Main purpose of position
Currently we are looking for a SCADA Engineer in Cape Town, South Africa, to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our SCADA Engineer, you will take ownership of SCADA operation and function, ensuring smooth integration between sites, grid operators, and central monitoring office.
Main responsibilities
- Specify the minimum requirements and specifications related to the SCADA system and communication network
- Conduct due diligence investigation on relevant technologies to ensure risks and opportunities are identified during the design phase
- Identify all communication interfaces, IP lists, and protocols for the project and utility interfaces
- Involved in SCADA hardware design reviews, technology selection, FAT, SAT, and site commissioning
- Implement signals, analogues, alarm updates, and general configuration of the Company SCADA software platform
- Ensure correct implementation of the design
- Ensure the needed Cyber security requirements are aligned with the company requirements
- Update SCADA and communication as-built drawings to ensure alignment between site implementation and drawings
- Provide EPC with lessons learnt for future projects
- Grid Code Support - signal point to point testing and SCADA functionality testing for plants in construction and operations
Qualifications and competencies
- B. Eng in Electrical Engineering
- MCSE, N+, CCNA or relevant IT qualification advantageous
- Minimum 5+ years' relevant experience within the areas of Communication Network Design and SCADA implementation
- Experience with commissioning of communication networks and SCADA software
- Experience with reading and understanding technical diagrams and drawings
- Work experience in the power generation in advantageous
- Sound IT and network knowledge
- IT Infrastructure or operations management experience
- Networking including IP and other protocols (DNP3, Modbus, Serial, IEC61850)
