We are seeking a talented Senior Data Scientist / Data Scientist with a passion for working with generative AI models such as large language models (LLMs) to join our team. What You'll Do:

Position Overview : LJI adopts a data-centric and evidence-based approach to all aspects of our work. For our anti-trafficking program, we collect, verify, and analyze data about victims and suspected traffickers, using our own software, which helps to provide insight into traffickers’ strategies and to evaluate our work. For our children’s ministry, we implemented a comprehensive assessment strategy, aimed at measuring 14 different developmental outcomes in our children, including academic performance, emotional stability, and pro-social behavior, comparing them to control groups in Nepal.

The primary duty of the Data Scientist is to bring scientific and statistical methodologies to bear on the evaluation and execution of key program strategies. The Data Scientist will report to the President. The position is based in South Africa. All candidates should be willing to travel one to two months per year (spread over multiple shorter trips).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Help build and continually improve predictive assessments used for hiring in a variety of positions
  • Finding ways to objectively measure the positive outcomes in children in our homes against the wider population.
  • Helping us maximize the effective and intelligent use of statistical tools in analyzing our anti-trafficking data and migration survey data in order to help us more effectively prevent human trafficking and lead people toward safe and prosperous foreign employment.
  • Using scientific and mathematical tools to optimize decision-making and policy formulation in all areas of our work.

Job Overview
As part of our Data Science team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including DataOps Engineering, to extract meaningful insights from large and complex datasets, develop visualizations to communicate these insights, provide data-driven recommendations to measure impact and improve services, and contribute to new machine learning and AI initiatives. Job Overview
As part of our Data Science team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including DataOps Engineering, to extract meaningful insights from large and complex datasets, develop visualizations to communicate these insights, provide data-driven recommendations to measure impact and improve services, and contribute to new machine learning and AI initiatives. The Machine Learning Engineer (ML Engineer) is a subject matter expert, tasked with participating in the adoption of deploying machine learning models, data science and analytics within the organization.

The primary responsibility of this role is to participate in the creation and delivery of data-driven solutions that add business value using statistical models, machine learning algorithms, data mining, and visualization techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, and programs methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.

  • Accountable for performing analysis using programming languages or statistical packages such as Python, Javascript, etc.

  • Accountable for creatively visualizing and effectively communicating results of data analysis, insights, and ideas in a variety of formats to key decision-makers within the business.
  • Creates SQL queries for the analysis of data and visualize the output of the models.
  • Creates documentation around processes and procedures and manages code reviews.
