Job Purpose
The Renewable Energy Project Engineer oversees the planning, design, and execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects (50MW+), ensuring technical compliance, cost efficiency, and timely commissioning. Key Responsibilities
1. Project Development & Feasibility

• Conductsite suitability studies (solar irradiance/wind resource assessments usingPVsyst/WindPRO ).
• Designlayout optimization for solar tracker/wind turbine configurations.
• Preparetechnical specifications for EPC tenders (modules, inverters, BESS).

• Reviewsingle-line diagrams (SLDs), civil/structural designs , andgrid connection studies .
• ManageBOP (Balance of Plant) contractors for roads, foundations, and MV/HV infrastructure.
• OverseeSCADA and performance monitoring systems (Sungrow, SMA, Siemens).

• Ensure compliance withNRS 097-2-1 (Grid Code) andNERSA licensing requirements .
• Coordinatepower flow studies with Eskom/IPPs for grid connection agreements.
• Implementreactive power control andlow-voltage ride-through (LVRT) solutions.

• SupervisePV module installation/wind turbine erection per IEC 62446/IEC 61400.
• Leadenergization tests andperformance ratio (PR) validation .
• Resolvesnag lists for practical completion sign-off.

• Interface withlandowners, Eskom, DMRE, and environmental consultants .
• Report progress to investors/lenders (includingIndependent Engineer reviews ).

• BEng/BSc in Electrical/Mechanical/Renewable Energy Engineering .
• Professional Registration: ECSA PrEng/PrTechEng (preferred).
• Certifications:
  • PV GreenCard (SAPVIA) for solar safety.
  • GWO (Global Wind Organisation) certification for wind.

• Renewable Tech Expertise:

This leadership role combines engineering expertise with project management and team development responsibilities, while overseeing the Johannesburg branch.

The ideal candidate is both hands-on and strategic, someone who thrives on managing the technical and commercial aspects of renewable energy projects, mentoring a growing team, and ensuring excellence in project delivery from feasibility through to construction.

This role is based in Johannesburg, with regular travel to project sites and client locations across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development & Procurement

• Lead feasibility assessments, including site visits, technical due diligence, and yield/financial modelling.
• Develop tender documentation and oversee competitive procurement processes.
• Manage permitting and ensure compliance with South Africa''s regulatory frameworks.
• Evaluate proposals from EPCs/IPPs and support the selection of project partners.
• Engage with clients to define project goals and assess business cases.

• 10 years’ experience in the construction, engineering, and consulting industry relevant to electrical infrastructure sector. The 5 years can be combined between the three disciplines listed above with two years in a management position.

• Project Management: Accountable for ensuring projects are successfully completed within the envisaged constraints, including time, budget, resource targets and set out quality standards.
• Responsible for project delivery from inception through to contract close.
• Conducts regular reviews to ensure compliance with the design, status, budget, quality of work and schedule of contract progress.
• Provides technical guidance to subordinates on all projects.
• Accountable for all engineering and logistic and commissioning activities on projects.
• Conducts regular inspections on plant and equipment, including log sheet inspections to ensure compliance with required statutory regulations.
