The Biostatistics Research Unit of the SAMRC is an active research entity that collaborates with health and medical researchers from the SAMRC, universities, other research institutions and international agencies. Statisticians in the Biostatistics Research Unit provide statistical support on design, analysis and reporting, to collaborative national and international projects in the SAMRC research portfolio. These range from surveys, epidemiological studies to randomised controlled trials. Statistical methodological development as well as the training and supervision of researchers and junior staff, are also key focus areas. The Biostatistics Research Unit offers a challenging biostatistics career in health and clinical research within a dynamic environment. The Unit has several methodological and application Biostatistics research areas including Bayesian and nonparametric statistics; joint modeling of longitudinal and survival data, complex survey data analyses; multivariate spatial statistics analysis; statistics for clinical trials; structural equation and latent class modelling.
Responsibilities:

The SAMRC BRU offers a challenging biostatistics career in health and clinical research within a dynamic environment. The Unit has a number of methodological research programs such as longitudinal data analysis, innovation in the design and analysis of clinical trials, and spatial data analysis. The successful candidate will have an individual research portfolio and contribute to these programs.
Responsibilities:
- Research- Peer reviewed journal articles or book chapters, technical report.
- Working on and coordinating all statistical aspects of one or more projects as study statistician.

- Lead the development and implementation of integrated macroeconomic statistical analysis frameworks by ensuring full vertical and horizontal institutional sector analysis (households, government, corporations and rest of the world), in line with the analytical premise of the System of National Accounts (SNA) and related international guidelines.
- Drive the statistical and analytical integration of sectoral macroeconomic developments, transforming complex stock and flow statistics into coherent, policy-relevant insights through reconciliation, consistency assessment and interpretive narratives that support monetary policy, financial stability and national accounts and related statistical domain alignment.
Design and apply advanced econometric, statistical and financial models to support the analysis, forecasting, benchmarking, back-testing and validation of integrated macroeconomic statistics- drawing on methods such as time-series analysis, scenario testing and structural modelling. - Co-lead the adoption and application of open-source tools for analytical application, specifically Python and R, generating deep analysis and reproducible research and actively contribute to developing and modernising analytical frameworks and workflows with efficient, code-based solutions.
