Job Overview

The Solution Specialist is an Information Technology employee that is responsible for understanding the business process requirements for certain functions in the business and for the design, configuration, deployment and maintenance of system-based solutions that will meet the needs of the business client.

These employees configure new system functionality, but they are also responsible for maintaining, updating and troubleshooting existing system functionality. The main focus for Solution Specialists is the SAP system, and in some instances the Clients global systems and other local systems.

This job forms part of the Information Technology division and job incumbents work across several teams aligned to business functions. The work that these employees perform has an impact on business continuity.

Resource in this team will report to Senior Manager IT: Solutions for a specific area of focus.

Key Responsibilities

Business Requirement Analysis

• Engage with business stakeholders to understand reporting and analytics needs.
• Analyse existing data flows, BW models, and reporting tools to identify improvements.
• Collaborate with business users to validate and enhance Business Requirement Specifications.
  
  

• Design robust SAP BW data models (InfoObjects, DSOs, InfoCubes, CompositeProviders, etc.).
• Develop new process chains, transformations, and data flows using SAP best practices.
• Create detailed Functional and Technical Specifications.
  
  

• Configure SAP BW (on HANA or traditional) components to support enterprise data warehousing.
• Integrate data from various SAP modules (e.g., FI, MM, SD, PP) and external sources.
• Support enhancements and custom development for reports and KPIs.
  
  

• Design and maintain ETL processes using SAP BW tools and interfaces.
• Monitor and optimize data loads, ensuring data accuracy and performance.
• Resolve data issues and identify trends to improve reporting efficiency.
  
  

• Support frontend tools such as SAP BEx, BW Queries, and integration with SAP Analytics Cloud, Power BI, or other reporting platforms.
• Enable self-service reporting by building user-friendly data models and templates.
• Collaborate with business intelligence teams to deliver dashboards and visualisations.
  
  

• Plan and execute unit, integration, and user acceptance testing.
• Manage defect tracking, resolutions, and documentation updates.
• Ensure proper system handover and training to users prior to go-live.
  
  

• Monitor SAP BW performance and proactively address system issues.
• Provide 2nd/3rd level support to users and resolve incident tickets.
• Maintain accurate and updated documentation for all BW models and reports.
  
  

• Act as a key contact point for business units on SAP BW reporting and data-related matters.
• Communicate changes, system downtime, and new features effectively.
• Build strong relationships across IT and business teams to align goals.
  
  

• Analyse system usage and identify opportunities to streamline reports and data models.
• Stay updated on SAP BW on HANA and embedded analytics advancements.
• Collaborate on internal knowledge sharing and mentoring of junior staff.
  
  

• Timely, accurate, and reliable reporting solutions aligned with business needs.
• Well-structured and efficient SAP BW data models and process chains.
• Data integration across SAP and non-SAP systems supporting enterprise reporting.

• SAP BW certification (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent (preferred)
  
  

• 8–10 years of total work experience
• At least 8 years of SAP BW experience, including configuration and data modelling
• Prior experience in the automotive or manufacturing industry (preferred)
• Hands-on experience in:
• SAP BW 7.5 / BW on HANA / BW/4HANA
• InfoObjects, DSO, InfoCubes, MultiProviders, CompositeProviders
• BEx Queries and integration with front-end reporting tools
• ETL and data extraction from SAP and non-SAP sources
• Performance tuning and data load optimisation
  

• Strong knowledge of BW architecture and data modelling
• Familiarity with SAP HANA modelling and embedded analytics
• Understanding of SAP modules (e.g., FI, SD, MM) from a data perspective
• ABAP for BW (advantageous)
• Familiarity with data governance and security practices
