Duties & ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:
- Responsible for client account maintenance which comprises of account opening, closure, as well as amendments.
- Creation of Market and Service watches for clients.
- Assist SSH and Product Manager (PM) with the maintenance and improvements of the Market Profile, Service Profile, Risk Map, Holiday calendar, etc., for clients.
- Help SSH and PM with administrative tasks that aid in revenue and cost management.
- Assist PM with client requests.
- Assist SSH and PM with audit queries.
- Alert SSH and PM of events that may create or increase risk.
- 1-2 years practical work experience in Securities Services.
- University degree.
- Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.

JOB PURPOSE
To join a leading, top ranked, high-energy Equity Research Franchise in a junior analyst role, assisting the lead analyst in the sectors of PGMs, Gold and Oil and Gas. Develop sector coverage over time with the opportunity to develop into a lead role within the bank.
The ideal candidate must have very strong numeracy skills, be highly analytical, self-starting, creative and good at developing and presenting a view. Strong excel skills and attention to detail are critical. Being able to cope in a high-pressure environment will be essential.
A successful execution of the job steers client trade and a commission stream via the dealing platform of the broker. This advisory function is fulfilled through regular publication of investment ideas, company and sector updates, marketing of ideas and the organization of conferences and other corporate access activities. In addition, we anticipate that an analyst builds a network of executive contacts and, within the global regulatory framework, generates observations and ideas that may assist the primary capital teams of the bank.
Essential Functions
- The role will include responsibility for the broader bank’s PGM commodity forecasts, requiring global supply & demand modelling and PGM commodity pricing estimates.
- Assisting the Sector Head in conducting new and innovative research, assisting in publication of regular product and new thematic reports, updating and maintenance of existing models including sourcing new data sets.
- Attend roadshows alongside Sector Head including attendance to company results, corporate meetings and site visits.
- Complete and respond to ‘bespoke’ and ad-hoc client requests.
- Oversee the day-to-day activities of the research department, ensuring accuracy of work and that research content is marketable and actionable.
- Regularly and timeously write insightful and impactful research that results in a product suite that encompasses sector and company notes, thematic and periodical publications, comments on news-flow and its impact of share valuations.
- Develop skills and knowledge base to a point where the analyst can initiate coverage of relevant and commercial number of stocks in the allocated sectors.
- Market the investment ideas to domestic and offshore based global investors. Marketing consists of face-to-face road show meetings, conference calls, tele-marketing, etc.
- A combination of the above is expected to result in a measurable progression of an Analyst franchise (= own and broker/bank brand combined) with institutional investors as measured in the customary broker performance reviews and external broker surveys.
- Inform and work with Sales and Trading, within compliance framework, to optimise the marketing and execution of investment ideas.
- Pro-actively pass interesting and commercial ideas on the counterparts in CIB for instance in ECM, DCM, M&A and broader corporate finance functions.
- Develop a sector coverage and product strategy to effect, establish and grow a leading research franchise.
- Oversee coverage of relevant commercial stocks in the allocated / targeted sectors and companies to maintain up-to-date market data, knowledge of current events and to identify key developments.
- Oversee the development of commercial and differentiated research reports / publications, and monitor the process of analysis and recommendations to ensure consistent quality deliverables.
- Oversee the distribution of research product/ commercial ideas to counterparts in Corporate Investment Banking (CIB) e.g. ECM, M&A and Coverage and broader corporate finance functions to generate leads.
- Oversee the organising of conferencing and corporate access calendars in order to provide corporate access to link executives of corporations and other decision- and opinion-makers to investment managers.
- Plan, direct and present analysis to demonstrate and enhance the value of CIB Equity Research ideas to existing and prospective clients.
Qualifications

IntroductionWe are currently hiring an Investment Analyst to join the KZN Regional Office team on a 12 months fixed-term contract. In this role, the Analyst will perform financial and commercial assessments as well as provide recommendations and comments to Investment Associates and the Regional Manager on all areas of transaction execution.
ResponsibilitiesResearch, Analysis, and Preparing Research Reports
- Conduct research and gather data using reliable sources of information.
- Analyse and prepare reports on findings and make recommendations.
- Contribute to the development of a business development strategy when required for the portfolio companies.
- Develop a broad knowledge of corporate finance/private equity macro environment, sector, and specific transactions to support the team in identifying and recommending appropriate mitigation measures on key risk issues for portfolio companies.
Report Writing
- Evaluation of new deals from Pre-Investment for potential investment and prepare the early review report or decline within.
- Perform desktop financial and commercial assessments and provide recommendations and comments to Investment Associates.
- Analyse, compile, and report on market information on a deal-by-deal basis.
Financial Modelling and Preparing Financial Analysis
- Building financial models according to NEF financial modelling methodologies standard models.
- Provide comprehensive financial analysis through the use of approved financial modelling for existing portfolio companies.
- Analyse financial information relating to specific companies, e.g., company results, profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements to determine the commercial viability of portfolio companies.
- Consider the economic implications which might affect the performance of portfolio companies.
- For additional funding and/or restructure, partake in due diligence exercises at the request of the team member, using approved processes and principles as outlined in the due diligence scope.
- Provide commentary on innovative/optimum/appropriate finance and legal structures for each investment deal ensuring long-term sustainability/viability of the project to the benefit of the client and the NEF.
- Analyse equity valuations of portfolio companies semi-annually.
- Conduct annual site visits to investee portfolio companies.
- Early identification/flagging of potential areas of defaulting clients.
Experience / Skills Required
- Minimum of 1 - 2 years in financial analysis or similar experience in the corporate finance/Banking/DFI environment.
- Experience in deals assessment and ability to apply financial modelling methodologies.
- A generalist in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), franchise, procurement, and entrepreneurship finance areas.
- Understanding of the NEF mandate and investment guidelines.
- Possess good analytical and modelling skills.
- An expert analyst demonstrating high command of the abilities required to perform the role.
- Ability to apply NEF processes with the ability to move beyond the standard process with help to produce highly insightful diagnoses.
- Able to identify important issues and highlight them to the team for consideration.
- Good at knowledge gathering, finding additional relevant information from unusual sources.
- Can develop good, actionable recommendations and a strong contributor in discussions on investment implications.
- Structures own work and meets/exceeds all commitments and targets.
- Participation in team problem-solving and contribute to team effectiveness.
- Willingness to travel.
