PURPOSE: This position exists to assist the site manager to ensure the efficient operation of the plant against set objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. SAFETY:

• Maintain FAMP safety policy and procedure requirements.
• Promote safety performance.
• Do planned task observations.
• Conduct safety meetings.
• Ensure team members wear PPE.

• Ensures production targets are met.
• Monitors plant performance to obtain optimum production.
• Advise on requirements of process spares.

• Train and develop team members. Maintain discipline in the plant.

• Completes all reports regarding safety, production, personnel, quality control, and maintenance.
• Completes required ISO documents.
• Maintaining staff training records.
• Ensure disciplinary records are up to date.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Grade 12/N3
• COMPSOC
• SAMTRAC or equivalent
• Diploma in Safety Management would be an advantage.

EXPERIENCE:

• 5 years' experience in mining/construction as Plant attendant/Junior plant operator/Plant operator.

• Matric
• Diploma in Safety Management / SHEQ or related
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a SHEQ Officer role
• Experience in a Pharmaceutical environment will be advantageous
• Knowledge and understanding of the OHS Act and Environmental Management
• Experience in Accident & Incident Investigation, Hazards Identification and Risk Management
• Must be PC literate in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Oracle or related ERP system

• Coordinate the implementation of the safety, health, environment and quality programme for Peakers Operations.
• Understands and adheres to all SHEQ Guidelines and Procedures. Strives to maintain an injury-free environment;
• Assist with interpretation of OHS Act, NEMA and related legislation.
• Maintaining high housekeeping standards.
• Review and update relevant safety and hygiene procedures, critical task procedures and management directives.
• Review hazardous chemical information and personnel safety and recommend amendments.
• Investigate and report the root causes of accidents and incidents and where appropriate identify and instigate any corrective actions or control measures.
• Delivers Departmental Safety, Visitors and Contractor inductions and maintains records;
• Implement and maintain contractor management protocols in the GR02
• Interpret and apply all group rules and standards to Peakers Operations.
• Distributes HSE bulletins and updates HSE communication boards;
• Implement safety awareness campaigns.
• Assists with organizing safety meetings, toolbox talks, Worker Representative Teams and Departmental Committees;
• Regularly checks SHEQ Systems through regular inspections and audits.

Job Purpose : To ensure compliance with Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality standards in a shipyard / marine engineering environment.

The SHEQ Officer will actively monitor, implement, and enforce SHEQ policies and procedures to support safe and sustainable shipyard operations, in line with South African legislation and maritime industry standards.

1. Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and other applicable South African legislation.
2. Monitor implementation of ISO standards.
3. Conduct risk assessments, HAZOPs, and site inspections in high-risk marine environments (dry docks, welding areas, shipboard access).
4. Lead incident / accident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring corrective / preventative actions are implemented.
5. Deliver SHEQ training, toolbox talks, and safety inductions to all levels of personnel.
6. Maintain SHEQ documentation and audit records for both internal and external audits (including SAMSA requirements).
7. Liaise with subcontractors and ensure their compliance with site safety rules.
8. Assist in compiling Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and monitor environmental controls (e.g. waste disposal, noise, emissions).
9. Monitor PPE compliance, permit-to-work systems, and confined space entry controls.
10. Act as the primary contact during emergency responses and safety drills.

1. National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or related field.
2. Minimum 5 years of SHEQ experience in shipyard, marine, or heavy industrial sectors.
3. Professional registration with SACPCMP (advantageous).
4. In-depth knowledge of South African SHE legislation.
5. Experience with ISO standards implementation and auditing.
6. Working knowledge of shipyard operations, including welding, painting, confined spaces, lifting, and marine engineering risks.
