About the role
We are looking for an exceptional Mathematics Teacher (Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels) at Ormonde Secondary School. Resident teachers lead instruction and planning for subject or grade level classrooms and are responsible for driving a rigorous, enquiry-based learning environment the Nova Pioneer way. Resident teachers are supported by Deans of Instruction who partner with them in their growth journey by observing lessons, providing feedback, and coaching. Resident teachers support and mentor-apprentice teachers.
Key responsibilities for the role include:
- Deliver exceptional, real-world, enquiry-based Mathematics lessons that align with the Cambridge Mathematics curriculum requirements
- Prepare students to sit for IGCSE, AS, and A-level exams.
- Deliver impactful and engaging enquiry-based lessons supported by technology to enhance instructional delivery
- Observe, coach and be a model teacher for new teachers
- Infuse joy and passion for learning into lessons so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence
- Set and communicate rigorous and ambitious goals for all students and provide student feedback so they internalise it
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress
- Use assessment data to adjust instructional content and delivery techniques accordingly
- Attend weekly feedback meetings with Deans to enhance teaching practices
- Fully participate in opportunities for professional growth including daily team meetings and reflections, weekly professional development meetings, instructional coaching, and organisation-wide learning and reflection
- Communicate regularly with parents through email, telephone and parent-teacher conferences
- Contribute to and participate in co-curricular programming for at least one activity in the course of a term
- Participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees, fulfil supervision duties as assigned including occasional morning, evening, and weekend events
About You
Skills and Qualifications required:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or a similar degree plus a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is ideal. A Physics qualification will be an added advantage.
- You have taken a Mathematics major (including Statistics) to the third year level at university
- You have taught Maths at the senior school level (Grade 8 – 12 experience) for at least 2 years
- Experience and/or understanding of the Cambridge or IEB curriculum objectives is ideal
- SACE registered
- Ability to lead a classroom independently
- You love teaching and care deeply about the success of each and every student
- You have an understanding of and passion for enquiry-based, student-centred learning
- You have a deep understanding of children, and you know how to connect with the specific age group that you teach
- You are a team player,r and you enjoy group problem-solving
- You are adept at using technology for instruction

Nature & Scope
The Paraeducator II works with a variety of student with disabilities and/or needs ranging in age from five to twenty-one years in various educational locales such as school environment, specialized classrooms, the community, differing work settings, and on the bus. The incumbent functions independently for significant portions of the day performing work with students and providing supervision, life skills training, and direct instruction under the direction of the Teacher for student with a wide range of disabilities and/or needs. At times this work is under the direct watch of the Teacher, and at other times the work is physically removed from the Teacher. The nature of the work follows established classroom and school procedures as well as District and state regulations. The incumbent interfaces and problem-solves with students, teachers, administrators, department colleagues and parents. The interaction with students can be high- stakes and occasionally hostile or volatile, which requires a significant degree of professional and technical acumen. Because this job involves continuous interaction with students, the position requires a high level of professional decorum, calm, and ability to act as a role model to young people. The incumbent does not have adult supervisory responsibilities, but may provide guidance and assistance to regular or temporary employees, as required.

- Prepares, administers, and scores various tests and assignments as directed, including proficiency placement tests.

- Explaining and demonstrating the preparation for work (ie, time card, uniform, required equipment) and the nature and method of work.
- Assists in the development of transportation plans for students to travel to and from job site; including training for students on pedestrian skills and traffic-related safely.
- Supervises progress and focuses on the development of independent improvement skill and employee relations.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties using basic office equipment, computers, word processing software, spreadsheets, classroom software, and classroom computer programs:
- Ordering, preparing, administering and correcting instructional materials.
- Generating computer documents and duplicating materials.
- Preparing lists and other documents, processing forms and applications.
- Maintaining student records and files, as directed.
- Assembling materials, preparing individual profile charts, accounting for students.
- Notifying the teacher or administrator when making phone calls of a general nature to parents.
- Compiling information and materials and preparing reports as requested.
- Taking attendance when on outings or activities to ensure proper supervision.
- Works with accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines.
- Understands and executes oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality.

- Complies with all procedures outlined in the Code of Professional Conduct and Annual Notices for Education Practitioners, Teachers, Support Staff, Administrators, Substitutes Handbook, other Beaverton School District policies and procedures, and all required District and department training.
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess an Associate’s degree, preferably including coursework in working with children in an educational setting.
- In lieu of Item 1 above, must possess both of the following:
- High school diploma or GED, and
- Passing score on a qualifying state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics. (In order to qualify, this assessment must meet the requirements of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Information about qualifying assessments is available in the Human Resource office.)
- Must earn a District approved Oregon behavioral intervention training certificate, without restrictions, prior to starting work, and maintain an active certificate thereafter.
- Must possess an understanding of child development principles and practices. Training and/or experience in instructional techniques and behavior management and modification, with disabled children and/or adults desired.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment.
- Must be able to collect data and perform basic mathematical functions.
- Must be able to communicate in written and spoken English with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as computer, word processor, calculator and photocopier.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license.
