Envusa is focused on delivering innovative and industry leading renewable energy solutions to private offtakers across Southern Africa and has a stated aim of developing a 3-5GW Renewable Energy generation portfolio by off the back of secured offtake.
The construction of the first MW of wind and solar energy is at an advanced stage and will start delivering electricity to offtakers in Q4 .
About the role :
The Health & Safety (H&S) Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and executing best-in-class H&S management systems across the organization.
This includes oversight of all projects at every stage of the project lifecycle, from initial planning through execution and long-term asset management.
The H&S Manager works closely with executive leadership, the Closing Team, and Project Execution Teams to strategically allocate and manage resources, ensuring milestones are met efficiently.
This role will also lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the ISO -certified H&S management system and ensure full compliance with South African regulatory requirements.
What You'll Do :
Strategic Leadership & Compliance :
Champion and instill a strong safety culture within ENVUSA at all organizational levels.
Represent the company in dealings with key regulatory bodies such as the Department of Mineral Resources, Department of Labour, and Department of Energy.
Serve as the senior company representative on H&S matters, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including international H&S forums.
Develop and implement companywide H&S strategic objectives aligned with business goals.
Advise executive leadership on H&S compliance risks and best practices.
Define and manage H&S budgets, ensuring cost-effective implementation of safety initiatives.
Support reporting and advise to the board on HSE performance, challenges, and strategic initiatives.
Health & Safety Management System :
Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the ISO -certified H&S management system.
Ensure company-wide adherence to South African H&S legislation and global best practices.
Develop and implement new policies and procedures as required by the evolving regulatory and operational landscape.
Conduct internal audits of office and site operations, identifying areas for improvement.
Track legislative changes and ensure timely compliance adaptations.
Oversee company H&S documentation, including maintaining accurate Health and Safety Files.
Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans for all company sites.
Lead major incident investigations and oversee root cause analyses.
Ensure all incidents, near misses, and statistical data are logged in the internal system, with action plans to address identified trends.
Oversee continuous improvement initiatives to minimize H&S risks.
Track and analyze non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are effectively communicated and implemented.
Contractor & Project H&S Oversight :
Evaluate and approve the H&S capabilities of potential contractors during the tendering process.
Assess contractor compliance with company H&S requirements, including budget adequacy.
Provide expert input during project planning to ensure occupational health, safety, and welfare are fully integrated.
Oversee and assess the performance of H&S service providers supporting company operations.
Ensure company-wide compliance with occupational health surveillance and regulatory requirements.
Oversee workplace first aid, fire safety, and health & wellbeing initiatives.
Identify H&S training needs and develop a company-wide training matrix in collaboration with Department Heads.
Drive initiatives that enhance employee wellbeing, including mental health and ergonomics programs.
Provide mentorship and professional development support to the administrative assistant responsible for H&S tasks.
Directly oversee all SPV HSE Managers, ensuring functional alignment with Envusa policies.
Manage and lead appointed Health and Safety Agents, overseeing all related H&S contracts.
Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement among team members.
What You'll Need :
Minimum 15 years of relevant H&S experience within Construction, Energy, or the Mining Sector.
At least 7 years in senior management roles with direct leadership responsibilities.
Minimum qualification equivalent to NQF Level 7 in HSE or a related field.
SAMTRAC or NEBOSH International General Certificate.
Experience leading large, complex projects in high-risk environments.
Proven experience in developing and implementing corporate-level H&S strategies.
Strong track record of engaging with regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders.
Strong leadership, capable of influencing and driving cultural change.
Advanced risk assessment and audit skills.
Incident investigation and root cause analysis expertise.

- Conduct H&S inspections and self-assessments to verify implementation of HSMS / IMS and compliance with country regulatory requirements regarding Health, Safety and the Environment.
- Provide H&S support to site and functions (e.g., Purchasing) during projects; (e.g., during site expansions, new construction, new equipment purchases, new processes, etc.)
- Conduct incident investigations for incidents occurring at the site
- Timely reporting of H&S relevant items including incidents, near misses, hazards and KPIs within the country using Crystal
- Implement SGS wide H&S activities at the site including Stellar, Safety Month, Quarterly Campaigns, Best Practice Sharing, SGS Rules for Life, Stop Work Authority, BBS, etc. to ensure compliance with OIMS and Country regulatory requirements.
- Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and take action to address the hazard.
- Cease work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and address the issue.
- Initiate formal improvement requests when deviations occur, improvements are identified, or nonconformities are found.

Construction Health and Safety Manager – Cape Town
A Health and Safety Company working predominately in the Construction Industry is looking for a Construction Health and Safety Manager to be based in Cape Town.
Requirements for the position :
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Minimum five years’ experience in the construction industry.
- Registered by South African Council for the Project & Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as an CHSM or in the process of registering.
- Understanding of applicable legislation.
- IT literate (Excell / Word / PDF).
- Must be able to work to a deadline.
- Must be able to works nights (where applicable).
Main Responsibilities (but not limited to these only) :
- Keep up to date and ensure compliance with applicable legal & other requirements,
- Investigate health & safety incidents and accidents, determine root cause, and implement corrective actions where required.
- Conducting safety inspections and develop risk assessments for new activities and machinery.
- Report on health & safety related activities to Safety Consultants management.
- Compile statistics.
- Supervise clients’ Health and Safety Representative.
- Conduct and lead health and safety meetings.
- Identify hazards and determine ways to reduce or eliminate risks in the workplace.
- investigate health-related complaints and cases of ill health,
- Listen and investigate health and safety related issues from employees and address them with management.
- Identify hazardous waste, correct safe use, and the correct disposal thereof.
- Promote safety initiatives.
- Inspect equipment regularly for safe use.
- Obey any reasonable and lawful instruction from line management.
