours, steel erection).
- Resolve construction issues relating to structural elements.
- Approve shop drawings and structural material submissions.
- Client & Stakeholder Interaction (Structural Matters)
- Present structural design solutions and reports to clients.
- Liaise with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and quantity surveyors regarding the structural interface .
- Provide expert advice on structural feasibility, alternatives, and value engineering.
- Mentorship & Team Development
- Supervise and mentor junior structural engineers and technologists.
- Guide candidates toward ECSA registration.
- Promote knowledge sharing on new materials, structural software, and design approaches.
- Innovation & Technology
- Apply advanced software (Prokon, ETABS, SAP2000, Revit Structures, Tekla).
- Drive adoption of BIM for structural coordination.
- Evaluate innovative materials and construction methods to improve performance and cost efficiency.
- ECSA Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) in structural discipline.
- 10+ years' post-registration structural design and project experience.
- Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete and steel design (including detailing standards).
- Software proficiency: Prokon, Autodesk Robot, STAAD, Revit Structures, Tekla, etc.
- Proven experience in building structures, industrial facilities and special structures (sports complexes, community facilities).
- Track record of managing teams and signing off on major structural projects.

EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5+ years post graduate experience in consulting engineering environment in a structural engineering department/role
- Experienced in structural steel design, detailing and draughting
- Experienced in reinforced concrete design, detailing and draughting
- Liaison with other members of the project team
- BIM interfacing with architect, mechanical and electrical engineer.
- Preparation of fee proposal and interfacing with clients
- Petrochemical experience will be advantageous
- Civils experience will be advantageous
SKILLS:
- AutoCAD LT (current software version) Must be conversant with Xrefs, annotative blocks, viewports, and other features
