To provide support to the IT Security Department by ensuring IT audit readiness, continuous compliance, and effective remediation of audit findings by coordinating, tracking, and reporting on all IT-related audit issues. The IT Security Assistant will support the IT Security team in monitoring, maintaining, and improving the organization's information security posture. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

- Liaise with IT managers for input from their respective technical teams to validate resolution of findings and closure of audit points within deadlines.
- Draft formal remediation plans and motivations for deferred/accepted risk findings.
- Facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) for repeat or high-risk findings.
Risk & Control Improvement
- Work with Audit, Risk and Governance teams to embed control improvements across IT functions.
- Recommend control design enhancements and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Support IT risk assessments such as Regulatory, Group and Third-Party questionnaires, including risk identification and mitigation tracking.
- Keep abreast of latest legislation, regulations and governance requirements relevant to ABL.
Policy & Framework Alignment
- Support the alignment of IT controls with corporate governance frameworks like COBIT, ITIL, NIST, TOGAF and ISO/IEC 27001.

IT Security Support

Duties and responsibilities:
- Develop and ensure implementation of service standards for technical security services.
- Monitor and evaluate multiple contractors' performance, enforce service levels, and address non-compliance.
- Oversee contract renewals and cost-benefit analysis to ensure the sustainability of technical security infrastructure for all long-term contracts.
- Align contract planning with institutional annual funding and strategic priorities.
- Develop project briefs and technical scopes, including the approval of project planning before execution.
- Lead and coordinate the development of business cases relating to technical security services.
- Manage Technical Security projects through the full lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring & control, and closure.
- Develop and manage security system design and installation projects from concept to commissioning.
- Develop and draft technical specifications, drawings, and enforce technical specifications and compliance checklists for all security systems.
- Establish requirements for security systems, viz, video surveillance, motion detection, facial recognition, CCTV cameras, etc., to ensure installation and operation.
- Ensure the integration of security systems, technologies and the activation of Artificial Intelligence capability across the institution's security infrastructure.
- Manage server infrastructure, network, data archiving and monitor infrastructure systems health.
- Develop and enforce access control policies aligned with university risk profiles and operational needs.
- Conduct routine audits and maintain servers and workstations, ensuring uptime and data integrity and provide engineering solutions.
- Approve card applications and manage access profile requests in accordance with departmental requirements and authorisation levels.
- Provides inputs towards the budgeting process, assumptions and forecasts aligned with operational needs.
- Manage staff in accordance with the UFS HR policies.
- Manage procurement processes for the Technical Security Services section.
Inherent requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or an advanced diploma/BTech degree/postgraduate certificate on NQF Level 7 or a three (3) year National Diploma on NQF Level 6 in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- Valid PSIRA Grade B registration (attach a copy) or undertaking to obtain the registration within six (6) months after appointment.
- A valid code 8 driver's licence (attach a copy).
- Minimum of four (4) years' relevant working experience relating to the duties and responsibilities.
Recommendations:
- Higher education sector experience.
- Avigilon and any other recognised CCTV cameras certification (attach proof).
- Project Management certificate (attach proof).
- Registration with a professional body such as Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)(attach proof).

KPA / Main Outputs and responsibilities for this position
Crime Prevention and Risk Management (Financial Focus)
Crime Prevention
Report your presence to SCC, immediately after you arrive at the station;
Attend and inspect the parade and record such attendance on Cyber Incidents Information Management System (CiiMS). Register penalties for non-conformances to the Security Services Agreement;
Ensure that guards are deployed according to the station risk management;
Report the complement to SCC before 06:30 and second report before 07:30 in the mornings and before 18:30 and second report before 19:30 in the evening.
Visit guards three times (x3) and complete the guard visit checklist.
Inspect the BOC 15 and guard booth registers;
Inspect the station for theft, damage, doors left opened or unlocked, SAMS and focus on the followings:
- Technical rooms,
- Bare or visible cables;
- Security and/or emergency doors;
- Fire extinguishers
- Diesel tanks
Inspect the functionality of the radios and the available number against the issued number to the station. Report shortages and damages to the Station Head.
Identify or anticipate risk, put mitigations in place, record on CiiMS and report it to the Station Head;
Ensure qualitative reporting to SCC and on CiiMS of
- Security incidents
- Events, such as emergencies, strike, drills, evacuations and so forth.
- Infrastructure damage and request MAXIMO
Visit and inspect the rail reserve to prevent damages, vandalism, theft and illegal entry.
Open cases with SAPS for crime committed within Gautrain System
Monitor overcrowding at station platforms
Report all incidents that need management attention to your Station Head and SCC.
Inform Station Head and/or SCC of your lunch time;
Receive, record and lock away lost and found items after recording on the both the register and CiiMS immediately after receipt. Items must be placed in a seal bag and locked in a lost and found cabinet if they fit;
Monitor Mobile Teams in the trains as the train passes or turn at your station.
Lost and found items reported to you by passengers or any other person should be reported to SCC or directly to the Mobile Team for tracing of the item.
Register all security incidents and relevant associated information for reporting purposes on the CIIMS;
Record and keep diary/record of all crime incident /major event which include strict adherence or lack security rules and regulations whilst handling crime incident;
Complete a handover checklist, which includes all equipment on hand, reporting on the critical factors regarding the current shift for briefing for the incoming shift.
Security Systems (Processes and procedures)
Do Alco test to all staff and contractors during your shift and ensure that people testing positive are not allowed into the BOC/Gautrain Premise. Record and report such incidents;
Report lights that are not working at the stations, lifts and escalator faults to SCC/OCC.
Inspect the ABLOY Electronic Key Management System wall reader if is functional and complete the checklist.
Take charge of key management System to ensure the safe keeping and movement of all the keys kept at station.
Implement and surrender the work permit for the station.
Inspect and replenish where appropriate the first aid box.
Report & Coordinate (Leadership)
Do handing over at the shift change by completing the hand over checklist and inspection of all items at the security office.
Attend to security complaints and address it or refer to your Station Head. Keep record on CiiMS for such complaint.
Enforce Gautrain Rules by completing or issuing the penalty notice and record it on CiiMS;
Direct any passenger that wants to pay the penalty fine to the ticket office and update CiiMS;
Redeploy of resources as per operational requirements;
Attend to health and safety issues of the passengers and contact SCC for ambulance services. Cordon off the area according to the dictate of the situation.
