Organisational Background: Centre for Community Impact (CCI) formerly known as Johns Hopkins Education in South Africa (JHHESA), is a South African local Health and Social Behaviour Change and Communication organisation, registered as a local Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) in the Kingdom of Eswatini. CCI has a history of addressing Gender Based Violence (GBV), HIV, TB and STIs, and aims to be a human rights-based organisation that uses evidence to localise policies into impactful actions and to advance gender equality, health, and social development.
Position Summary: The HRG Legal Specialist should be an Admitted Attorney who provides national leadership, coordination and technical oversight for all Access to Justice activities within the HRG Programme at CCI. This role ensures legal literacy, case management, and redress mechanisms are implemented effectively across all SRs and Implementing Partner Organisations (IPOs). The HRG Legal Specialist provides technical leadership and oversight for all Access to Justice activities nationally, manages SR-level Legal and Advocacy Officers and paralegals, and liaises with justice sector stakeholders to strengthen referral pathways and systemic advocacy. The role contributes to harmonised, evidence-based legal interventions and national advocacy and reform agendas.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership and Oversight of Access to Justice: Lead design, planning, and execution of national Access to Justice activities; liaise with Global Fund Prime Recipients to standardise approaches; align legal interventions with human rights and gender integration efforts; translate survey findings into actionable strategies; serve as principal legal advisor to CCI’s HRG programme.
- Oversight of Legal and Advocacy Officers and Paralegals: Manage and mentor SR-level officers; oversee paralegals; develop and implement SOPs; conduct performance reviews.
- Legal Literacy and Capacity Development: Lead national legal literacy campaigns targeting sex workers and key populations; coordinate paralegal trainings; build capacity of SR and community-level actors; ensure materials align with SA law and international human rights principles.
- Case Management and Redress Mechanisms: Establish or strengthen national case management systems; ensure referrals to legal aid, psychosocial services, and health facilities; monitor patterns of violations to inform advocacy; compile quarterly summaries and analyses.
- Multi-Sectoral Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate dialogues with SAPS, prosecutors, magistrates, traditional leaders, and health service providers; engage with AIDS councils and human rights forums; develop policy briefs and talking points; represent CCI in technical groups and donor forums.
- Programme Planning, Monitoring, and Reporting: Integrate Access to Justice activities into work plans; define and track KPIs; contribute to donor reports; ensure cost-effectiveness within the budget.
- Policy Reform and Knowledge Generation: Use programme evidence to inform advocacy for decriminalisation and law reform; document best practices; contribute to research outputs and publications.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or Human Rights; Master’s in Human Rights or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in human rights law, legal aid, or access to justice programming within HIV, GBV, or key populations contexts.
- Experience in team leadership, supervising legal officers and paralegals.
- Strong understanding of South African legal frameworks on human rights, HIV, and GBV; familiarity with police, courts, commissions.
- Experience with donor-funded programmes (Global Fund, PEPFAR) and multi-sector collaborations.
- Excellent facilitation, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Your Opportunity
The
Senior Land Rights Developer: Special Projects
is responsible for supporting portfolio expansion while informing and implementing the strategy of land rights acquisition across G7's renewable energy pipeline. The role supports the Head of Land and Head of Development by identifying long-term opportunities, structuring land deals, and mentoring the Land Rights and Development teams to deliver best-in-class outcomes. The incumbent works on the front end of G7's renewable energy projects, ensuring alignment between land strategy, project development, and G7's growth objectives.
Main responsibilities include: identifying potential project sites and conducting land related feasibility studies to assess their viability; negotiating with landowners and stakeholders to secure land and rights necessary for project development; managing relationships with landowners and stakeholders throughout the development process; assisting in ensuring compliance with spatial law and regulations and obtaining necessary permits for land use; and providing input into project design and planning to ensure that land and property rights are adequately addressed. This role will also provide project acquisition support, as well as mentoring and knowledge transfer to the broader land team. Securing land rights is a complex, fluid, and often time-consuming process that carries significant risk, and this role is integral to ensuring the long-term success of G7's renewable energy projects.
Role-Specific Responsibilities
Strategy:
- Support the development and refinement of G7's land rights strategy, ensuring alignment with long-term portfolio expansion goals.
- Provide input to land scoring criteria in alignment with G7 strategy.
- Provide strategic insight to support feasibility modelling, acquisition decisions, and early-stage project screening.
- Identify and assess emerging market trends, regulatory shifts, and policy developments influencing land availability and project feasibility.
Land Rights Management & Project Development:
- Drive national land origination and portfolio expansion:
- Provide support to the Head of Project Development and Head of Land during due diligence and acquisition processes for new projects, ensuring commercial, legal, and technical alignment with G7's risk appetite.
- Provide support during project financial close.
- Lead strategic negotiations and relationship management with landowners, communities, and key stakeholders to secure and optimise long-term development rights.
- Lead the full land rights engagement and contracting process, from initial introduction meetings and site visits with landowners to presenting G7's development proposal, negotiating commercial terms, and finalising agreements. Oversee the preparation, review, and execution of all contracts, amendments, cessions, and registration documents, ensuring internal approvals are obtained. Manage title deed verification and handover procedures, maintaining compliance and continuity across the project lifecycle.

