The Department of Physical Therapy in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for a two-year full-time contractually limited term appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the areas of neurological physical therapy and multi-morbidity. The appointment is anticipated to begin January 1, 2026 and end on December 31, 2028.
Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant field that is applicable to Physical Therapy by the date of the appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. The successful candidate must be a licensed physical therapist or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physiotherapists in Ontario. Candidates must have experience with evidence-informed practice and critical appraisal of scientific content as well at least 5 years of clinical experience that would enable them to teach in the MScPT curriculum. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, development of online material/lectures, and mentoring learners. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and teaching innovation and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
The successful candidate will have varied clinical experience with complex conditions and be primarily responsible for teaching within Unit 4: PHT1104Y Physical Therapy Practice III and PHT1106H Advanced Critical Thinking in Physical Therapy.
The successful candidate will engage in education leadership and scholarship that aligns with the Department of Physical Therapy’s mission and strategic plan. The successful candidate will participate in development and delivery of content, curriculum design and teaching innovation. In addition, the successful candidate will be involved in student remediation and mentoring, faculty development, community engagement, and interprofessional collaboration.
The successful candidate will demonstrate teaching excellence and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and teaching innovation through teaching accomplishments, strong teaching evaluations, awards, and a comprehensive teaching dossier that includes their teaching philosophy, instructional experience across various class sizes, curriculum development, and mentoring record, as well as strong letters of reference. Teaching-related scholarly accomplishments should be evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and endorsements by referees of high standing.
