Based in Johannesburg or Cape Town, Embedding Impact seeks to fill the following vacancy: SENIOR CONSULTANT: SOCIAL IMPACT MEASUREMENT & MANAGEMENT

This exceptional, well-grounded team player with strong leadership abilities will be responsible for private and public sector client advisory and consulting on impact management solutions. The work includes, but is not limited to, developing and implementing impact strategies, and measuring and managing impact performance. Team responsibilities entail driving project progress for client delivery and managing a team of consultants and graduates.

A strong detail-orientation, as well as data analysis and management skills are key for any applicant to be considered. Experience in Monitoring & Evaluation, Social Impact Management and/or Sustainability would be advantageous. A solid competence in quantitative assessment and reporting is essential. Experience in the mining sector would also be advantageous.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Execute and manage day-to-day activities of Social Impact Management projects, including supporting teams technically and managerially to ensure high quality deliverables to the client;
  • Measuring and evaluating the impact of projects and programmes including materiality, stakeholder mapping, development of impact frameworks and reporting;
  • Manage a team of consultants and graduates;
  • Provide input to Partners on the strategic direction of the business;
  • Undertake necessary research to support consulting practice;
  • Manage impact information and databases relating to internal and external projects;
  • Leadership and management of team productivity for successful client delivery.

Minimum Requirements:

  • An exceptional team player and natural leader with an executive presence and a high level of self-mastery;
  • Strong emotional intelligence and an ability to engage confidentially with high level professionals and executives, particularly from the mining industry;
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree – Preferably in either of these fields: Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), Statistics, Commerce, Sustainability, Development Studies or other relevant fields; Studying towards a Master’s Degree in Development Studies, M&E or Sustainability would be advantageous;
  • 5-7 years of experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection, activity monitoring and evaluation, data analysis, and report writing is essential;
  • Strong focus on delivering tangible quantitative analysis and deliverables;
  • Ability to multi-task and work in demanding area with little need for management supervision or intervention;
  • Excellent project management skills and experience in managing a project end-to-end;
  • Demonstrable experience in managing a team to deliver on a project;
  • Experience participating in the collective coordination of the work of the team by contributing to setting priorities, motivating self and others, and resolving team conflicts;
  • Ability and willingness to work in an entrepreneurial environment (small organisation) preferable;
  • Possess a valid SA driver’s licence (And has functional and independent driving experience);
  • Willingness to travel.

The Haven Night Shelter Organisation’s method is to offer social work services, rehabilitation opportunities, family reunification services, physical care and support to adult people living on the streets who are committed to reintegration.

The Haven Night SHELTER ORGANISATION, NAPIER STREET, GREENPOINT requires the services of a DYNAMIC SOCIAL WORK SUPERVISOR who will report directly to the CEO.

The Social Work Supervisor will assist in supervising Social Workers; Social Auxiliary workers and Community Development workers working at partner NGO’s that will be based at the Head Office, 2 Napier Street, Cape Town.

NGO’s funded by the Families program of the Department of Social Development make use of supervision services provided by The Haven. These NGO’s focus on family reunification services, physical care, and support to families with the focus on preventing disintegration of family life and reunification of families.

The role of the Social Work Supervisor is for the improvement of the lives of the people whom these NGO’s serve. Effective functioning of the social work aspect is pivotal to the success of the organisations fulfilling its Mission and reaching its objectives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: -

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with SACSSP in South Africa.
  • Seven years’ work experience.
  • Code 08 driver’s licence (non-negotiable).
  • Ability to work well with people as a team.
  • Computer literacy – MS Outlook, MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Experience in the NGO sector will be an advantage.
  • Training or experience in Supervision will be beneficia.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and advise social workers, social auxiliary workers and social worker volunteers to ensure an effective social work service for the Organisations. Be a resource to others and an advocate in the Sector for best practice in social reintegration and strengthening of families.
  • Professional and general supervision of the Social Work staff assigned to you.
  • Quality control of the work delivered by supervisees
  • Advise supervisees with regard to all aspects of the work.
  • Manage performance and assist with conduct and discipline of supervisees.
  • Debrief and support supervisees to manage occupational stress and related issues to promote a sound and effective social work service.
  • Ensure that all supervisees are trained and developed to be able to deliver work of the required standard efficiently and effectively, by inter alia, mentoring and coaching. This includes continuous professional development activities as prescribed.
  • Ensure that the requirements as stated in the Transfer Payment Agreements, organisational directives and third-party contracts relating to social work are met and correctly reported on to the stakeholders.

Requirements :

  • Matric plus NQF level 7/ bachelor’s degree in development work social sciences or relevant qualification, coupled with 5 years’ experience at a middle/senior managerial level in the Public Service. Furthermore, the recommended candidate will be required to produce his/her SMS Pre-entry certificate as offered by the National School of Governance (NSG) prior to the appointment being made. Competencies: Financial management, knowledge of Community Development work, relevant legislation & policies, programme management, integrated approach to service delivery, computer literacy, planning, team development, decision making, presentation, leadership, Community Development, networking, communication, organizing, controlling, research. A valid drivers’ license.

Duties :

  • Customise the CDW national Policy Framework to an Implementation Plan for (CDWP). Manage the establishment of Provincial and District Forums for co-ordination and implementation of CDWP. Provide functional linkages between the national offices (DCOG & DPSA) and the Provincial stakeholders in all aspects of CDWP within Gauteng. Manage all developmental aspects of the CDWP in accordance with the policy framework and standard guidelines. Provide guidance and advisory services to Municipalities for the implementation of CDWP within Gauteng. Manage processes for identification of potential operational risks and obstacles to develop appropriate solutions and proactively report deviations, trends, and problem areas to the CDW National Coordinators Forum (NCF). Ensure analyses of consolidated provincial reports and provide recommendations thereon. Manage, monitor, and evaluate the functioning of CDW programme in the province. Manage the broad recruitment standards and implementation framework for the CDW programme. Procure necessary human, financial, equipment and other resources. Establish and maintain appropriate control mechanism. Ensure principles of CDWP in Gauteng and policies are implemented within a structure framework by both spheres of government and other relevant local governance structures. Facilitate implementation of partnership framework within local government to effect systematic operation of the CDW programmes. Ensure increasing response to community needs and effective implementation of development initiatives emanated from CDW operations. Manage the development of a memorandum of understanding between stakeholders (municipalities, government departments and local governance structures) and the DCOG. Manage the implementation of the CDWP in line with National, Provincial and Local Government access strategies. Ensure effective linkage of citizens to government programmes, projects, and services. Manage the alignment of the CDWP with other government programmes i.e. Public Participation, LED and GCIS. Manage the implementation of the CDW Information Management System. Manage the provision of support to mobile platforms for CDW’s. Manage the process of the provision of CDW resources in close proximity to community clustering areas. Develop realistic and cost-effective operational deliverables and milestones to meet deadlines. Manage the compilation and the implementation of strategic business plan and operational plans. Manage HR related matters and budget.
