We have a vacancy to join Healix International in our Cape Town office as a Management Accountant. This role will be focused on the Healix International Group of Companies who provide medical and security assistance for those travelling abroad. We now have a vacancy for a Management Accountant who will be responsible for preparing monthly management accounts to deadline.

We are looking for a personable and friendly individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with:

  • 2+ years management accounts or general accounting experience
  • Previous management experience
  • Good bookkeeping skills and a high level of accuracy
  • The ability to work efficiently and to strict deadlines
  • Exposure to working with foreign currencies

About The Role

Key activities/main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Posting all necessary month end adjustments and oversee other aspects of the month end process – e.g. bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations etc.
  • Preparing monthly management accounts using our project, business unit & department structure.
  • Reconciliation of spending with budget as part of job costing
  • Overseeing payment runs where we are entitled to prompt payment discounts to ensure that we meet the requirements
  • Resolving queries with our customers and medical providers
  • Posting and reconciling the monthly payroll.
  • Completing GST returns for various entities
  • Carrying out continuous reviews of working accounting practices and processes to ensure efficient and cost effective operations
  • Liaising with external accountants and tax advisors as required to support compliance and reporting.
  • Raising sales invoices and process relevant associated journals to recognise income.
  • Assisting with posting and reconciling of multiple bank accounts.
  • Adhering to and enforce accounting process disciplines and manage responsibilities to strict deadlines.
  • Preparing and assisting with reports required by the business.
  • Maintaining an accurate and efficient filing system.
  • Working closely with other finance and non-finance members.
  • Fulfilling ad-hoc duties as they arise from line manager or other member of senior finance management team.
Skills Needed Required Criteria

POSITION OBJECTIVES

  • Support the Group CFO and Financial Controller to ensure the integrity of financial systems and information, while ensuring that the Group Companies are compliant with all legislative requirements;

KEY RESPONSIBILITIY AREAS

Management Accounting and Reporting

  • Preparing appropriate, accurate, timely and relevant Management Accounts, within a pre-defined format for detailed review by the Financial Controller.
  • Review and analyze all inputs to the Pack. Provide variance analysis and commentary in support to the Management Information Pack, incorporating notes and updates as directed;
  • Continually adapt and improve management reports as agreed with the Financial Controller;
  • Perform key balance sheet and income statement reconciliation tasks, journal postings, monthly accruals, and provisions;
  • Address any inaccuracies or differences regarding the source data to ensure accuracy, quality, and completeness of all incoming data;
  • Working closely with a shared services transactional team to ensure all transactional records are appropriately maintained; accurate, up to date and processed in accordance with Group control guidelines.
  • Prepare the general ledger asset accounting functions;
  • Business analysis on specified areas including routine matters;
  • Produce ad-hoc management reports;
  • Other ad-hoc duties as prescribed by the Financial Controller to assist in achieving the Shared Services Finance Department objectives;
  • Participation in the Company’s year-end process and production of the Annual Financial Statements e.g. control of year-end cut-offs, ledger balancing, loan account and investment confirmations, account analysis and summaries, asset reporting and budget variance reporting;
  • Liaising with the auditors as required; and

Budgets and Planning

  • Assist the Financial Controller in providing support and advice to the Group in preparing forecasts and budgets within the prescribed timelines;
  • Liaise with management of the subsidiaries and associates on their performance against budget and provide financial advice on budget control and forecast outcomes; and
  • Participate in the CAPEX process.

Corporate Governance; Risk Management and Company Secretarial

  • Develop and manage financial systems and policies to ensure compliance with good corporate governance and legislation; and
  • Implement risk management and internal controls.

General

  • Formulate and implement processes and perform tasks to ensure overall tax compliance of the Group;
  • Managing daily banking and cash requirements for the Group;
  • Monthly Payroll Administration functions;
  • Provision of back-up support when other finance staff are on leave; and
  • Other duties as required by the Financial Controller.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS; COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE

Essential Skills

  • Substantial (Min 5 years) accounting experience in a busy, progressive, and tightly managed business;
  • Previous experience in handling international accounting preferably in a shared services environment;
  • Extensive experience of computerized accounting and reporting systems;

  • Highly proficient Microsoft Office user with Advanced Excel skills

Management Accountant
Location: Cape Town - Office Based - Foreshore. Hours 09h00 - 18h00 (to align with Head Office in Berlin).
Company: The role sits in Shared Services within a well-established and extremely successful international private investment firm with Head Quarters in Berlin and California and offices in several countries around the world.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties:
  • Preparing appropriate, accurate, timely and relevant Management Accounts
  • Reviewing and analysis
  • Adapt and improve management reports
  • Balance sheet and income statement reconciliation tasks, journal postings, monthly accruals, and provisions;
  • Address inaccuracies
  • Prepare the general ledger asset accounting functions;
  • Participation in the Company’s year-end process and production of the Annual Financial Statements
  • Liaising with the auditors as required
Budgets and Planning:
  • Assist in providing support and advice to the Group in preparing forecasts and budgets within the prescribed timelines;
  • Engage with management of subsidiaries on performance against budget, provide financial advice on budget control and forecast outcomes
  • CAPEX
Corporate Governance; Risk Management and Company Secretarial:
  • Develop and manage financial systems and policies to ensure compliance with good corporate governance and legislation
General:
  • Develop and implement processes and perform tasks to ensure overall tax compliance of the Group;
  • Managing daily banking and cash requirements for the Group;
  • Monthly Payroll Administration functions;
Essential requirements:
  • Min 5 years accounting experience in a busy, progressive, and tightly managed business with a focus on Management Accounting;
  • Previous experience in handling international accounting preferably in a shared services environment;
  • Extensive experience of computerised accounting and reporting systems;
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS
  • Highly proficient Microsoft Office user with Advanced Excel skills
  • Bachelors degree in Finance
  • CIMA qualification
