MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Senior Solutions Design Engineer will be part of the Solution and Pricing department and will work closely with the business development and operations teams to maintain and grow the DSV Contract Logistics business. Business growth will be mainly through Request For Quotation (RFQ) and/or consultation with new and existing customers. The requirement is also to support operations to renew existing clients at the end of their respective agreements.
The individual must be comfortable working with Big Data and be able to clean, analyse, interpret the large data sets. Have a good understanding of warehouse operations and processes to calculate resource requirements and develop effective warehouse layout designs. Be able to use the warehouse and resource design outputs to cost the operation for the client. The costing entails liaising with key suppliers to obtain costs like racking, sprinklers, MHE, IT, and equipment.
MS Word and PowerPoint skills is required to package the final solutions and commercials for submission to the client.
The role is critical in the growth of the DSV Solution business units and requires attention to detail, time management and good people skill with internal and external clients
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engineered Solutions: Identify, analyse & develop value-adding solutions for current & prospective clients;
- Analysis and recommendations
- Data (analysis, comparison, sense checking, cleaning)
- Process (supporting business objectives, complete, relevant, error-proofed, measurable)
- Facilities (best practices, flow, flexibility, compliance)
- Costing Model – comprehensive use of the Solutions Costing Model
- All costing inputs to be signed off or supported by quotes,
- Effective use of programs like AutoCAD, MS Visio and Power BI, etc to ensure detailed and accurate designs for the input into the costing model.
- Develop relationships with key suppliers (racking, packaging, sprinklers, MHE etc)
- Verify all productivities used in costings
- Conduct research to ensure productivities used are in line with industry standards
- Tools: Application of the following tools and/or methodologies as appropriate and when required:
- Material flow mapping
- Warehouse and layout design
- Qualitative flow measurement
- Manning requirements calculations

- Warehouse Management Systems – knowledge of key functions and features of systems used by DSV in support of solutions development and implementations. Detailed understanding of cost implications and
- correct allocation of related costs when completing costing models.
- Business cases/feasibility studies – develop as required depending on financial investment required and risk profile. Tools and aspects to consider include ROI calculations, quantified value, opportunity for product improvements and future growth/revenue potential
- New product development – develop as required new products, tools and solutions that will enhance the Solutions business and ensure future growth. This can include but is not limited to e-commerce, automation, collaborative niche products in Healthcare & Beauty sectors and industry solutions in Automotive.
- Client Relationship management – To develop and maintain sound client relationships based on competence, respect and trust
- Sales Support – Assist with the technical and financial selling to the client with the development and documenting of proposals, response to tenders, RFQs and RFPs
- Operation Review – Evaluate operation against proposed solutions in terms of –
- Solution and Operations review (volumes, resource, MHE, process etc)

Team Responsibilities
The Solution Consulting team is responsible for providing a range of high value services to FNZ’s existing and potential customers.
This includes being responsible for the Platform configuration and running the FNZ Model Wealth Solution configuration process for new platform implementations, plus supporting sales team in winning & sizing new projects.
It also involves carrying out a variety of consulting assignments for existing customers and new customers in a variety of contexts, including proposition definition, TOM definition, Business transformation, customer training and knowledge transfer, and the definition of bespoke requirements where required for customer platform solutions.
Once business outcomes are understood from FNZ clients, these must be accurately documented and fed them into the delivery process to ensure they are easily understood and precise to deliver the right outcome for our clients.
The team also works closely with FNZ’s Business Readiness Team, Operations and Production Support teams to ensure that FNZ provides its services compliantly, reliably and to scalable once implemented in production.
Specific Role Responsibilities
Provide leadership and support for your aligned FNZ client project, building capability and providing support for more junior members of the team. Instil a spirit of continuous improvement in the team.
Work with FNZ customers & internal stakeholders to help define proposition and product requirements. Provide Market expertise as required. Be an SME in FNZ Platform functionality and apply this understanding to help customers define propositions that best utilise or enhance FNZ core platform capabilities.
Have a full understanding of a Platform Target Operating Model, including the interfaces between platform and customers operations and FNZ Investment operations. Provide advice to customers regarding best practice operating model design.
Be an expert in the Model Wealth Solution and run the MWS Configuration process for new platform implementations, capturing all customer configuration points in service configuration documents.
Document any bespoke customer requirements, be the solution owner to ensure these are met.
Provide review and quality assurance of solution documentation
Provide training programmes and knowledge transfer services for FNZ customers.
Provide consultancy services, as required, to other FNZ clients and projects.
Have a good knowledge of the regulatory environment in which the Solution Consultant operates and provide advice and guidance to customers in respect of delivering a compliant platform.

ROLE PURPOSE
Support the Sales function, with a focus and deep expertise in infrastructure models and technologies, in support of sales activities. Directly engage in sales pursuits to help shape, solution, propose and close deals, primarily as the subject matter expert leader representing the client solution point of view, while helping align the overall view of the deal from the sales, financial, business and delivery perspectives. Take responsibility for technical aspects of solutions to include such activities as supporting bid responses, product and solution briefings, proof-of-concept work, and the coordination of supporting technical resources.
Help shape, develop and maintain the company portfolio of solution offerings by understanding client and industry trends, as well as company strategy, core competencies and partner perspectives, to enable a differentiated and compelling value proposition to company target market.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and Perform Pre-Sales solutioning efforts across Sales, Pre-Sales, Professional Services and Project Office to ensure overall integrity and consistency of final proposed solution.
- Design solutions, using a combination of standard offerings and third parties, to produce proposals and associated contracts in conjunction with Practice Managers, Sales, Professional Services and Project Office.
- Translate customer business concerns and/or opportunities into technical solutions and business requirements, including leading assessments of client environment to facilitate solution scoping.
- Have a solid understanding of the competitive landscape and the ability to articulate the technical differentiation and value proposition of various Logicalis solutions.
- Contribute to post-implementation continuous improvement efforts to enhance performance and provide increased functionality.
- Lead efforts to define/refine standard offerings portfolio, artefacts and IP.
- Develop proposals and pricing models for solutions.
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts and technical architects to devise client solutions.
- Penetrate and expand accounts through sales and operational strategy sessions.

