Main Purpose of the Job
Provide support for all the existing activities of the unit with specific reference to epidemiological and biostatistical support, research, building surveillance programmes, teaching and training nationally for government and private entities.
Key job responsibilities
■Provide epidemiological and biostatistical support for all activities of the section with specific reference to developing workplace health policy, systems and programmes for Occupational Health. ■Play a lead role in the development, planning and implementation of Occupational health
research programmes/ projects in the Workplace for the public and private sectors to ensure the efficient delivery of health and safety programmes for the workplace in accordance with best practices and increase the body of scientific knowledge. ■Strengthen systems and programmes for epidemiological applications with specific reference to surveillance and research. ■Train the appropriate audiences i.e. health professionals and employers, and employees to ensure capacity development, including the development of CPD programmes in order to enhance the general
awareness and transfer skills. ■Provide formal supervision and training of postgraduate students (Master's and PhD if applicable) for surveillance and epidemiology, and contribute to teaching activities within the section. ■ Generate reports, interpret data and provide analyses to ensure that
accurate data is available for trend analysis and management decisions. ■ keep up to date with relevant, current and emerging research, methods and technologies to ensure personal growth and development, perform appropriate research and publish in relevant scientific journal ■Lead the writing and submission of scientific papers and presentations to relevant scientific meetings on occupational health and surveillance research projects as well as assist in grant writing and securing funding for surveillance and research projects.
Minimum requirements & key competencies
■ MSc/ MPH in Public Health and / or MPH Field Epidemiology or relevant equivalent ■ PHD (Desirable). ■Minimum 5 years' post qualification experience in the field of epidemiology. ■Minimum 3 years' experience in research and data analysis. ■ Publication of at least 1 first author peer reviewed manuscript ■Valid driver's licence. Knowledge of and insight into research methodologies, data analyses and interpretation. ■General management and administration. ■Teaching and Training in occupational health. ■Expert knowledge of epidemiology and qualitative research methods. ■Sound knowledge of statistical packages preferably, SAS or STRATA: Excel. ■Good scientific writing skills. ■Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to process scientific and medical data. ■ Ability to work independently. ■Ability to identify data issues, present problems and implement solutions. ■Capability of communicating technical concepts clearly, concisely and understandably. ■Good leadership, organizational and time management skills with ability to multitask. ■Strong interpersonal skills and presentation skills. ■Ability to effectively collaborate across cross functional teams.

Background
An implementation study on the dapivirine vaginal ring (DVR) was conducted in South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Uganda and Eswatini. The study generated quantitative data on uptake, adherence, and user experiences. We are seeking a qualified Biostatistician to support data analysis for an implementation study on the dapivirine vaginal ring, a long-acting biomedical HIV prevention method. The consultant will analyze quantitative data on uptake, adherence, and user experiences, producing report and publication-ready results to inform regulatory, policy and programmatic decisions.
Scope of Work
· Review study protocol, objectives, and datasets.
· Develop and finalize a statistical analysis plan (SAP).
· Clean and merge datasets
· Conduct appropriate statistical analyses, including descriptive, inferential, and multivariable analyses
· Provide guidance on data quality, management, and handling of missing data.
· Generate report and publication-ready tables, figures, and outputs.
· Contribute to interpretation of findings and drafting of results sections for reports and manuscripts.
· Participate in virtual meetings with the study team as needed.
Deliverables
· Finalize statistical analysis plan.
· Clean and merge datasets
· Write reproducible code (Stata/R/SAS preferred) and conduct appropriate statistical analyses.
· Comprehensive results tables and figures (report and publication ready).
· Analytical report summarizing findings.
· Contributions to reports, manuscripts, policy briefs, and presentations as needed.
Qualifications
· Advanced degree (MSc) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or related quantitative field, PhD preferrable.
· Demonstrated experience in analyzing implementation science or public health studies.
· Proficiency in Stata, R, or SAS.
· Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications or reports.
· Familiarity with HIV prevention research and/or women's health interventions desirable.
· Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Level of Effort & Duration
Estimated 12 days per month (3 days/week) over 12 months (with flexibility based on agreed scope) from 01 November 2025 to 31 October 2026. Remote, with communication primarily via email/virtual meetings.
