Role Description

This role is technical in nature and is responsible for deploying high quality and timely hybrid and cloud infrastructure solutions and to ensure the availability, stability and performance of the platforms.

This position is part of the CIO department and reports to the regional Head of Cloud Infrastructure Management

Specific Role Responsibilities

Design: Ensure that hybrid and cloud environments are designed to best practice standards for resilience and availability to ensure the highest SLAs are maintained.

Automation: Build infrastructure deployment code and pipelines to enable the automated deployment and management of infrastructure in the cloud and on-premises.

Availability : Ensure that uptime SLAs are met every month for cloud infrastructure solutions that you are responsible for, by managing and resolving issue logs; lifecycle management of deployed infrastructure solutions.

Performance : Ensure that performance SLAs are met every month for cloud solutions that you are responsible for by monitoring systems, network performance, capacity and growth; suggesting and implementing performance improvements.

Information Security : Ensure that the cloud environments are internally and externally secure by following existing policies and procedures and documenting for audit purposes as required; implementing security controls and remediations; completing risk assessments and build guides for new and existing systems. Align the environment to the Group’s security standards.

Systems Resilience : Ensure that cloud environments are secure and backed up by ensuring that regular backups are made and are tested. Participate in yearly BCP & DR tests. Ensure that cloud management is in line with company requirements and departmental policy for resilience and availability. Document and keep solution design, business continuity plans and standard operating procedure documents up to date.

Training : Develop professional and technical knowledge and skills. Provide technical advice and mentoring within the team.

Project Work : Implement new projects to meet project timelines. Work in a matrix structure with multi-national teams.

Budget : Recommend changes that could reduce costs in your areas of responsibility.

This role is crucial in driving secure infrastructure automation, enhancing platform resilience, and supporting secure modern application deployments. Youll work at the intersection of DevOps and security (DevSecOps), ensuring that security is embedded across all stages of the software development lifecycle.You will bring hands-on experience with Nutanix Calm, Kubernetes, and Docker, with complementary skills in Microsoft technologies, SQL Server, and security automation practices.

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Design and manage automated blueprints and runbooks using Nutanix Calm.
• Build and secure Kubernetes clusters for container orchestration and microservices.
• Develop and harden Docker containers with security best practices (e.g., minimal images, signed images, vulnerability scanning).
• Integrate DevSecOps principles into CI / CD pipelines to shift security left.
• Automate security controls and compliance checks using tools like Fortinet, Trivy, or SkyFlow.
• Collaborate with development and security teams to embed policy-as-code, secret management, and role-based access controls.
• Ensure secure configuration of infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• Monitor and alert for anomalies using Zabbix, complemented by logs and audit trails.
• Manage Windows Server, Active Directory, and SQL Server with attention to patching, access control, and backup security.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and secure backup strategies.
• Support incident response, vulnerability remediation, and compliance audits.

Experience And Skills Requirements :

• Honours degree in information technology, information systems, computer science or related fields.
• 35 years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or security-driven infrastructure automation
• Practical knowledge of Nutanix Calm and Prism Central
• Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker, and container security
• Familiarity with DevSecOps tooling and practices (e.g., dependency scanning, static analysis)
• Scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or Python
• Experience with CI / CD pipelines in GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins with security gates
• Understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, SQL Server, and basic networking
• Hands-on experience with monitoring and alerting tools like Zabbix
• Basic network troubleshooting; CCNA is advantageous.

• Security-conscious problem solver with an automation-first mindset.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively across Dev, Sec, and Ops teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication, especially in documenting secure practices.
• High attention to detail with a drive for compliance and operational integrity.

• Nutanix NCP or Calm certification.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or Pulumi.
• Exposure to cloud security in Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments.
• Awareness of container runtime protection and zero trust architectures.
• Experience working in regulated industries such as insurance or finance.
• Familiarity with IS27001, NIST CSF, or other security frameworks.
• POPIA and Joint Standard.
