The Rock Engineer is an integral part of the extended Marketing Team that works to identify and understand our coal customer's mine support requirements and business needs and actively execute the design and delivery of innovative product development and improvement projects to further differentiate our product and service offering and deliver increasing value to our customers over time.

Advise / provide input to Area Managers / Engineers on mining methods and practices
Technical advice / guidance to business development teams, including conducting preliminary surveys and studies of mines to assess the feasibility of potentially new products.

- Understand and evaluate current mine support methods and practices (as part of extended Marketing team), and possible mine support technologies

Undertake professional development activities sufficient to maintain and extend competence
- Complete and maintain requisite professional registration

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 10/ Standard 8 Certificate.
EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to):
- Completion of a relevant, approved training programme.
- Advantageous: 6 months practical experience as a Competent Operator on Rock Breaker and Tip Attending
DUTIES (including but not limited to):
- To safely operate the Rock Breaker within a designated area and in accordance with set operating standards in order to achieve set production requirements.
- Operate the Rock Breaker to achieve production requirements. Continuously observe/monitor component performance against standards and procedures to identify any sub performance / non-conformance or deviations, and report to Supervisor and Control Room.
- Do pre-shift inspection of machines, machine parts, and/or components of the production line to ensure production flow according to standards within prescribed processes and procedures.
- Lock-out procedure to be followed when equipment is faulty and at end of the shift, including failure time recorded.
- Control tipping by LHDs to ensure tip is not overloaded and ensure safe operation of LHD machine in the tipping area using a robot system.
- Cleaning around tip area and tail pulley to ensure safe operation and to prevent any damage to the belt and fellow employees.

IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this "mine of the future". Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.
Suitable candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
- Honours Degree (Mining Engineering, Geology, or related discipline).
- Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate.
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical monitoring systems and rock engineering software.

- An MSc / MEng with specialty Rock Engineering will be advantageous.