- Review permit tracker to ensure it is accurately captured.

KEY OUTPUTS

- Ensure the effective implementation of a sound Governance Framework for the legal services delivery operating system and oversee compliance with all relevant legislation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- LLB or other relevant South African legal qualification.
- A highly respected Legal Practitioner with 10 years’ experience in legal representation on land-related matters, five (5) of which should be in a senior position.
- An Admitted Legal Practitioner with the right of appearance in South African courts.
- Strong knowledge of legal representation on land-related matters’ core business administration processes and systems.
- Ability to lead, influence and persuade in the best interests of Legal Aid SA.
- Strong knowledge of land reform disciplines and how to implement and leverage these within a complex business environment, with particular skills at the Land Claims Court, High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court level. Litigation skills, legal drafting, legal research, legal practice ethical and professional compliance management.
- Experience in providing critical customer and stakeholder needs and insights in the implementation of land reform legal representation matters.
- Project and programme management experience is essential.

- Conceptualise, develop, design, improve and maintain the Centre online platforms.
- Update various platforms with new and updated content (including photographs, videos, graphics, blog posts, open access journals, book covers, publications, podcasts and infographics).
- Conceptualise, develop, design and maintain e-learning platforms, document databases, information products, publications, and online application forms for Centre programmes, projects and events.
- Work with various staff members on the development of massive open online courses (MOOCs).
- Manage and ensure quality control of all the Centre's social media channels (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn), including analysis of performance of social media through various metrics.
- Work with other Centre staff members on social media campaigns.
- Work with other Centre staff members on the annual advocacy campaign.
- Develop, organise and publicise online events in collaboration with various stakeholders.
- Work with various staff members on press statements, opinion pieces and media events.
- Liaison with national and international media.
- Provide IT support, and general communications and technology guidance to staff.
- Honours degree in communications/marketing/multimedia/public relations or related field;
- Five years’ total experience with some managerial experience in the following areas:
- Management of communications, marketing, media relations and publications;
- Website design and maintenance.
- Master’s degree in communications and/or a human rights-related field;
- Three years working experience in a field related to human rights;
- Advocacy and campaigns experience; experience in a university and/or NGO, particularly in an African context.