PERSON REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have excellent technical problem-solving skills, including identifying performance problems as part of the proposal scoping process.
- Must have working knowledge of ITIL processes and how to operate under structured project management, including the need for various environments, system maintenance, risk avoidance, etc.
- Ability to work closely with client, sales, senior managers, and project managers to design and assist with the implementation of the solutions and infrastructure related components.
- Must be able to work independently and provide proactive leadership and facilitation in a complex environment with multiple teams—experience facilitating client solution and proposal development sessions highly desired.
- Must have excellent written, oral communication and sales skills, including conducting presentations to teams and to customers. Must be able to break down complex technical topics into common language understandable by non-technical/business-oriented audiences.
- Must have strong desire to drive and adapt to change quickly, with ability to lead a team of individuals to include: creating an inspiring team environment, setting clear goals, delegating and motivating.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 3 years in a technical sales-related role focused on Microsoft Azure and M365, infrastructure solutions, hosting and managed services.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience designing and/or implementing integrated systems. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.
- A minimum of 8 years of Infrastructure, Networking, Cloud and VoIP professional services, support and administration.
- Experience Administering Linux will be advantageous.
QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT
We are looking for a seasoned Solutions Architectwith deep expertise across Windows and open-source environments, and a strong grounding in enterprise networking. You will be instrumental in designing, deploying, and supporting scalable infrastructure solutionsfor multiple retail clientsacross South Africa. This includes supporting environments that enable Business Intelligence (BI)and data-driven decision-making in a retail context.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure Architecture & Solutioning: | · Design end-to-end IT infrastructure solutions tailored for high-availability retail environments , including store, branch, head office, and central data centre layers.· Architect integrated solutions across Windows, Linux, networking, storage, virtualisation, and cloud platforms.· Translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure designs.· Architect environments that support Business Intelligence platforms, ensuring data pipelines, compute capacity, and integration points are reliable and performant.· Produce and maintain solution architecture documents, network diagrams, BOMs, and implementation guides. |
Networking Design & Optimisation: | · Architect and implement LAN/WAN/WLANenvironments for distributed retail environments (store-to-HQ-to-cloud).· Lead network designs using Arubaand Ciscoswitching and wireless solutions for both back-office and customer-facing networks.· Configure secure guest Wi-Fi, back-office SSIDs, captive portals, and role-based access using Aruba Central, ClearPass, and Cisco Meraki.· Support implementation of Dell Networking(N-Series, S-Series) in cost-sensitive deployments.· Optimise WAN performance across SD-WAN, MPLS, and broadband-based networks for retail branches. |
BI & Data Infrastructure Knowledge: | · Work with client stakeholders to understand infrastructure requirements for Business Intelligence platformssuch as:o Microsoft Power BI o Tableau o Qlik Sense / QlikView o Custom open-source BI solutions (e.g., Metabase, Redash) · Ensure infrastructure supports data ingestion, ETL processing, secure API access, and performance optimisation for BI workloads.· Collaborate with database teams to ensure high-performance compute/storage environments for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other DB platforms.· Support integration of BI platforms with Active Directory, secure access layers, and multi-tier application designs. |
MSP Client Engagement: | · Work directly with retail clientson infrastructure assessments, capacity planning, IT roadmaps, and BI-readiness reviews.· Assist in pre-sales and scoping activities for new client projects.· Act as a technical authority during solution delivery phases, collaborating with internal engineers and third-party vendors.· Provide Tier-4 escalation and design assurance for complex deployments. |
Technical Skills & ExperienceNetworking: | · Strong experience with Aruba Central, Aruba Instant APs, Aruba Switches(2930, 6100, 6200), ClearPass NAC, AirWave.· Hands-on with Cisco Meraki(MX, MR, MS series), Cisco Catalyst switches, and wireless controllers.· Design and troubleshooting of VLANs, STP, LACP, RADIUS, 802.1X, DHCP Snooping, Private VLANs, ACLs.· Familiarity with retail network zoning– POS isolation, guest Wi-Fi, CCTV segmentation, VOIP.· Experience with Dell Networkingfor budget-optimised switching in edge locations. |
Infrastructure & Servers: | · Expert with Microsoft Server 2016/2019/2022, Active Directory design, GPOs, Certificate Services.· Proficient in Linux administration, with scripting (Bash, Python) for automation.· Virtualisation expertise: VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, Hyper-V.· Experience with Dell EMC solutions– PowerEdge, PowerVault, PowerStore, and Unity. |

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar.
- 7+ years’ experience in infrastructure or network engineering roles, 3+ years in a solution design/architecture capacity.

- Aruba Certified Switching Associate / Professional (ACSA/ACSP)
