WildComm Research Stations operate within the diverse savannah ecosystems of Limpopo, South Africa. Our team supports ecological research and long-term monitoring projects, providing critical data for conservation and wildlife management in the region.

Location: Private wildlife reserve, home to three of the Big Five

Internship Overview

This internship offers hands-on experience in wildlife research, focusing specifically on carnivore ecology. Interns will contribute to an ongoing study examining predator population trends, activity patterns, habitat use, and interspecies interactions across the reserve. This is a field-based and data-intensive position, suitable for students pursuing studies in ecology, conservation biology, or related disciplines.

Key Objectives

• Understand long-term population trends of key predator species on the reserve
• Investigate daily, lunar, and seasonal activity patterns
• Assess predator movement and habitat use, including interspecies dynamics

Responsibilities

• Support maintenance of a grid of cameras
• Tag and process images
• Identify patterned predators (e.g., Leopard, Civet, Genet) using our databases
• Extract metadata and maintain accurate records for analysis
• Under supervision, conduct regular walking transects along key roads and paths
• Record predator tracks, scat, and other signs using GPS

Requirements

• Comfortable working independently and in a team in field settings, under the guidance of field coordinators
• Moderate level of physical fitness, though most interns find their stamina improves over time (fieldwork is conducted on foot in rugged terrain and in challenging weather)
• Attention to detail and willingness to spend time on data management tasks
• Previous field or camera trap experience is not required

Flexible Dates and Duration

We accept researchers year-round. Project lengths are flexible depending on your goals, from short-term exploratory work to multi-year research initiatives.

Conservation Fee

A monthly fee is required to support:

• Conservation research infrastructure and data support
• Field logistics, equipment access, accommodation, and transport
• Protection and maintenance of the reserve ecosystem

• BCom/BSc in Stats, Marketing, or Management
• 5+ years in a similar role
• Strong data analysis and Excel skills
• Experience with Agile, Power BI (advantageous)
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills

The Senior Project Manager delivers quality market research projects in a way that consistently results in the highest level of client satisfaction. The Senior Project Manager is an organized, detail-oriented individual with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects from start to finish, in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The Senior Project Manager will work within a team of several other project managers reporting to one of their Client Experience Managers.

The shift for this position aligns with US business hours in Central Time, which equates to 3pm - 12am SAT from March to November and 4pm - 1am SAT from November to March.

• Proactively lead advanced market research projects with survey programming, sample delivery, and post-field deliverables from kick-off to successful close.
• Lead all aspects of client communication during project delivery including timelines, assigning responsibilities, updates, and issue resolution.
• Exemplify exceptional customer service by understanding and successfully delivering customer requests with proactive, effective communication.
• Lead and coordinate support from internal team members and third-party partners with clear specifications, timelines, and expectations.
• Immerse yourself in our clients’ businesses, understanding their challenges, objectives, how it is performing, and how they define success.
• Partner with leadership in driving continuous improvements to the company’s operating model including the design and deployment of new technologies, processes, and revised roles.

Required

• 3+ years of excellence in client-facing project management of advanced online sample projects.
• Functional knowledge of survey platforms, such as SurveyMonkey, Decipher, or Qualtrics.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including knowledge of advanced formulas, VLOOKUP, and pivot tables.
• Native-like fluency in business English, with a wide knowledge of various professional terms from different industries.
• A reliable at-home fibre internet connection with a minimum speed of 20 Mbps is a requirement of the position.

Preferred

• Knowledge of DIY sampling platforms highly preferred, and ample experience expected managing sample collection across a variety of panels and clients.
• Bachelor's degree.