Compensation : The compensation for this contract role is ZAR 50,800-64,700 per month. YOUR OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPACTOversee and lead TAL’s experiential learning: Design, facilitate, and manage powerful learning experiences by developing experiential learning activities in line with TAL’s curriculum.
- Lead trainings, orientations, and learning and reflection activities with students.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to students through their experience. Identify the learning moments of their experience and support their personal development.
- Identify learning opportunities and develop relationships with local leaders/communities in Cape Town that support TAL’s learning outcomes and add value to students’ immersion in Cape Town.
- Manage TAL’s in-country budget.
Partnership management: as Tilting Futures’s lead on the ground, proactively develop relationships and maintain close contact and communication with local partners.
- Establish weekly touch points with the local team to foster collaboration, provide support, and proactively address any challenges, ensuring smooth program planning and implementation.
- Escalate administrative and/or operational issues to the Director of Global Programs that impact our relationship with the local partner or the sustainability of the program.

Manage partnerships: As Tilting Futures’s lead in South Africa, proactively develop relationships and maintain close contact and communication with local partners.
- Ensure smooth program planning and implementation with partners by fostering collaboration, providing support, and proactively addressing any challenges.
- Proactively cultivate relationships with partners who can help us achieve our program goals in South Africa.
- Escalate administrative and/or operational issues impacting the long-term sustainability of the program.
Oversee students’ program preparation: In collaboration with your team,develop, implement and maintain student onboarding systems that ensure:
- Students are prepared for their time in South Africa, through information sessions, written documentation, and timely responses to student and family inquiries.
- Visas, travel plans, and other important information are properly tracked.
- Proactive corrective action is taken with students who are not on track to participate in the program.
- Local partners receive timely information to allocate students’ apprenticeships and housing.
Lead Incident Management & Emergency Response: In collaboration with your team and specialized partners,support students’ socio-emotional health and learning, and provide effective response to health and safety incidents and emergencies.
- Deliver training to students in risk mitigation, and health and safety protocols, with support from the Global team.
- Lead the team managing health & safety incidents, coordinating with partners, team, and global staff in decision making, response and reporting, and leading response in escalated incidents.
- Provide student emotional support during any hospitalization or other major incidents.
- When on emergency duty, be available and remain within cell service at all times.
- Directly communicate with students’ families during escalated incidents, in coordination with the Global Programs Team.
Team Management: build and lead a high-performing team passionately committed to empowering youth and driving impactful programs.
- Hire, train, and retain a diverse, high-performing team.
- Supervise and develop staff and contractors through 1:1s, coaching, feedback, and evaluation.

The following are required:
- 5+ years of experience facilitating outdoor education, experiential learning and/or youth development programs for youth ages 17-25.
- Experience managing and developing staff from different backgrounds.
- Experience developing and delivering participatory training sessions and thematic seminars for different audiences e.g. youth, community stakeholders, non-profit organizations.
- Experience cultivating and managing program partnerships.
- Undergraduate degree (Bachelors or similar) in Education, Cultural Anthropology, Social Work, International Development, or other relevant field.
- Legally able to live and work in South Africa full time.
- Familiarity with South Africa’s social impact sector.
- Spoken and written fluency in English.

As Program Manager, you will help equip young people from around the world to tackle global issues through a one-of-a-kind hybrid immersive experiential learning program in Cape Town. By fostering strong partnerships and delivering a transformative student experience, you will play a key role in shaping the program’s success and impact.
A DAY IN THE LIFEDay-to-day activities will depend on the stage in the program cycle: planning season & immersion experience.
Planning season: daily activities during this stage include identifying and developing in-person learning activities that support the curriculum competencies and learning outcomes; prepare and roll out training for local partners; prepare orientation materials and resources for students’ onboarding to the program; provide feedback & input for future iterations of the program. In addition, this stage includes monitoring and tracking students’ pre-departure tasks (e.g. visa applications, travel plans, health and safety forms, housing & apprenticeship allocations).
Immersion experience: this is the most dynamic stage of the cycle while students are immersed in Cape Town. Day-to-day activities will include: managing communications with the local operational partner; leading reflection/learning activities for students; supporting and managing health and safety incidents; planning and executing activities that build community and a sense of belonging to Tilting Futures.
