We are seeking a Learning & Development Specialist who will design, implement, and monitor structured training initiatives for both our internal staff and our external literacy Programmes. This is a dual-focus role that will help employees thrive in their roles while ensuring high-quality, standardized training delivery to strengthen literacy outcomes nationwide.

Role and responsibilities:

HR – Internal Learning & Development (50%)

Learning and Development Strategy Implementation

  • Roll out Nal'ibali's Learning & Development strategy in line with organisational priorities.
  • Design and implement policies and frameworks for internal learning.
  • Align training plans with workforce planning and performance management.
  • Engage leadership to ensure buy-in for L&D initiatives.
  • Translate organisational goals into measurable training outcomes.
  • Create a 3–5-year Learning and Development roadmap to support growth.
  • Benchmark Nal'ibali's training practices against NGO/education sector standards.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning across all levels.
  • Develop annual Learning and Development budgets and manage expenditure.
  • Provide input to HR policy updates relating to staff development.

Training Coordination & Facilitation

  • Source, assess, and contract reputable training providers.
  • Schedule training sessions across departments with minimal disruption.
  • Facilitate selected in-house training (onboarding, soft skills, leadership, compliance).
  • Manage logistics for both virtual and in-person sessions.
  • Provide guidance to managers on training requests.
  • Develop training evaluation tools (surveys, feedback forms).

Programmes – External Capacity Building (50%)

Training Design & Standardization

  • Develop, review, and standardize training toolkits and materials.

  • Collaborate with content experts to adapt literacy training.
  • Localize training materials for use across provinces.

Requirements (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Education, Training & Development, or a related field.
  • At least 3–5 years' experience in an L&D, Training Specialist, or Capacity Building role.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in at least one additional South African language an advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems advantageous

KEY PURPOSE
The vacancy is for a

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct training needs analyses to identify skills gaps.
  • Design and update training programs in various formats (in-person, online, blended) to suit diverse learning styles
  • Align training with performance and talent management frameworks.
  • Facilitate leadership initiatives like mentoring and succession planning.

Required Qualifications:

  • ODETDP Diploma and registered Skills Development Facilitation (SDF)
  • Facilitator and Assessor (EDTP)
  • OPETDP Diploma and Registered SDF.

Required Experience & Knowledge

  • 8+ years in L&D, ideally in a fast-paced environment like retail or hospitality.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and e-learning proficiency.

Job description:

The successful candidate will create strategies to improve the skills, productivity, quality of work performance of employees. To establish the training and development needs of the employees, promote training initiatives that build employees effectiveness. This role will also have a critical reporting function to relevant statutory bodies, SETAs, and internal HR governance structures.

Responsibilities:
  • Effective Operational Cost Management - Provider management
  • Setting up of Preferred Training Provider Library
  • Partner with Training providers to develop suitable content
  • Creating training materials and programmes to address specific business objectives
  • Identify and support training needs within the company and assist with relevant training solutions

This is a full-time on-site role located in South Africa, for a Learning and Development Specialist at Custom Connect. The Specialist will be responsible for Skills Development, Trainer and Content Design.

Qualifications

  • Assessor and Moderator Certification (COMPULSORY)
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in training facilitation and skills development
  • Strong understanding of learnerships, SETA compliance, and ATR/WSP submissions
  • Experience in training content design and delivery
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills (Excel, LMS, SharePoint)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple training projects simultaneously

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Maintain and update the L&D Utilization Tracker weekly (trainers, NHT, upskills, learnerships).

  • Track and report on overall attendance for NHT and nesting groups weekly.
  • Maintain LMS enrolments (Moodle) and learner tracking.

  • Provide administrative support to trainers (logging IT tickets, room readiness, resource planning).
