Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible and accountable for the facilitation, guiding, directing, consolidation, monitoring and status reporting of SANBS Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) processes, initiatives, actions and implementation plans.

Key Performance Areas

KPA 1: Direct and facilitate, guide & drive SWP in SANBS

  1. Provide specialists input by facilitating and directing, and driving all SWP processes and activities to ensure consistent application with optimal return for the business.
  2. Manage the SWP process from start to finish and accept final responsibility of the organization-wide workforce plan.
  3. Develop and implement the SWP policy, governance and frameworks.
  4. Coordinate and schedule all SWP processes and activities ensuring alignment with the annual business cycle, leadership and reporting protocols.

KPA 2: Relationship Management

  1. Strategic partner to the Executives, Senior Managers & Managers within SANBS to support SWP.
  2. SWP stakeholder relationships management across the Departments and Divisions.
  3. Support and enable a common SWP understanding in SANBS.
  4. Ensure integration of all the functions in the SWP process and synergies and opportunities are fully exploited.
  5. Close working relationship with Learning & Development to ensure the training matrix is active and supports all the SWP processes and actions.

KPA 3: Management of the SWP Annual Scenario Planning processes

  1. Facilitate, direct and coordinate the annual SWP scenario planning process per department ensuring consistent application across SANBS.
  2. Custodian of SWP templates and tools, ensuring templates and tools are reviewed when required to support efficiencies and effectiveness.
  3. Ensure efficient scheduling and communication to support timely delivery.
  4. Consolidate all divisional scenario plans in the SANBS plan, clearly articulating time, deliverables, actions and accountability.

KPA 4: Monitoring of SWP action plans, implementation

  1. Proactively monitor the implementation and progress on all SWP action plans and identify potential opportunities to improve when required.
  2. Interpret, provide input and revise (if necessary) divisional action plans, if no longer serving the organization.

KPA 5: Reporting

  1. Consolidated SWP Reporting: Quarterly & Annually, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
  2. Develop and submit reports detailing the link to business performance and quantify impact.
  3. Develop reports associated with the 5-year strategic plan time horizon of the organization.

KPA 6: Up-to-date, accurate data and information management for SWP

  1. Implement and ensure all information utilized on the SWP system and/or database/s is up-to-date and accurate.
  2. Quality assurance checks and audits of information on a regular basis to ensure accuracy, relevancy and up-to-date information.
  3. Ensure a procedure to maintain all information sources utilized effectively.
  4. Develop appropriate and efficient systems to ensure accurate data management.
  5. Interpret the SANBS workforce data and provide recommendations to senior leadership.

KPA 7: SWP Stakeholder Management

  1. Support a consistent and common understanding of SWP across SANBS by developing communications for utilization by the Executives and Managers.
  2. Draft SWP messaging and communication to support SWP implementation.
  3. Drive change management to ensure strategic alignment with all relevant stakeholders in the process.

KPA 8: Risk Management

  1. Identify potential early warning SWP risks and propose mitigating actions for approval and implementation.
  2. Assist and support internal and external auditors by submitting correct data and reports.
  3. Ensure organization-wide adherence to SWP policy and procedures.
  4. Integrate SWP risks into the broader organizational strategic risk register.

KPA 9: Continuous Improvement and quality management

  1. Identify opportunities to improve SWP and business processes at appropriate intervals.
  2. Proactively identify opportunities and potential synergies across the business with skills planning and integration to talent mapping processes.
  3. Incorporate SWP opportunities into the SANBS quality management system.
  4. Track and monitor process improvements actions.

KPA 10: SWP Governance

  1. Ensure SWP policies and procedures are up-to-date and support the business needs and requirements whilst adhering to labour laws and legislation.
  2. Ensure SWP templates are reviewed timeously to support efficiencies and effectiveness of SWP operations.
  3. Ensure a common understanding of SWP processes and procedures across SANBS.

Required Competence And/Or Qualifications:

  • Preferably a B Degree in Engineering/alternatively Masters in Business Administration/ BCom Sales and Marketing Degree or assessed equivalent
  • Ten to fifteen years Business Development/Sales experience in the Industrial Chemicals and Energy Services/Projects.
  • Extensive knowledge B2B sales in utilities (Water/ Waste or Energy) for Industry. d) Computer literacy in the Google Workspace tools and experience with Cloud Computing, such as Docusign etc
  • Sound understanding of fundamental contractual issues, with business and commercial skills. Sound Financial and Business acumen
  • Strong Financial acumen with some training on P&Ls and Project Profitability assessments.

