About the Role

As a Software Engineering Lead, you will manage and guide a diverse team of engineers, working closely with management and other stakeholders to ensure the success of your team and its deliverables. This role requires strong technical skills, good communication, and great leadership abilities. Your responsibilities include technical and administrative decision-making, performance and code reviews, mentorship, and strategic direction.

Responsibilities

Requirements

• Have experience in software engineering with leadership or mentorship experience.
• Have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Be proficient in dot net, C#, Angular, GIT including SQL and data manipulation.
• Have hands-on experience with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
• Have solid understanding of data modelling, database design, and multiple storage subsystems.
• Be able to troubleshoot complex software issues and implement effective solutions.
• Have experience managing software development projects, including planning and execution.
• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.

Job Summary

We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Assembler Programmer with deep expertise in HLASM development in z/OS environments. This role supports low-level system programming and performance-sensitive banking and insurance applications such as transaction authorization, batch reconciliation, and legacy claim processing.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, and maintain HLASM programs interfacing with CICS, IMS, or batch processes.
  2. Reverse engineer legacy assembler code for business-critical applications, e.g., payment settlement, policy adjudication.
  3. Optimize low-level routines for memory, speed, and I/O in large transaction systems.
  4. Analyze and debug system and application abends using IPCS, SYSPRINT dumps, etc.
  5. Create and maintain system exits, user exits, and assembler-based subroutines integrated with COBOL/PLI programs.
  6. Collaborate with Systems Programming, DB2/IMS teams, and Application Development for performance tuning.
  7. Ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations, e.g., PCI DSS, HIPAA.
  8. Understand mainframe architectures and system-level programming concepts to work effectively with z/OS and hardware.
  9. Design, optimize, and manage Job Control Language (JCL) for complex batch processing, data handling, and mainframe utilities.
  10. Perform system-level debugging, troubleshooting, and optimization to ensure stability and performance of assembler-based applications and mainframe systems.
  11. Work closely with cross-functional teams including system analysts, application developers, and operations teams to understand requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and implement solutions.
  12. Create and maintain clear technical documentation, including code comments, system diagrams, and user guides.
  13. Provide essential production support for mainframe environments, including participating in production support rotations, diagnosing, reproducing, and resolving customer issues.
  14. Ensure code compliance with organizational standards and best practices for security, performance, and maintainability. Adhere to security, control, and change control processes.
  15. Provide support for batch cycles, weekend releases, and financial year-end processing.

Additional Key Skills and Experience

  1. Experience with COBOL or other mainframe languages.
  2. Strong working knowledge of IBM MQSeries for messaging and integration.
  3. Familiarity with mainframe automation tools or ITIL processes.
  4. Exposure to modernization projects, e.g., re-engineering or re-platforming mainframe workloads.
  5. Understanding of Agile methodologies and DevOps for mainframe, e.g., Endevor, Git, Jenkins for z/OS.
  6. Knowledge of IBM z/OS internals, storage, and file systems like VSAM, zFS, etc.
  7. Experience in problem diagnosis, dump reading, and debugging with IPCS is a plus.
  8. Knowledge of REXX.
