Key Performance Areas

Identify new opportunities to increase brand awareness and submit motivations to the Marketing and Brand Manager.
  2. Promoting the brand image of SANBS by planning and implementing corporate SANBS promotional, brand, and product events and exhibitions to strengthen SANBS’ brand identity.

KPA 2: Maintain Brand Integrity for SANBS

  1. Facilitate the conducting of brand audits, identify trends, recommend corrective measures to enhance the brand and follow up and report on implementation.
  2. Act as a link between SANBS and external vendors to ensure brand integrity.
  3. Maintain and update the brand manual and distribute it to all stakeholders.
  4. Implement and maintain visual and perception branding according to parameters set in the branding manual and research results.
  5. Monitor all branded intents (e.g. signage, marketing posters and pamphlets) to ensure they are up to date in accordance with corporate branding – reporting on deviations so that corrective action can be taken.
  6. Coordinate the national marketing activities according to the annual marketing plan.

KPA 3: Support donor insights and research functions

  1. Assist and support with the development of brand and customer satisfaction surveys (Brand Tracker, Net Promoter score surveys) to assess the perceptions and needs of donors and understanding of the products and services and distribute intelligence gathered to relevant internal stakeholders.
  2. To execute the company brand strategy through implementing various brand programmes and events and understanding, translating and monitoring the brand policy.

This unit supports and promotes the use of advanced information technologies to enable better, faster and higher-impact research at UWC.

An exciting opportunity exists in the eResearch Unit for a suitably qualified candidate to the position of Specialist: eResearch Systems Administration. The appointed person will be responsible for managing High Performance Computing (HPC), cloud-integrated systems, and Research Data Management (RDM) solutions to deliver scalable, reliable computational resources. The role involves installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining Linux, Windows, and application systems that support research infrastructure. Key tasks include managing research software environments, monitoring system health, troubleshooting, and ensuring optimal performance and security. The Specialist: eResearch Systems Administration applies predictive analytics to optimize resource usage and maintain compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory standards. Additionally, the role provides technical consultation, user training, and documentation, while implementing improvements that align with the eResearch Office’s strategic objectives to support computational and data-driven research.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following key areas:

  • High Performance and Cloud-integrated Computing infrastructure management
  • Provisioning and lifecycle management of research software environments

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in systems administration with a proven track record managing Linux- and Windows-based servers, storage systems, and enterprise IT environments.
  • Practical experience with technologies such as SLURM, OpenStack, AWS, or Azure for research computing.
  • Practical experience with RDM platforms such as iRODS, YoDa, or equivalent, and familiarity with research data capture tools like REDCap. A strong understanding of FAIR data principles is essential.

Added Advantage:

  • A Master’s degree (NQF 9 level) in statistics, mathematics, computer science or other quantitative fields.

Position Overview

The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation is currently recruiting for four (4) temporary Research Assistants (Citation Reviewers and Data Extraction) for an 8-week appointment starting 1 September 2025.

The main purpose of these positions is to support a research project by reviewing pre-identified academic citations, downloading full papers, extracting relevant information, and collating this data into a structured Excel spreadsheet.

Working hours are 27–30 hours per week at R215 per hour, with some flexibility in terms of when hours are worked. The expectation is that each reviewer completes extraction for approximately 60 papers per week, with key deadlines throughout the contract period. Work can be performed either at DTHF Headquarters (Woodstock) or remotely from anywhere with stable internet access.

  • Honours or Masters-level qualification (can be ongoing)

  • Ability to access and download peer-reviewed academic papers from online databases and journals (costs of non-open access papers will be covered by the employer)

  • Access and download assigned academic papers based on pre-identified citations
  • Extract key information and data points from each paper according to project requirements
  • Record extracted data accurately into a supplied Excel spreadsheet template

Support feasibility activities around microarray patches (MAPs) for ART delivery. Ensure adherence to study protocol and SOPs. Participate in training and regular study meetings. Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join the Histology and Imaging Core in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at New York Medical College. The histotechnologist is responsible for day-to-day operations of the core providing routine histology and special staining, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and cryotomy services to the research community at NYMC and outside entities and to maintain the laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Perform histology procedures including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting of tissue samples
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and quality control standards
  • Prepare reagents and solutions for laboratory procedures
Qualifications

Education requirement: High School Diploma. An associate degree in histotechnology from a program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is optional

Licenses or certifications: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification's Histotechnician License (preferred)

Technical/computer skills: Proficient computer skills for data entry and result reporting

Prior experience: At least two years of experience working in a clinical or research laboratory setting

Other skills/requirements: Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics. Experience with using cryostat and preparing frozen sections. Effective communication skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.

Physical demands: Ability to stand and walk for prolong periods. Manual dexterity. Visual acuity.

Environmental demands: Exposure to hazards (chemicals, biologic materials) require use of personal protective equipment (gloves, mask, lab coat, etc). Some laboratory equipment (e.g., cryostat) pose certain hazards and should be handled with caution. Training and refreshers provided by the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department are required.