Role Summary

UPL South Africa is a leading company in the agricultural inputs industry. We have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Marketing and Technical Advisor on Fungicide and Insecticide in the Western Cape region of South Africa. The main focus of this role will be to drive and execute the business support initiatives to contribute in reaching the regions allocated financial targets with specific focus on Fungicide and Insecticide products. Secondary focus of this role will be to supply technical advice and service to Distributor and Distributor representatives

Be responsible to drive the strategic agenda of UPL locally as well as Globally in accordance with Marketing strategic direction. Coordinate and plan strategy for allocated region in conjunction with regional UPL Business manager.

Primary - Role Responsibilities

Distributor and Distributor representative marketing and technical support.

  • Service the Distributor and Distributor representatives by create marketing opportunities with each, to drive marketing and sales, in conjunction with the UPL regional Business Manager, to achieve allocated financial targets.
  • Drive business support initiatives to reach sales budget in the region and offer technical support on all UPL Fungicide and Insecticide products as well as other Strategic Products.
  • Contribute to training programs and product presentations of UPL sales team, distributors, and agents.
  • Contribute to demonstration trials plan definition & drive trial implementation in the region.
  • Execute demonstrations, collect, and present data from demonstration trials.
  • Contribute to key account approach development- customer data base with key promotion activities.
  • Commercial trial work on all new Fungicide and Insecticide remedies.
  • Develop, maintain, and advance digital crop monitoring systems and programs within company strategic plan. (Satellite, drones, weather stations etcetera)
  • Contribute to agent service & technical support on all Fungicide and Insecticide products.
  • Utilise relevant commercial and /or demonstration trial locations as marketing/demo days.
  • All the above in full coordination with the Regional Business Manager

Secondary - Business development and Portfolio Management

  • Up to date knowledge of the markets and agricultural products relating to Fungicide and Insecticide range.
  • Contribute to Fungicide and Insecticide portfolio positioning strategy & continuous improvement in terms of value proposition statement.
  • Contribute to product training presentations & promotion materials.
  • Contribute to product launch planning & drive execution in region.
  • Contribute to future Fungicide and Insecticide portfolio strategy by identifying & suggesting new market opportunities
  • Contribute to product pricing strategy including competitive analysis & differentiation in the region.
  • Recommendation on continuous improvement of current labels.
  • Identifying new uses for current products.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • 5 years’ experience in crop protection industry in marketing & business development positions
  • BSc Degree or Diploma in Agriculture. BASOS and AVCASA certified.
  • If not BASOS and AVCASA certified, will be required to successfully obtain within first year of service.
  • Good business/market intelligence and excellent technical skill regarding marketing tools and strategies.
  • Broad knowledge of agrochemical & Ag input business with good industry credibility and value chain expertise
  • Broad knowledge of crop cultivating and production methods.
  • Good technical understanding of bio stimulant and innovative nutrition and key competitors in the market.
  • General knowledge of the market and regulatory processes.
  • Financial acumen with ability to understand basic financial principles.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Marketing and Technical Advisor on Fungicide and Insecticide in the Western Cape region of South Africa. The main focus of this role is to drive and execute business support initiatives to contribute to reaching the region's financial targets, with a specific focus on Fungicide and Insecticide products. The role also involves providing technical advice and service to Distributors and their representatives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving UPL's strategic agenda locally and globally in accordance with marketing strategic direction. They will coordinate and plan strategies for the region in conjunction with the regional UPL Business Manager.

Primary - Role Responsibilities
  • Support Distributors and their representatives through marketing opportunities to drive sales and achieve financial targets.
  • Implement business support initiatives and provide technical support on UPL Fungicide and Insecticide products.
  • Contribute to training programs and product presentations for the sales team, distributors, and agents.
  • Plan and execute demonstration trials, collect and present data.
  • Develop key account strategies and promotional activities.
  • Conduct commercial trials on new Fungicide and Insecticide remedies.
  • Develop and maintain digital crop monitoring systems.
  • Support agent technical and service support activities.
  • Utilize demonstration locations for marketing and demo days.
Secondary - Business Development and Portfolio Management
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the market and products related to Fungicide and Insecticide.
  • Contribute to product positioning, training, promotion, and launch strategies.
  • Identify new market opportunities and recommend improvements to labels and uses.
  • Create marketing content for social media, brochures, and digital platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Coordinate with internal teams on product launches, training, and marketing activities.
  • Engage with external stakeholders such as farmers, researchers, and industry specialists.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years in crop protection marketing and business development.
  • BSc Degree or Diploma in Agriculture; BASOS and AVCASA certification preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of crop protection products and market intelligence.
  • Good industry credibility and understanding of regulatory processes.
