Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

-As our Protection Officer of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Consistently apply safety principles in all interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Provide specialised close protection services to senior managers, executives, and VIP visitors by ensuring their safety and security.
  • Respond tactically to security incidents, criminal activity, or alarm activations to prevent harm to the organisation or its people.
  • Conduct preliminary crime scene investigations to ensure proper scene preservation, interview witnesses, take statements, open investigation dockets, and maintain case books and exhibit registers according to the best industry practices.
  • Manage high-risk crowds and control riots during labour or civil unrest incidents to protect company assets, employees, and reputation.
  • Prevent criminal activities by performing vehicle-based patrols of high-risk areas, observing duties, setting up roadblocks, assisting security officers during peak hours by searching people and vehicles, and conducting prohibited substance testing.
  • Conduct security audits and surveys to identify potential security threats and compile detailed reports to mitigate those risks.
  • Represent protection services management after hours or when directed, ensuring that all security-related issues are managed efficiently and effectively.
  • Outputs:
  • All executives, VIP Visitors, and senior managers are secured per the Protection Services Operational Plan.
  • Response time, number of thefts prevented, and arrests made.
  • Quality of investigation dockets and investigation administration.
  • Number of resolved cases.
  • Damage and loss of company property and employees were minimised during the unrest.
  • Frequency of inspections and irregularities detected.
  • Adherence to the inspection schedule.
  • All inquiries were resolved satisfactorily.

This role is in SHEPS & Contractor Management (SHEPS&CM) department on a band 8.7 level reporting to the Security Operations Supervisor

Qualifications

  • -Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4)
  • Security-related National Certificate (NQF4)
  • Security-related Higher National Certificate (NQF5) Advantageous
  • Registered with PSIRA as a Grade B Security Officer
  • Firearm Competency (including SAPS competency)
  • Basic Investigations Course
  • SA Drivers Licence
