Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain secure network architectures (LAN, WAN, VPN)
• Configure and manage routing, switching, and wireless infrastructure
• Manage and secure FortiGate firewalls and related network security systems
• Provide 3rd line technical support for complex networking and security issues
• Ensure high availability (99.8% uptime) and proactive system maintenance
• Monitor network performance and conduct vulnerability assessments
• Maintain accurate documentation including network diagrams and configuration standards
• Support and maintain Windows Server 2016/2019 and Exchange hybrid environments
• Administer Office 365 and Microsoft Azure environments
• Implement and manage Veeam Backup & Replication for disaster recovery
• Support external SFTP environments and domain/DNS management
• Support endpoint security via Kaspersky Security Centre

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• Matric (Required)
• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field
• CCNA certification (Required)
• FortiGate certification (Advantageous)
• Must have a minimum of 5+ years as a network and security engineer
• Strong experience with routing, switching, FortiGate firewalls, and security best practices
• Background in cybersecurity and infrastructure management
• Good understanding of Microsoft technologies and cloud platforms (Azure, O365)

Replicate the actual techniques and tools used by malicious attackers in an effort to model potential external threats. WHAT YOU’LL DO (AND LOVE DOING):

• Monitor and protect fibertime’s networks, systems, and data from internal and external threats.
• Design, implement, and manage firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and other security technologies.
• Lead incident detection and response efforts, including root cause analysis and remediation.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits across infrastructure and platforms.
• Define, document, and enforce information security policies and procedures.
• Work with engineering and IT teams to embed security into design, deployment, and operations.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., POPIA, ISO 27001).
• Raise internal awareness around cyber hygiene and provide training where needed.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

• 5+ years of experience in network and infrastructure security.
• Strong hands-on experience with enterprise firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and SIEM tools.
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, and subnet-level security.
• Proven track record of incident response and security operations.
• Experience in securing cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, CompTIA Security+, GIAC) are preferred.
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills

Responsibilities

• Provides day-to-day support for firewall engineering and operation tasks and level 1 & 2 on-call technical support for the Firewall Engineering and Operations team, including assisting peers with issues and escalation.
• Supports the implementation and ongoing operations of network access control devices to include firewalls and SSL VPN devices.
• Work collaboratively across a variety of business units to implement new technology, support existing, and at times do so after normal business hours.
• Build and configure solutions in the development, test, and production environment, including documenting the security infrastructure and design
• Manage problems, maintain vendor relationships, and assist operations with vendor escalation and issue resolution.
• Facilitate device refresh of network security devices with a focus on capacity, manageability, and security of new and existing security infrastructure.
• Participate in team on-call coverage rotation
• Design, deploy and support enterprise-class Fortinet and SSL VPN devices.
• Design, deploy and support Firewall
• Complex troubleshooting to include network protocol and log analysis, raw data captures, and the correlation of disparate events spanning multiple devices and platforms.
