We are seeking a dedicated Procurement Specialist to manage the procurement of assigned raw material categories for the Mars Food Cape Town site. This pivotal role is responsible for leveraging supplier capabilities to advance the regional and global Food strategic agenda.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in strategic sourcing (procurement) is required.

  • Proven category management experience in procurement is essential.

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and operational processes.

What would be your key responsibilities?
  • Category Expertise: Analyze category spend, cost drivers, market trends, and supplier base to develop the most suitable sourcing strategy for packaging materials. Determine whether a regional or global strategy is appropriate. Build industry knowledge to develop cost models and execute core category strategies that enhance year-over-year productivity and improve total cost of ownership (TCO).

  • Strategy Development: Lead cross-functional teams to develop and execute category strategies using the Mars Strategic Sourcing Methodology (MSSM).

  • Supplier Relationship Management: Manage relationships with current and potential suppliers. Perform supplier segmentation and evaluate them based on quality, service, and value leadership performance. Conduct business reviews and "Top to Top" meetings as needed.

  • Value Leadership: Identify and drive cost-saving initiatives to achieve over 5% year-over-year productivity delivery.

  • Knowledge Management: Participate in external benchmarking and industry forums to gain market intelligence. Provide category input and price risk management to Cape Town site operating plans, ensuring compliance with procedures, policies, systems, and controls.

  • Simplification: Collect and analyze data to identify opportunities to reduce complexity, rationalize specifications, and optimize the supplier base.

  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align supplier strategies and timelines with business objectives. Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in local and global forums.

  • Negotiation, Tendering & Contract Management: Develop commercial models, conduct tenders, and negotiate complex deals. Manage price, supply, service, legal, and intellectual property risks in line with business priorities.

  • Risk Management & Supply Security: Forecast price volatility and define strategies to protect the business against risks.

  • Transformation: Actively participate in the Global Commercial team to identify and share best practices across regions and segments. Drive change management and adoption of new ways of working.

  • Sustainability: Collaborate with teams and suppliers to meet Mars Sustainability targets, aiming for 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging by 2025, using at least 30% recycled content and reducing virgin plastic use by 25%.

A leading global water technology company dedicated to solving the world's most challenging water issues is looking for a Sourcing Specialist to be established in Kempton Park, South Africa. The purpose of this position is to take responsibility for the full spectrum of procurement processes for Africa and Rep Offices.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain approved suppliers list for each category and ensure dual/multiple supplier sourcing with sourcing rules.
  • Develop the mitigation plan for single source spend.
  • Identify risk in a supply chain and manage programs to mitigate such risks.
  • Identify and onboard suppliers as per Procurement Policy.
  • Coordinate closely with internal stakeholders to execute Purchase Order to vendors and follow up on delivery schedule, with constructive order management approach.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of master data in ERP.
  • Analyse inventory reports and be responsible to monitor inventory replenishment process.
  • Ensure that all purchasing activities are compliant with the Procurement procedures and policies.
  • Analyse spending on suppliers and identify opportunities for productivity savings to maintain ideas funnel on continuous basis.
  • Proactively investigate continuous improvement on procurement processes.
  • Plan and execute logistics (Road, Ocean and Air).
  • Conduct and track key supplier performance, maintaining long-lasting relationships with existing suppliers.
  • Execute and drive supplier sustainability projects and reports to support responsible sourcing.
  • Define and execute sourcing plans in accordance with strategic sourcing methodology in launching RFQ and RFP process for direct and indirect procurement.
  • Negotiate price, quantity, payment terms, warranties, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
  • Work with legal counsel to ensure that all contracts relating to product procurement contain all details of the negotiation.
  • Assess quotes and compile a detailed assessment of cost breakdowns generating quote comparisons and contributing to internal supplier selection based on the quotes.
  • Provide solutions to improve and maintain vendor management resulting in the rationalisation and harmonisation of the supply base.
  • Perform any other ad hoc duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Support XGP requirements and form central point for Africa XGP process.
  • Manage GEP projects, contracts, and pricing.
  • Develop systems and processes for procurement and associated trade compliance processes.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Preferably an Instrumentation or Electronics Engineering diploma with Supply Chain / Business or related field.
  • CIPS / APICS related qualification.
  • Experience working with suppliers and conducting supplier evaluations will be an advantage.
  • 5 years proven experience in international sourcing processes.
  • 10 years solid experience in procurement and supplier relationship management (SRM).
  • Experience in metrology business or instrumentation industry is required.
  • Proficiency in SAP ERP including MRP and master data.

This career opportunity for a Sourcing Specialist: Projects is available at Santam for the Group Sourcing: Procurement department, the role is based in Bellville, Cape Town.

This role will primarily support Procurement Managers in executing procurement strategies across the Sanlam Group This role will form part of the Category Procurement team particularly in Strategic Projects, Marketing Services, Professional Services and Facilities Management.

What will make you successful in this role?
  • Classification of spend and detailed analysis of spend.
  • Development of procurement business cases.
  • Initiate procurement initiatives and development of approved category plans.
  • Sourcing and contracting management of commodities within the procurement portfolio.
  • Management of costs and achieve savings against the budget.
  • Drive strategic sourcing initiatives and show acumen towards driving new initiatives.
  • Manage supplier relationships; manage contracted database and new contracts.
  • Ensure necessary compliance processes are adhered to.
  • Manage and maintain various reporting platforms and validate system integrity and data quality.
  • Internal stakeholder management between procurement, operations/business and clients.
  • Attend and provide support in required Cross Functional Sourcing Team meetings.
  • Support the relevant procurement managers in ad hoc duties.
  • This will result in the following outcomes:
    • Cost savings
    • Providing Client Delight in terms of optimal supply of service;
    • Providing “Best Practice” procurement processes to increase efficiency; and
    • Supporting and upholding a team culture of Engagement.
Qualification and Experience
  • Member of Charted Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) with level 4/5 or equivalent CIPS is beneficial.
  • BComm (preferable) or equivalent being a Procurement Qualification with other relevant qualifications.
  • Experience in sourcing, contracting and supplier management across multiple spend categories.
  • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in procurement and/or supply chain environment (Preferable) in financial services sector or related.
