Note: This role's key purpose is to maintain, repair and optimize plant and associated devices to maximize plant availability and product quality at minimum cost without sacrificing standards.
Key responsibilities- Provide specialist support to the shift-based teams during operations, including standby and day shift support.
- Assist as a functional expert in problem solving in support of the process artisan.
- Provide guidance and advice to shift-based teams on machine operation, fault finding, correct responses to machine failure modes and alarm management.
- Coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer of machine operation to shift-based teams.
- Participate as a functional expert in regional, central office and manufacturing systems plant optimization trials.
- Provide dotted line support to the Automation PTE and Systems team.
- Take part in maintenance planning meetings, contributing suggestions and clarifying work required.
- Carry out work during the planned maintenance window in accordance with the maintenance schedule issued by the planner.
- When scheduled work cannot be completed, feed back to the maintenance planner for direction (may involve rescheduling or prioritizing outstanding work).
- Assist fellow team members in the execution of their tasks during planned maintenance windows.
- Partake in maintenance postmortems to feedback problems, opportunities and learnings from maintenance activities.
- Partake in C&A related maintenance schedules issued by the Maintenance Planner and as stipulated by the C&A GOP.
- Carry out routine maintenance activities in accordance with the maintenance schedule; resolve problems uncovered during routine maintenance using appropriate problem solving techniques. If required, additional resources may be called in to assist.
- National Diploma/N6 in Electrical Engineering/Industrial Electronics/Instrumentation
- Electro techniques
- Trade tested
- Experience with Siemens
- PLC programming (Siemens certifications would be an advantage)
- Knowledge or experience of working in a production environment, particularly in FMCG
- Band: X

Overview & Key ResponsibilitiesThe Quality Control Technician will be responsible for performing chemical analysis of pure products and mixtures in cylinders, trolleys and liquid cylinders. Key areas of responsibility for this role would include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure continuity and consistency of analytical equipment functions at the Specialty Gas, CryoEase and Merchant Gas Laboratory at the Kempton Park Facility.
- Commission and optimise all laboratory equipment by conducting performance trials, measurement uncertainty determinations and modifications to existing analytical systems to ensure optimum service for routine Quality Control activities.
- Ensure best equipment performance and operational integrity.
- Adhere to Air Products’ safety standards and ISO 45001 requirements.
- Achieve departmental objectives and support personnel development.
- Perform Quality Control tasks and analysis at the Merchant and Vanderbijlpark Laboratory when required.
- Execute tasks according to Air Products’ Quality System procedures and work instructions.
- A National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
- Proven analytical chemistry capability.
- A minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in the gas industry.
- Good analytical chemistry understanding and ISO 9001, FSSC 22 000, ISO/IEC 17025 and GMP experience advantage.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot effectively.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, along with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
