We are hiring for a new senior leadership role in the Talent Science team to lead on delivery excellence. You will work directly with the Global Head of Talent Science and the people managers in the team. With overall accountability for project delivery relating to hiring outcomes you will deliver against strategic objectives, driving efficiencies and creating new processes whilst coaching and developing team members to grow their careers.

You will bring an analytical and objective approach to work and be seasoned in making data driven decisions relating to talent outcomes. Your experience will include being able to drive complete project roadmaps, experience interacting with senior leadership on talent related topics leveraging your thought leadership experience and the ability to influence and steer talent agendas internally. You will be capable of stepping up to lead the function when required. Experience of working with career frameworks and hiring outcomes is an essential requirement of this role.

Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region.

The role entails

  • Leading and delivering the strategic Talent Science project roadmap using exceptional project management capability and influencing skills to manage multiple projects at any given time
  • Leveraging expertise from your career to date to design and implement solutions to complex problems that ultimately ensure we hire exceptional talent
  • Ensuring all talent selection initiatives map to high performance outcomes and career frameworks
  • Designing professional processes and frameworks while working closely with our management, allowing efficient delivery of our agenda
  • Coaching and mentoring team members to grow and develop skill sets specifically around analytical capabilities and thought leadership, developing training materials and documentation to support team members
  • Driving and representing the team in the absence of the Head of, acting as a credible and trusted adviser and an inspiring leader
  • Working closely with company leaders to understand, appreciate and communicate our vision for talent at Canonical.

What we are looking for in you

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university, with an undergraduate degree in a psychology or people based subject
  • A track record of team leadership within the technology or consulting industry, with exceptional project management, to lead roadmap delivery and product development
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor a team to deliver exceptional results
  • Deep understanding of selection, career frameworks and building internal products to ensure that talent selection criteria matches desired outcomes
  • Advanced analytical ability to dissect and analyse data using SQL, Python and statistical analysis
  • Exceptional written and spoken English with strong presentation skills for a senior audience
  • Ability to travel internationally 4 times a year for company events

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To facilitate teaching and learning in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to contribute to the administration of the department as needed, and to undertake research.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Develop course material for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching modules.
  • Attract external funding and provide research supervision to postgraduate students.
  • Provide expertise in Computational Mathematics (Numerical Analysis, Optimisation).
  • Perform teaching-related and departmental administrative duties.
  • Conduct research and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Supervise postgraduate students and provide research mentorship to junior staff.

Requirements

Associate Professor

  • Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. degree relevant to the field of Applied Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant working experience, with an academic related profile. This includes lecturing experience at all levels.
  • Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision and throughput.
  • Evidence of participating and or leading in a research team or project.
  • Evidence of research publications in some national and international accredited conferences and/or DHET accredited journals in related fields.
  • Evidence of leadership ability.
  • A comprehensive CV must accompany the application, together with a letter motivating why the candidate should be considered for the post.
  • Candidates may be required to deliver a short lecture on an approved topic.

CORE PURPOSE:

To provide Academic Leadership across a range of Undergraduate/Postgraduate education programmes.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

· Module Coordinator for area of specialisation (SME)

· To facilitate face-to-face and online lectures

· Develop, review and moderate curriculum and assessments

· Provide Academic consultation support

· Grade assessments and provide stakeholder feedback

· Undertake programme and module reviews

· Active involvement in research and publishing

· Identify students at-risk and execute pastoral care

· Undertake programme and quality management administrative tasks

QUALIFICATION(S): EXPERIENCE:

· 3 - 5 years academic experience

· Demonstrate research engagement over the last 3 years

· Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methodology knowledge and experience

RELATED KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

· Be familiar with higher, distance and online education

· Be familiar with using learning management systems

· Have a working knowledge of the South African Higher Education Regulatory Framework

· Must be able to work within pre-determined time frames and deadlines

· Must be able to speak confidently and demonstrate professionalism

· Must be a collegial team player

· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Internet and Email)

· Excellent writing and reporting skills

· Possess a high level of ethics and confidentiality
