• Ensure all employees are inducted prior to be permitted to work on site. The induction will inform all employees pertaining to the hazards prevalent on site, and training in the use of a safety harness and the use of a fire extinguisher will be communicated to all employees.
• Review contractor method statement on an on-going basis identify and evaluate the risks to which employees may be exposed to, evaluate and analyse the risks identified and ensure that these risk assessments are then communicated to the workforce. Ensure at daily stand-up meetings, potential H&S Risks are discussed based on the project programme.
• Compile a fall protection plan that is to be implemented on every project. As conditions differ on each site the safety officer must be prepare the fall protection plan and ensure it is strictly implemented, amended and maintained as required. Further to this the safety officer will ensure that all employees are evaluated for their physical and psychological fitness to work at elevated heights.
• Responsible to prepare the site emergency evacuation plan (where the site or the site area is not part of an existing operational site with a plan) and ensure all supervisors and contractors are supplied with a copy of the plan. Where the site is part of an operation site, ensure all supervisors and contractors are inducted in the existing site emergency evacuation plan.
• Perform a high level of first aid treatment and evaluate injured persons if it is needed to send them for medical treatment at a hospital or clinic. Further, to this the employer’s report of an accident must be completed and must accompany the injured employee to hospital.
li>Conduct a thorough accident and incident investigation and come up with remedial actions to prevent future occurrence. In the event of a reportable injury safety officers must be able to enter into correspondence with the Department of Labour to inform them of the accident.
• Compile monthly H&S reports Head of Operations for ESG and Board reporting.
• Inspect the following high risk activities: Excavations, Scaffold, Form work and Support work, All lifting machinery and lifting tackle, Portable electrical tools and immediately bring to management’s attention any serious deviations that may have being noted.

Fitout and Civil Projects

Health and Safety oversight to ensure the appointed Health and Safety consultants and Contractors execute their responsibilities as per the law, best practices and in the interests of Teraco and Teraco/ contractor staff, during the construction and fitout phase of a project. • Experience: 2–5 years of proven experience as a SHE Officer (or similar role) within manufacturing, construction, automotive, or warehouse environments is essential.
• Risk Management: Prior experience in conducting Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) is essential.
• Auditing: Previous experience conducting internal audits is required.
• Transportation: Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable personal vehicle.
• Incident Analysis: Proficient in root cause analysis and incident investigation methodologies.
• Legislative Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, standards, and procedures.
• ISO Standards: Previous experience with ISO standards management systems. (ISO 45001; ISO 14001; ISO 900)

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE :

Responsible for supporting compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and standards. Oversees and monitors safety and environmental functions to ensure legal and operational compliance within the business unit. Ensures client, and performance standards are met while aligning operations with company policies, strategic goals, and continuous improvement initiatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Implement, maintain, and align the company's safety management systems with business objectives.
• Ensure legal compliance through regular audits, surveys, and risk assessments (HIRA).
• Develop and update risk assessments, Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), and Single Point Lessons.
• Schedule and document Health & Safety Committee meetings and representative inspections.
• Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with COIDA for IODs.
• Analyse incident data and trends to improve safety practices and reduce risks.
• Conduct regular SHE inspections and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
• Roll out and facilitate HSE initiatives, including safety inductions and technical guidance, to enhance awareness and proactively identify and mitigate risks on-site.
• Deliver safety training on policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Identify hazards related to machinery and equipment; enforce safety controls.
• Apply fire prevention and explosion control principles; ensure fire safety measures.
• Manage environmental risks, waste disposal, and workplace audits.
• Maintain and communicate the plant's emergency response plan, ensuring readiness through regular training and drills for emergency response teams.
• Operational Performance:
  - Delivering on client and internal continuous improvement requirements and driving Lean culture.
  - Customer dissatisfaction process analyses failures with regards to deliveries, client complaints, damages etc. to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  - Follow through on corrective actions and close the Corrective and Preventative Actions Process
