Core Purpose
To assist the structural engineering team by preparing accurate rebar detailing structural drawings and models conducting site inspections and compiling technical documentation. This role plays a key part in ensuring successful project delivery through precision quality assurance and effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Performance Areas
- Prepare accurate reinforcement detailing and structural layout drawings in compliance with project specifications and relevant codes.
- Use AutoCAD and Revit to develop and update models and drawings for reinforced concrete and / or structural steel components.
- Compile and maintain structural documentation including reinforcement schedules drawing registers and inspection reports.
- Ensure all documentation is properly filed referenced and quality checked.
- Liaise with engineers architects and other project stakeholders to coordinate and integrate structural detailing within multidisciplinary teams.
- Assist in responding to site queries and coordinating drawing revisions.
- Ensure all work complies with internal draughting standards engineering codes of practice and client specifications.

Qualifications:
- National Diploma (NDip) in Civil or Structural Engineering;
- Recognised Draughting Certificate or equivalent.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years’ relevant experience in structural draughting within the structural engineering environment.

WSP Africa Power and Energy teams is seeking an experienced Structural Design Engineer to join the Power and Energy team. The role involves the design and analysis of overhead transmission line structures, including steel lattice towers and monopoles, for voltages ranging from 33kV to 400kV. The successful candidate will contribute to both South African and UK-based transmission projects, ensuring compliance with local and international standards.
QualificationsQualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience in the structural design of transmission line structures, preferably within the South African and UK power sector.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software: PLS-CADD, TOWER, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000.
- Strong understanding of wind loading, conductor tensioning, and foundation interaction, with consideration for local terrain and climate conditions.
- Familiarity with Eskom grid codes, TRMSCAAC1, and SANS 10100.
- Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech Eng registration with ECSA, or actively working towards registration.
Desirable:
- Experience working on UK transmission projects or with UK grid standards.
- Knowledge of foundation design and geotechnical principles, especially in South African soil conditions.
- Familiarity with BIM and CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
