We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Shift Leader to provide strong technical leadership and direction to a team of artisans and technicians. You will be responsible for ensuring all maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on time, while driving continuous improvement and minimizing equipment downtime.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and run an efficient maintenance operation to meet operational and production targets.
  • Achieve zero breakdowns weekly and reduce production downtime.
  • Perform and supervise scheduled, routine, and preventative maintenance to minimise unplanned stoppages.
  • Diagnose and repair breakdowns quickly to maximise equipment availability.
  • Record and document all maintenance work, equipment history, and recurring issues.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to resolve technical problems and develop action plans.
  • Manage tools, spares, and maintenance budget effectively.
  • Set and monitor KPIs for artisans and technicians, coach and mentor the team, and encourage innovative solutions to unique challenges.
  • Apply technical expertise to support plant operations and troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSH Act and regulatory requirements.
  • Compile weekly reports on artisan utilisation, department expenditure, and maintenance performance.

Qualifications / Minimum Requirements:

  • N6 with Trade Test or technical diploma/degree (Fitter, Electrical, or Millwright) with completion of a formal apprenticeship.
  • Minimum 10 years’ artisan experience with proven leadership skills.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including reading schematics and using test equipment (multimeters,oscilloscopes).
  • Solid understanding of maintenance principles, technical manuals, blueprints, and safety regulations.
  • Proficient in maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility to move freely within a manufacturing environment, including climbing ladders and bending.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30kg occasionally.
  • Good manual dexterity, vision, and hearing for technical work and equipment inspection

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Supervision: Lead and manage the melting personnel on shift. Monitoring and improving production efficiencies, managing cycle times and ensuring production targets are met. Motivate and encourage the team and foster teamwork.
  • Quality and Continuous Improvement: Maintain the integrity of the ISO 9001 system. Ensure policies and procedures are followed, and where applicable, ensure continuous improvement is applied through controlled management of change.
  • Technical and Operations: Guide the team on best practices relating to charging, operating and tapping furnaces. Oversee furnace and hadle relining activities ensuring operating conditions remain safe and within performance expectations. Monitor the movement and handling of charge materials.
  • Reporting and Communications: Prepare and submit shift reports and necessary department documentation. Maintaining effective communication with other supervisors, departments, and management.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in foundry melting operations.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • A senior certificate or N3 as (minimum), physical metallurgy qualification or similar (desired)with strong mathematics and problem solving and reasoning ability.
  • Computer literate.

Our Client is looking for a Laboratory Team Leader who will be part of an effective team that interacts with multifaceted parts of the organization, including but not limited to Quality Control, Sample Management, Lab Compliance, and Lab Services.

This position is responsible for maintaining a high level of quality assurance and quality control in accordance with the Quality Management System by performing analytical services to satisfy the client’s needs in accordance with the requirements of the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority.

This role will be responsible for supervising the operating activities of the laboratory and prioritizing workload to ensure customer service levels are met. This incumbent will also be responsible for site management of the shift team to ensure efficient and effective operations of the laboratory, as well as to meet reporting deadlines on the various types of samples/commodities submitted to the laboratory for analytical evaluation while ensuring confidentiality of results.

Duties & Responsibilities

PRINCIPLE DUTIES

  • Ensure and assist in performing analytical tasks as assigned to shift team as per relevant Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures of the laboratory.
  • Perform analysis of samples as per Good Laboratory Practice, Good Manufacturing Guidelines, and applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and provide analytic input into laboratory operations.
  • Calibrate apparatus using applicable standards according to the calibration program in the laboratory compiled by the Laboratory Supervisor as per applicable SOPs.
  • Prepare, calculate, and report raw analytical data according to ALCOA+ guidelines (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate, and Complete).
  • Maintain the Quality Management System in the laboratory according to Good Documentation, Manufacturing, and Laboratory Practices.
  • Prepare reagents correctly and accurately according to SOPs and applicable methods, documenting all relevant details.
  • Optimize laboratory equipment by minimizing re-runs and additional tests.
  • Perform method verification, validation, transfer, and technical projects in collaboration with Technical Team.
  • Conduct cross checks of analytical results as required by the Laboratory Management.
  • Perform Technical Reviews of analytic results as required by the Laboratory Management.
  • Execute laboratory chores and duties as per laboratory duty list and reasonable requests by management.
  • Assist in operational planning as required by Laboratory Management.

Laboratory Team Leader The Laboratory Team Leader position will be part of an effective team that interacts with multifaceted parts of the organisation, including, but not limited to Quality Control, Sample Management, Lab Compliance, and Lab Services. This position is responsible for maintaining a high level of quality assurance and quality control, in accordance with the Quality Management System, by performing analytical services to satisfy the client’s needs in accordance with the requirements of the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority. This role will supervise the operating activities of the laboratory and prioritise workload to ensure customer service levels are met. This incumbent will also be responsible for site management of the shift team to ensure efficient and effective operations of the laboratory, as well as to meet reporting deadlines on the various types of samples/commodities submitted to the laboratory for analytical evaluation and ensuring confidentiality of results. Duties & Responsibilities Ensure and assist in performing analytical tasks as assigned to the shift team as per relevant Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures of the laboratory. Perform analysis of samples as per Good Laboratory Practice, Good Manufacturing Guidelines, and applicable Standard Operating Procedures. Troubleshoot and provide analytic input into laboratory operations. Calibrate apparatus using applicable standards according to the calibration programme in the laboratory compiled by the Laboratory Supervisor as per applicable SOPs. Prepare, calculate, and report raw analytical data according to ALCOA+ guidelines (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, Accurate, and Complete). Maintain the Quality Management System in the laboratory according to Good Documentation, Manufacturing, and Laboratory Practices. Prepare reagents correctly and accurately according to SOPs and applicable methods, documenting all relevant details e.g. reference method, measured p H, temperature, etc. Ensure optimisation of laboratory equipment by keeping re-runs and additional tests to a minimum. Perform method verification, validation, transfer, and technical projects in collaboration with the Technical Team. Perform cross checks of analytical results as required by the Laboratory Management. Conduct Technical Reviews of analytic results as required by the Laboratory Management. Perform laboratory chores and duties as per laboratory duty list and reasonable requests by management. Assist in operational planning as required by Laboratory Management. Review and write SOPs in collaboration with the QA team. Train other analysts on SOPs and Laboratory techniques. Maintain productivity in the laboratory in line with set lead times and key performance indicators. Participate in laboratory safety procedures as required by management. Follow any other reasonable instructions given by management or the employer from time to time. Ensure shift handover is performed at the start and end of every shift with key issues clearly identified and prioritised to the previous/next shift and recorded in the Shift Logbook to ensure all tasks are completed within the required deadlines. Review outstanding work with respect to customer deadlines and prioritise activities of the shift team to meet customer expectations. Regularly review workload during the shift with respect to analytical test deadlines and use the information to prioritise activities of the shift team.
