The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology

Job Summary



The National Electric Energy Testing, Research and Application Center (NEETRAC) is a not-for-profit Testing, Research & Application Center that serves the electric utility industry of North America. NEETRAC is looking for flexible, motivated and skilled engineering staff. This position is for an electrical engineer who will serve as a principal investigator and understudy in the medium and high voltage testing laboratories. Over time this engineer will be a principal investigator on increasingly large and complex projects for a wide variety of research and testing needs funded by our members. The job is physically located at the NEETRAC Laboratory Campus in Forest Park, GA.

A successful candidate will undertake a number of Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in multiple projects in parallel.
  2. Display a thorough understanding of electrical principles.
  3. Partner with NEETRAC customers to develop project proposals from their technical needs.
  4. Conduct robust and practical experimental programs.
  5. Undertake laboratory and field testing, in a hands-on role, both individually and as part of a team.
  6. Recommend project ideas / improvements to NEETRAC Members.
  7. Undertake the curation and analysis of utility performance / measurement data.
  8. Undertake travel for field work and technical interactions with members, as required.

Required Qualifications



  • A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree

The National Electric Energy Testing, Research and Applications Center (NEETRAC) is a 36-member consortium of electric utilities, manufacturers, and service providers that delivers testing, research, and application development services. These services help solve their technical problems while advancing electric energy technologies. NEETRAC's unique model is based on collaboration between utilities, manufacturers, and other industry entities to address critical challenges in the electric power industry at both transmission and distribution levels. Job Summary



The Director of NEETRAC is a pivotal leadership role responsible for guiding the strategic direction, operational management, and overall performance of the center. The Director will lead research initiatives, oversee testing and consulting services, foster industry partnerships, and ensure the effective dissemination of knowledge. This position requires a visionary leader with some technical background in electric energy systems, outstanding management skills, outstanding business development/sales skills, and a commitment to advancing the electric energy delivery industry. This position will be at the level of Senior or Principal Research Associate/Engineer/Scientist. This is a full-time on-site position; remote work is not expected on a regular basis.

Work Environment: On-site (This position requires physical presence at NEETRAC's Campus). Must live within driving distance of NEETRAC or relocate to start work (relocation assistance will be provided).

Travel: up to 50% (first year), then up to 30% afterwards


Responsibilities



Key Responsibilities: In collaboration with the NEETRAC's leadership team, the Director's responsibilities include:

1.Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the strategic vision and goals for NEETRAC in collaboration with members, the leadership team and the ECE school chair.
  • Identify and prioritize research areas and projects that align with member needs and NEETRAC's mission.
  • Drive innovation and thought leadership in electric energy technologies and systems.
  • Lead the development of the organization by maintaining existing members, recruiting new members, and identifying additional funding sources as appropriate.

2.Operational Management:

  • Lead a staff (direct reports) that currently includes Associate Directors, Director of Business Operations, Research Operations Program Manager, Engineering Supervisor, and Technician Supervisor,
  • Oversee operations of NEETRAC, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services to its members.
  • Manage financial resources, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting as well as equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with the University System of Georgia standards, regulations, and protocols.

3.Research and Development:

  • Oversee the development and execution of research and testing programs, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement with a focus on engineering practices.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for research projects needs, collaborating with team members, academic faculty, and other Georgia Tech entities as needed.

4.Industry Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members ensuring that their needs are met and promoting NEETRAC's membership added value.
  • Represent NEETRAC and its members at industry conferences, workshops, technical committees, and other relevant meetings.
  • Act as a spokesperson and advocate for NEETRAC's mission and objectives.

5.Team Leadership:

  • Support the recruitment, mentoring, and development of a high-performing team of researchers, engineers, and administrative staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and distinct work environment.
  • Promote professional development and continuous learning within the team.

6.Financial:

  • Set and meet NEETRAC revenue targets (P&L)
  • Manage cash flow.

Job Description

Our client, based in the Mandeni area in KZN, is seeking a Product Development Engineer with a BSc / BTech / BEng in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of experience in Product Design and Development.

Purpose :

Design, develop, and optimize systems and components to achieve company objectives.

Education :
  • BSc / BTech / BEng in Mechanical Engineering
  • CAD, SolidWorks experience is an advantage
  • High level of computer literacy
Experience required :
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Design and Development
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Design for manufacturing principles
  • Lean manufacturing principles
  • Cost-based approach
  • Application of known problem-solving techniques
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills (both written and verbal)
  • Experience with materials science and manufacturing processes
Main Duties :
  • Lead product development projects from start to finish for new and existing products
  • Optimize product cost and improve quality internally and with external suppliers
  • Communicate project status and technical updates to stakeholders and management
  • Evaluate new materials and suppliers
  • Manage the Engineering Change Process
  • Lead projects with multidisciplinary teams
  • Conduct FMEA studies and address issues
  • Develop test methods and perform product testing for approval
  • Perform and approve initial sample inspection reports (ISIR)
  • Conduct benchmarking studies
  • Oversee the thermodynamic test laboratory
  • Interpret thermodynamics test results and suggest improvements
  • Support production with product, process, quality, and equipment issues
  • Ensure product compliance with regulatory specifications
  • Support the Letter of Authority application process
  • Familiarity with standards like ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 is advantageous
  • Perform other product development and design functions as necessary
  • Work safely according to policies, standards, and laws
  • Identify potential hazards and safety issues
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment

We are looking for a Product Development Technologist in the flavour, ingredient and colour industry. It is essential that you have experience in flavour formulations within the sweet division.

Duties & Responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree – Food Technology/Food Science
  • 2-5 years’ experience with product development
  • Deadline driven
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Know how to put flavour/seasoning formulations together
Duties:
  • Formulate new flavours
  • Flavour modification on existing products
  • Develop and manipulate application formulation
  • Compounding of samples
  • Conducting sensory panels
  • Source for new ingredients and evaluate raw materials
  • Compiling of product specifications and process methods
